The walk-in sites in general are all amazing, you're secluded from everyone else but still close to the amenities. Site 83 is about a 4-minute walk from where you park your car. There are two tent pads and plenty of space. It's a beautiful site--book it early! The amenities at the campground were great, plenty of places to recycle, fill up water, and throw out trash. The bathrooms are also very nice, but they are some of the busiest bathrooms I've ever seen! There are plenty of hiking trails as well, a great visitor center and gift shop, and it is an all around lovely state park.

I'm not super experienced at camping, but the campsites felt quite close together to me. Compared to other places we've been, the sites are much less private. You can see the Falls and hike the upper areas for free. Friendly staff, small nature, center, restrooms, vending. Ample free parking. The fall cells are pretty cool. It was fairly busy so there were a lot of people around. If you walk to the other side of the highway and hike up there, there are far fewer people.

This place is great if you're looking for a nice place in the two harbors/Duluth area, but not looking to raise wild shenanigans. The owner seems to strictly enforce the 10:00 quiet rule time, which was fine with us.

Instead of going to or into the lighthouse itself, I used my state park pass to go into the state park and get a view of it. Because my motto is: you want a picture of the famous thing, not in the famous thing! This goes for the Eiffel Tower and pretty much any famous landmark. After parking in a spacious parking lot practically empty and walking a short distance, I got to the beach where there was an awesome view of the lighthouse. I walked a bit further to get closer, and every view was breathtaking! A must see when visiting the North Shore.

The sites were not on top of each others. We had plenty of room. It was gravel for the pad and grass everywhere else. They have a very nice campground picnic area and lots of areas to fish. The canoe and paddle boats are free to use. They have created a lot of trails/grass paths where you can walk/play. The park was quiet. But it was a nice mix of kids, seasonals and short timers. If we camped in the Duluth area we would stay here again.
