Flying Leap was the second of three wineries that my friends and I visited last week. It was a hit! We walked in and were greeted immediately! We were offered to taste 6 wines. We could either pay a lower price if we already had a glass or a slightly higher price if we needed a glass. We already had glasses from the previous winery we visited, but all of us wanted to collect the glasses, so we got new ones. The owners/employees were a ton of fun and kept us laughing throughout the tasting. The tasting room wasn't overly crowded, but still fairly full. Despite that, they always remembered which wine we were on in the tasting and which one they had to pour next. There's limited seating in the tasting room and most of us were standing around the tasting bar. They have complimentary oyster crackers and dark chocolate chunks available to anyone doing a tasting. They also sell various seasoning mixes which you can sprinkle on the oyster crackers to taste. Note: Their bathroom has a shower in it. CAUTION - you pay for your tiny, minute samples of wine. The wine is nasty. The guy running this place was talked into by his buddies. He was dressed like he was just working in the field. The wine was harsh and very, very bitter - yes, all 6 with the White being the worst. A rip of $ 12 to drink samples of crappy wine. They will not Warn you that the samples cost money ........ This was the absolute most AMAZING wedding venue. Mark Beres and the rest of the crew at Flying Leap went above and beyond the contract to accommodate our wedding. The day was absolutely perfect and the view was breathtaking! I would recommend Flying Leap to anyone searching for the perfect wedding spot! Mark and everyone at the venue did so much for us and it's hard to write a review that would do them justice! My daughter, the bride, had an amazing day!! filled with love, laughter, tears and a perfect view! Couldn't have done it without Mark and his willingness to go out of his way! Terrific tasting room! We came in a group for my birthday and we has such a nice time. Rolf seated us at a table and brought the tastings to us. We were greeted right away and made to feel very welcome. Rolf came by from time to time to fill us up and share his insights on the wine- he was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. The wines were all really nice- we were super happy with the tastings which cost 6$ for the flight (we brought our own glasses). My personal favorite was the 2011 Granacio ($29 bottle), which was so very nice! Everyone at the table also enjoyed the 2011 Head Over Heels ($30.85 bottle)- rave reviews all around. This tasting room was a different experience compare to the one we had while in Wilcox, more laid back and casual (they even had some lounge mood music piped through the room, very chill vibe)- I was really happy to have such a great time here with my friends. This vineyard also has a tasting room in Wilcox, and they plan to open another soon in St. Phillip's Plaza in Tucson! woo hoo , can't wait to try this in Tucson! read more

Fantastic!!! These guys are doing an amazing job of leading Arizona wines into the spotlight. The craftsmanship and quality are off the charts - literally...military background = excellent organizational and analytical skills, resulting in a world-class business making world class wines. They grow some varietals I have never heard of (and I've been a wineaux for 20+ years) and their wines and spirits knock it out of the park. Beautiful setting too. If you can't make it to Elgin, at least visit the tasting room at St. Philips. Well worth the trip! read more

I bought a groupon for wine tasting for 4. I was a little nervous given the only review on here is negative, but I was pleasantly surprised. The tasting room is pretty sparse, but from what I understood, they are still getting themselves settled in to the place. The guy who poured our tastings was friendly and great at answer our questions. The tasting consisted of two whites and four reds. Only two of the wines were made with their grapes because it takes a few years for a winery to yield a useable grape crop (an interesting little tidbit our knowledgeable pourer taught us). I prefer reds to whites but I really liked the two whites here. They were crisp and dry- the perfect summer wine! The reds were all really good. The Zin and Cab were made with their grapes. If these were a signal of things to come, I definitely can't wait to try their future wines made with their grapes! But overall, the Grenache was the best I ended up buying a bottle to take home. After the tasting, we walked through the vineyards in the back. We didn't venture too far because the ground was soaked and muddy from the rain. Still, the view as great and the backdrop made for some good pictures. I would definitely love to come back when it's not raining! The normal price for tastings here is $6 or $10 if you want the glass. If you are wine tasting in Sonoita, Flying Leap is definitely worth a stop! read more

Covid country! Spent today (black Friday) heading south from Tucson to grab some wine at respectable distance and protocol. After happily safe trips to deep sky and the meading room we hit flying want to grab some bottles to head home with. Walked into the enclosed distillery tasting room to ask where bottled wine to go could be bought and found all staff without masks and patrons a foot away across the bar top. We walked out and walked next door to find wine for sale from two who put masks on only after we arrived. Can't knock the wine or spirit as they are a southern AZ gem. That said should they see my money again it'll be through a liquor store here in Tucson where safety of both patron and staff addressed competently. read more

We come down to southern AZ for the camping in the San Rafael Grasslands, and Elgin makes for a great side trip. We knew of Flying Leaps wines from a Tucson tasting room visit a few years ago, and once again were impressed. The bonus is the distillery they are adding. Love love love their wine! Flying Leap feels like the closest you'll get to upscale Napa while in Elgin. But don't let that fool you, these folks are about as welcoming as they come. They have this terrible system of giving you one wine at a time so you can't sit and enjoy your wines- you have to constantly get up and bring your glass back to the counter as opposed to them just giving you a flight to try. It makes for a unrelaxing atmosphere. The person behind the counter was also a bit pushy. read more

Weird vibe as soon as we walked in to try their spirits, employee not wearing mask and allowed a cat to be all over the counter where the spirits would be served. We went to the tasting room in Bisbee and were served by a girl named Savannah who was really sarcastic and rude to us when we walked in. She eventually warmed up a bit and said she'd had a busy day and we felt bad for her- we ended up buying a couple bottles of wine. We will never go back here after we found out that she charged us $32 for wine that actually costs $14.95. read more

We enjoyed our tasting at the distillery and bought several items; however, the constant reminders from Karen to tip if we enjoyed our experience was off putting. We always tip but not until we are ready to leave. At the end, we felt that because she had not seen us tip her yet, her demeanor changed towards unfriendly. That was very disappointing. read more

Came here with my girlfriend for the spirit tasting. We had to purchase a spirit glass for $6 (the other wineries let you use your current glass, but I get that it's spirits and not wine, just be aware of that). At this point it is almost $20 for the tasting and that's fine, however every other pour was an additional charge of $2. There had to be at least 5 of those, which is annoying because then you are just sitting there waiting if you don't want to end up spending over $30 for ONE tasting. It took forever and we wanted to get going to other places. On top of that, it took place indoors, in an enclosed heavily air conditioned space with the staff not wearing masks. Not really the environment I care to be in for an extended amount of time during a pandemic. The weather was perfect and there was an empty outdoor bar, so I have no idea why they don't do the tasting out there. On a good note, the lavender brandy is excellent. I would recommend just getting a glass of that and skipping the tasting. read more

I have been a full cliff dive member for several years and we enjoy their wines. However, I went to their Elgin tasting room this afternoon at 3:45 and was told they were not doing tastings because they were about to close at 4. She grudgingly poured us a glass- we are members- but kept looking at her watch and came over to remind us that they close at 4. We ended up finishing our glass in the parking lot so she could close. We didn't buy any bottles. There are many great wineries in this area who treat visitors with much more respect. I will cancel my flying leap membership and continue to give Lightning Ridge, Wilhelm, Callaghan's , Rune, Rancho Rossa, Dos Cabezas, Deep Sky, and a newer winery- Los Milics and the many other wineries, our business. Flying leap is more like a big California winery now and they won't miss our business anyway. We enjoy the small family vineyards VERY much. The lady with purple was training a new person for another tasting room- Tucson?- I hope he appreciates the customers more than she does. We loved Janie, who used to work at the Tucson tasting room. No one has been as nice and knowledgeable as she was. read more

So here's what's up...this was formerly Canelo Hills Winery and Vineyard. Tasting was $6 for 6 varieties, but I don't feel that the six were among their nicer wines. Add to that, the youthful appearance of our small group-I feel we were put on the back burner for more "seasoned appearing customers" and the party of inebriated women. Shame...I bought a case elsewhere. I won't return. read more

My first visit to Flying Leap's Distillery was last Nov and while it was enjoyable (and the apple brandy was delicious) I had hoped for a little bit more. My visit was on a weekday though. I had my second visit this last weekend and it was full of people! Loved to see that! The best part was the tasting room 'bartender' Karen! She was hilarious and entertaining for the type of crowd that was visiting that day. I wish the apple brandy was still available but this time I took home bottles of the Lavender Brandy which paired very well with a roasted garlic chicken dish and the Aged Brandy which I found to be similar to a sipping Bourbon. I will be back any time I drive south to Tombstone! read more

I can't believe that this place only has three stars! We visited their Elgin tasting room last weekend and had a fabulous time. We were a party of four with my husband being the designated driver and my mom, mother-in-law, and I tasting wine. We brought our own glasses from home so it was only $6 to taste. They were pretty busy when we walked in but they still made sure we got some personalized attention. We ended up sitting at the large community table to get out of the way of the big group congregating at the bar but the gentleman serving the wine came over and poured our samples for us where we were seated. Even though it's a pretty casual setting... basically a warehouse... it was still pretty cool looking with all the wine barrels around. And I did appreciate all the seating and I thought it was pretty cool that they had lots of wine magazines and coffee table books around that you could flip thru. It felt like somewhere you would want to hang out for a while. I really enjoyed their Albarino which was crisp but still well rounded. Apparently this one is left over from when they were Canelo Hills winery. It was $19 and well worth it. I also purchased a bottle of their 2011 Grenache, an absolutely perfect red, which everyone agreed was their favorite. That one was priced a little higher than the others at $28 but I am looking forward to enjoying it at home. read more

If they had more wines to choose from I would give 5 stars, but was one of our favorites with our last visit. Previously owned by another family, for which they use some of the previous vines and have added partial vines from Spain for a majority of the wines. They also had a pure Petit Verdot which is rare and was very good. The Tempranillo was the best there, and the company was also very laid back and fun. They also sell rubs, sauces, and accompaniments to go with the wines. Owned by 3 former pilots and looking to be a hit with locals and people from around the world! Some friends and I went to a total of 4 wineries to try their tasting menus. Flying Leap was the first stop. It was pretty good. There were 6 different wines on the list and we got a small discount for having our own glasses (although it was a little pricier than other places we tried). They even had an off-the-menu wine that they included a sample of! I appreciated how one of the workers explained how the company was started and the meaning behind the logo, and also took the time to describe the flavors in each wine. They had crackers and chocolate also, which was a nice touch. Overall, great experience! read more

The service here was great. Sadly I can't remember the name of the man providing our tasting but he was very friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. They give you a little bit of chocolate with the wine if you like too. The most high class wine tasting place in the area. This comes of course with a upscale price on bottles. The wine glasses here were wide bottomed and high quality which I would recommend purchasing. Excellent red wines. Period. Especially fond of their Tempranillo and Grenache. Please don't take my word for it, let your taste buds decide. Mark is very knowledgeable and took extra time to describe how each varietal is crafted and possible food pairings. I was also impressed to learn that they were awarded two metals in a recent Arizona wine competition, including a "Judge's Favorite" award, despite entering just two varieties. Noteworthy accomplishment, given this is a relatively new winery (formerly Canelo Hills). Liked (and took pictures of) the "tree" made from wine bottles out front of their Elgin tasting room. read more
