Ok, so we came to Sonoita to try some new winery tasting rooms. As soon as we got to town we made a couple stops and asked the locals where to come. They all said the same place. The wine here is excellent. The server was awesome. It was pretty busy and she kept everyone's glasses full. She had the World Cup on and there was a lot of camaraderie over the game. People were having a great time and you could tell she enjoys working here which always makes a huge difference! We will definitely be back. read more

We did not get any food. My friend and I got to the winery around 11:45 on a Saturday in January. The place was almost empty but others slowly trickled in. The balcony was expansive and had great views. You can do a glass of any wine for $10 or you can pick 4 from the list and do a tasting flight for $20 with their glass or $15 if you bring your own glass. I can't say enough positive things about this vineyard. The lady running the tasting room was a wonderful individual with a cool motorcycle! The wines produced by the vineyard are smooth and very delectable. I wish I had bought more of their MeCaSah wine. It is a red that literally pulls up a comfy chair in front a fireplace and makes itself at home on your tongue. It is so delish it's hard to not drink a whole bottle in one sitting by yourself! We enjoyed our visit to this beautiful winery, just on the edge of Sonoita area's "wine country." The staff here was so warm, welcoming, and patient. We personally found the wines to be less suited for our particular tastes, as we prefer more tannins and less of a heavy-fruit body, but we were so well-cared for by the staff here that we left happy and very satisfied! read more

We again did tastings of five red wines. The Buddy D's was sour and very unpleasant. The MeCaSa was still tasty, but the others were not pleasing at all. The server was completely uninvolved. She did not explain any of the pours and she never asked if we liked any of the five wines we sampled. We enjoyed the ample outdoor seating, but some areas were dirty, especially some of the cushions. And the overwhelming amount of flies also was a distraction. read more

This is my second visit to Sonoita Vineyards and again, it was a wonderful time. We used a Groupon where we had two wine tastings of five pours each, two wine glasses to take home, and $5 towards the purchase of any bottle of wine we wanted. They have a good variety of sweet, dry, and special wines. We liked that we were able to pick and choose what best fit the tastes of everyone in our party. The staff was very friendly and informative. We were able to sit outdoors and check out the beautiful view from the balcony (be sure not to lock yourselves out on the balcony... Easy to accidentally hit the lock on the door; yes, we know from personal experience!!) The winery is off the beaten path, but we are glad we took the time to find it and enjoy a nice afternoon there. We really like several of the wines they make and were happy to bring a bottle home to enjoy later. read more

We stopped in here while touring the area. We met Lori the winemaker. Lori was Super nice and knowledgeable. We tasted the wines and liked them more than other wineries we toured. Also her tasting pricing was normal not outrageous like we found at a nearby winery. Our favorite wine here was the MeCaSah. Lori also carries artisan cheeses from Pennsylvania. I have been in wineries all over the USA and the EU. I can honestly say this one stands out. Lori is the founder's GD. She has wine in her blood and has a diploma on the wall from UC Davis that confirms she's the real deal. No problem pulling out your own glasses and snacks. No problem with the pour. The first thing you should know is, I'm an avid red wine fan. The drier the better. I tested my baby wine chops on various Cabernets and never looked back. The second thing is, Arizona is not famed for reds. Having to do with the climes vs. the grapes, and lots of technical nerdy stuff I'm nowhere near qualified to school you on. Point is, in years recent, I've expanded my vino horizons, and have begun to slowly, but surely, appreciate the whiter side of the vine. And I could not have arrived at a better place to do so. The heavenly view here is only surpassed by the heavenly nectar! Seriously, try the Angel Wings. And the Sparkles Peach. And the Arizona Sunset. Sonoita Vineyards is a gorgeous place to visit... and they have plenty of wine to sample (or buy)! So it's a win-win! Driving up, the building has a castle-like feel to it located in the middle of nowhere... and as you get closer, you can truly appreciate the beauty that was put into designing and constructing everything. This is one of the larger vineyards in the area, and they certainly have some amazing views of the country side. We actually skipped the wine tasting here, the gals I came with were interested in some shirts they sell and some locals foods that they liked when they came here previously. We did all opt for a glass of champagne with a hibiscus flower, which was delicious but for $9 a glass a lil steep for the very small serving that we had received. And the gentlemen behind the counter seemed a little snooty and not very welcoming :/ I would come in here again though and give them another shot, and hopefully be able to update my review with being provided better service. Sonoita Vineyards is also one of those 'must visit' places in Sonoita. Located a bit south it sits in gorgeous rolling hills. The tasting room is huge and has an area outside with picnic tables (no problem bringing your own cheese or lunch). In starting out your tasting they give you a sample then move your tasting to either 'light & sweet' or 'bold & dry' and finish up with a specialty wine. Wines were great and the processing area was open to take a peak at how it is made. Great gift shop has ton's of unique wine type gifts for just about anyone (including babies). This place was nice. Staff was friendly and helpful. We did wine tasting and had some crackers/cheese/meat. The wine glasses are huge! The wine selection was good. I think out of the few I picked I only loved maybe one or two. I picked mostly sweet wines since those are my favorite. We had a good time and left with some wine glasses and a bottle of Tigers Treat. The bottle was about $60 which is a little pricey but it was worth it. Tigers treat is a wine with brandy so the alcohol content is really high but when you drink it you wouldn't even know because it just taste like a really flavorful wine. read more

Service: The wine specialist here are very personable and knowledgeable. This past weekend we had a group of 8 and we were treated as if we were the only ones there. Between the 8 of us there were 3 different palates for the wine tasting, she handled us with ease and thoroughly explained what we were drinking and answered all of our questions. Atmosphere: Beautiful rolling hills with vineyards on a portion of them. Inside has a bar downstairs and a bar upstairs. The upstairs also has a deck to take in the view. Wine with a view!! I absolutely love this place. Been here twice now and I must say they are some of the friendliest and happiest people around. On top of it all, their wine is delicious! While this place is a little farther from the rest of the wineries, it is one of the absolute best--well worth the extra few minutes in the car. Try their mulled wine on a cold day or just the traditional wine tasting. You can't go wrong here. It is also the oldest winery in Arizona and the tradition of excellence can't be mistaken. I love Sonoita Vineyards, and it's always my first stop when visiting the area. Monica is the bomb.com, and if she is working, you MUST see her! She is so fun, and she's an excellent salesperson. This winery, more so than others in the area, is great for ALL wine drinkers, regardless if you like white or red, sweet or dry. I've brought multiple people here, all with very different palettes, and everyone is able to find a wine (or a few) that they like. They have two different tasting menus depending on your preference. I am a medium- to full-bodied red drinker generally, and I really enjoy some of their blends. Even I enjoyed some of their whites. The Sparkles Brut is amazing, and normally I wouldn't go for something like that. They add in a hibiscus flower with the Brut that adds a little sweetness and is something super unique. I usually will take home a bottle of that. They also have a comfortable patio for hanging out and a shop with a lot of fun items! read more

On one of my visits, I spoke to the server, who was very friendly and knowledgeable about not only this winery, which I believe was one of the first ones in AZ, but the history of how wineries were started in Arizona. Absolutely love this place! I took my mom here on my most recent visit. She loved it as much as I do. This winery is a bit out of the way - but I think they make the most wines and have the best selection of sweet vs. dry. I have to admit that I love the Peach Sparkles wine that they make here - I can easily have a bottle to myself! They also take the time to explain the wine making process and the different flavors of their wines - unlike some of the other vineyards that just pour you a glass and walk away. They are very involved in the tasting and making process. You can tell they really love what they do. They also have a 'gift shop' in the tasting room. Lots of wine accessories and t-shirts which are nice for visitors in town. read more
