From the moment my daughter attended a trial class with Master Vinson, we knew we had discovered something wonderful. She looks forward to each class and always participates with great enthusiasm and energy. The classes are a great workout and lots of fun, thanks to the fantastic instructors. All of the instructors are patient and kind, and work extremely hard with each belt level, encouraging each student to work hard and continue to improve in body, mind and spirit. Each month there is a new life lesson that is discussed at the end of each class. The lessons are always positive, encouraging thoughtfulness, respect, and community-minded thinking (and they practice what they preach, with food drives and fundraising efforts that constantly give back)! Flying V also offers parents free classes because they believe that learning and practicing tae kwon do together will strengthen the bond between parent and child while also encouraging fitness for life. I take the class and it is great fun, though humbling at times when witnessing these young black belts kick and punch! My younger daughter started classes this week - all that is left is for my baby to be old enough and it will be a family affair! I am so happy I found this school! I have my 7 year old special needs son in class and it helps in similar ways as occupational therapy does. I also have my 3 year old son in a toddler class. They both are learning great values: Respect, discipline, commitment, courtesy, honor, self confidence, just to name a few. Master Vinson teaches the kids that Tae Kwon Do students are friendly and kind and how to use all the Tae kwon Do values in everyday life. I myself am in class and I have lost 13 lbs and it is a wonderful stress reliever and helps to teach me patience. Master Vinson and Instructor Andre and Instructor Brian are unbelievably PATIENT they have WONDERFUL teaching techniques for all levels of students! You can tell they have a genuine love for kids! This school is the best place you can send your children (or yourself) to. Actually, I believe this is the best thing I have done for my kids. The instructors and Master Vinson are fun, positive, strict, engaging. Their emphasis on positive behaviour, discipline, self confidence and respect is absolutely priceless. Not only do you send your kids there to learn TaeKwondo, you will get for the same price the positive values, the fun and a good workout! What makes this place extra special is how engaged the instructors are: they have fun doing their job and are really caring about our kids. They are flexible in the schedules, price is a little less than similar schools. They also offer nice side activities: movie nights, potluck dinners, parties, birthday parties as well as more serious activities: tournaments, training for national competitions, seminars, etc. Parents can watch the class or hang out at the many coffee places next door... or even attend the class. I heard of Master Vincent and the Flying V Athletic center from another parent who was having difficulty with their teenage son. Basic concentration skills, discipline and respect for authority for our sons just did not come easy. As parents we did not want to lose them to the streets. We heard of Flying V Athletic Center and how they work with kids and teens to help them with confidence and discipline. It was true, it was all true the great things about this place. All of the instructors really seem to care about the children and they teach them EVERY PRACTICE how to respect and obey parents and do nice things for friends and family. Not sure what the other 1-star reviewer was talking about, but Flying V specializes in character-building, healthy body and mind. Master Vincent and all of the instructors are superb! The instructors are a variety of ages and consistently provide positive-reinforcement. As with most martial arts studios, the student population depends on the location where you take classes. FFC has a younger class age, and the main studio has a variety from 5-50+ year old students. The best part about Flying V is that they are great people in a very convenient location (111 N. Oak Park, Ave, Oak Park, IL). They have classes at other locations as well (FFC in Oak Park on Lake) and the price is very reasonable. Again, a 5-star establishment !!! read more

I have had the most wonderful experiences with Flying V and Master Vinson. At my first class, I felt comfortable and welcome and encouraged to try something that was very new to me. I left feeling like I'd had an amazing workout and that I wanted to continue learning taekwondo. I've also had the opportunity to observe Master Vinson and the other instructors working with their young students and I was so impressed at how well the kids listen and respond to their instructors, how much fun they all seem to be having and most importantly how much they really like Master Vinson. I was interested in signing up my daughter for an activity after school. I am so glad I found this taekwondo school. My daughter is rather shy and in the few months she has been here, the program has really helped her come out of her shell. The master and his instructors are super patient with all the students. The school has the best interest at heart for all their students. They really make it a point to develop the whole student in more than just the physical part. I really like that they encourage respect for parents-nice bonus for me! I also really like that the school has very much a family-feel to it. We love Flying V. My 5 year-old has been taking taekwondo here for almost a year. The instructors are so great with the kids. They go out of their way to engage the kids, make them feel comfortable, and have fun. We also had my son's birthday party here. It was a great party. We got the food and cake and they did all the rest. We had over 20 kids because we got so many RSVPs yes and everyone had fun. I highly recommend it (and definitely get the boards to break for the guests!). Such wonderful, caring people who make the kids and families feel like family. And doesn't hurt that getting tapes and badges is a great incentive for my not always motivated 5 year-old. read more

Flying V is great place for kids and adults to come and learn taekwondo. Master Vinson and the instructors love what they do and you can see it when they teach. The kids and adults learn discipline, respect, and confidence, to name a few out of many. One of the things I really like is that the students bow to their parents to show that they love them and say thank you for bringing them to taekwondo. The school does a lot to be involved in the community, with food drives, walking in the Memorial Day and Independence Day Parade, and by donating money back to after school programs. I have practiced martial arts for a few years now and I wanted my nephew to start up something similar. I went for an observation at Flying V to see what they had to offer and needless to say I signed my nephew up immediately. He loves his instructors as they inspire their students with great positive reinforcement. He always tells me what he learned and how his masters tell him how great he is doing. I can't say enough about the wonderful teachers at Flying V. Their patience and interaction with my son, as well as all the students, exceeds all expectations. My son is 3.5 years old and has a large personality. The teachers do a wonderful job helping channel his focus and energy. They are patient, silly when appropriate, provide individual instruction when needed, and continually reinforce components of strong character. This is an amazing school. While the instructors teach the students Tae Kwon Do, I am more pleased with the life values that are being taught. Master Vinson and all the instructors teach the students values such as respect, discipline, courtesy, focus and self confidence. My son started classes two years ago and my daughter six months ago. I can't rave enough about the teachers. They run an organized, effective class. The children learn at their own pace and in a warm and positive environment. I am amazed how much personal attention every student receives. This school is fantastic. The instructors all are wonderful people. They are really good a making sure every child is building confidence no matter what the skill level is. I've been with Flying V for 3 years, and am almost a black belt. It's a great school teaching taekwando brilliantly and also promoting positive behavior. M.O. hasn't really been to Flying V, because he says no one kicks in sparring. That's ALL we do in sparring.
