Hired them only because of Yelp reviews. I mean, how the hell else am I supposed to know a good driving school from a bad one? My older son tried once to get his license when he was 17 and failed miserably. Some people excel at certain things. He is a wiz at math and statistics but sucks behind the wheel. Fortunately he lives in a large city so a driver's license is more of a convenience than a necessity. Called and spoke with Nancy and enrolled Brandon the same day. She was more than helpful. I explained to her that he would be a handful and asked her to assign someone patient. I wish I could remember his name because he was terrific. Very patient, informative and a hell of a nice guy. I went with FNL bc of their good ratings. I've had my license for over 12 years, but living in the city restricted me from driving. Since moving to NJ end of last year, I thought it was time for me to take a refresher course. Calling for information and setting up a time over the phone with Nancy was really easy. She recommended that I take a 2-hr refresher course to start, and if I thought I needed more lessons after that, I can just call up again and set up more times. She wasn't pushy at all. Thank you! I think her recommendation was exactly what I needed. I was set up with an instructor named Dane. Wonderful, very personable, PATIENT man! I was a bit nervous and hesitant getting in the driver's seat after years and years of subways and cabs, but Mr. Dane's positive energy and his calm, supportive demeanor helped gained my confidence in driving! I can't recommend F N L Driving School enough. My 17 year old daughter passed her road test the second time and I believe it was largely due to the guidance that Fred Lustenberger (the "F" of F N L Driving School) gave her. My daughter failed her first road test and this made her extremely anxious about her second attempt just a little over a month afterwards. We got in contact with F N L Driving School and right off the bat I knew I was dealing with some great people. Even before I booked an appointment, Fred Lustenberger (the "F" in F N L Driving School) gave me good advice about the NJ road test. We booked two appointments with F N L and these extremely helpful. Fred seemed to know a lot about the NJ road test course in Wayne and Lodi as well as driving in general. He was always calm, patient and most important of all, encouraging. My son is 15 and I know I will be contacting F N L for him. There are a lot of driving schools in northern NJ and unfortunately it is very difficult to determine which ones are really worthwhile. Please take my word for it here that F N L Driving School is worthwhile. It is a great place to learn to drive or brush up before the road test. Outstanding! read more

This driving school was very frustrating. When I first contacted them they asked that I mail them contract along with my daughter's passport. They kept her passport for 3 months and could not schedule her first driving lesson for 4 months. Nancy, the owner, was rude to say the least. I chose FNL because I wanted a female driving instructor for my daughter. I arranged the road test with FNL 2 months in advance. I had a male instructor take her to the test, despite the fact that I scheduled the test with the female. I paid the school $130 to take her to the road test, and they left her there on the line. They did not give her the proper instruction, and she could not get her license because she didn't have the proper proof of address. My son use Alpine driving school and had a much better experience. I would use anyone, but FNL. I have friend's who have had similar bad experiences with them. read more

They're instructors are great. The kids passed.. BUT...their customer service is horrible! They never answer the phone. Trying to get an appointment, or anyone to call you back is about 3 weeks worth of leaving 20 messages. I really don't know how they stay in business. If and when they ever get back to you - they're fine. read more

I am so pleased with this school! I found that teaching my daughter how to drive was very stressful, and she was a nervous driver (which made it worse). I called FNL and explained that I needed a patient teacher who would help my daughter become more confident behind the wheel. They set her up with Elia for the 6 hour driving class, and she is excellent. After the first lesson, my daughter felt comfortable driving around town. I was really impressed with how much different she was just after her first 2 hour lesson. I wanted her to feel confident on test day, so I paid the $130 for the refresher course and it was totally worth it. Of course, I asked for Elia again and thankfully she was available to take her to the test. She passed on her first try and is confident driving alone now. Thank you Elia & FNL!! read more

Thank you FNL, I made a Yelp account just so I could leave you guys a positive review! A week and 2 days ago, I took my road test at Lodi and got my license thanks to FNL! I called two weeks before my road test with NO driving experience whatsoever (parents wouldn't allow me to use their cars), and they managed to fit 3 lessons for me into their schedule on such short notice. I'm 19 and I never got my license at 17 (never even attempted to take the road test) because I had a driving instructor that constantly yelled at me and it ended up giving me driving anxiety for the next 2 years. But during my lessons with Fred, his patient and calm demeanor definitely rubbed off on me. He chided me slightly at one point for driving too fast, but I definitely needed that haha. He was very good at explaining certain things about driving in a way that made sense to someone who was as inexperienced (and afraid) as I was. On the morning of my actual road test, the instructor who drove me to the MVC was Dane. I loved him! We first did a mini review lesson on parking and I asked him millions of questions. He was extremely helpful and even gave me some tips that helped a lot on the road test. I had barely slept the night before and was basically shaking from nerves as we drove to the MVC because I really wanted to pass on the first try, but just talking to Dane made me feel 100x more at ease. He's such a friendly and calm guy, he made me feel very comfortable behind the wheel, which was a pretty big deal for me with my driving anxiety. All in all, my experience with FNL was really awesome and I'm most likely going to send my little brother there for his 6 hours. I recommend lessons with Fred and DEFINITELY recommend lessons with Dane. Thanks again, guys! read more

If you are looking for a great outstanding review for a New Jersey Driving School you have just found it!!! When my son was ready to start the process I called around to several area driving schools, I personally got a referral for FNL DRIVING SCHOOL, and I am so very happy and relieved that we decided to go with them. From the start of 6 hours behind the wheel, to a refresher session the week before the actual driving test and finally the anxious test day it has been the most rewarding and memorable experience. Nancy was wonderful explaining what documents were needed for both the permit and test. Fred was very patient and understanding of these young "soon to be drivers". I can not thank them both enough for a wonderful experience and making this chapter in our lives just a little bit easier! If you're looking for an excellent, professional, reasonable driving school YOU HAVE FOUND IT with FNL. We went with them on a recommendation from a friend, who used them for his 2 teenagers. As we had an awful experience with a different driving school for my oldest child, I needed recommendations! I am sooooo very glad I went with them. Initially, I dealt with Nancy (the 'N' in F N L) who was incredibly helpful in the early process of contracting, scheduling, etc. Always returned my phone calls, even from her vacation! My daughter was picked up at the house by a female school teacher (it was summer time) and they not only hit it off, but I was so impressed by both our professionalism and relaxed manner that made my daughter comfortable right from the start. She learned so much for her! We booked our road test for October, (last week). THANK GOD Nancy called to remind us (we had ended our lessons 2 months ago!) to go over everything, including the RED STICKERS we needed to have on our license plates. As we were using a different car from the one which had the stickers on it (in the shop, of course!) that was invaluable! We would have failed immediately without them! She took the time to pick up the phone in the evening and call her clients to make sure we were all set, and I was so grateful. It is so refreshing to deal with a company who lives up to their reputation. I have 2 others coming up who are definitely going to be FNL students also. I had a horrific experience with my oldest, including the instructor pulling over for 15 minutes to smoke his cigarette, etc. etc. FNL Driving School is THE place to go to, you will not be disappointed. You will see why they have been in business a long time and have very satisified customers! Oh, and my daughter passed her road test last week with flying colors!
