The walk-in sites in general are all amazing, you're secluded from everyone else but still close to the amenities. Site 83 is about a 4-minute walk from where you park your car. There are two tent pads and plenty of space. It's a beautiful site--book it early! The amenities at the campground were great, plenty of places to recycle, fill up water, and throw out trash. The bathrooms are also very nice, but they are some of the busiest bathrooms I've ever seen! There are plenty of hiking trails as well, a great visitor center and gift shop, and it is an all around lovely state park.

I'm not super experienced at camping, but the campsites felt quite close together to me. Compared to other places we've been, the sites are much less private. AMENITIES: 5/5 The amount of water spickets and bathrooms around the site were great, and the showers/main bathroom facilities were nice! STATE PARK: 5/5 We loved walking a bit of the state park over the weekend! The suspension bridge is super cool, and it's really fun to walk on and explore the unique rock formations along the water.

And when my boyfriend is involved, a vacation = fishing, fish, and fishing. We booked a week in advance on their website. Prices probably vary, but it was $520 total for 5 people to fish their hearts out from 6:30-11:30am. Fishing licenses are available for purchase, otherwise don't be a dope and just dress warm and comfortably, and bring a cooler for your catches too. Everything else was included. We could have brought beer onboard, but I've never drank beer that early in the morning... since 2010. Great Chinook Salmon bounty was advertised on their site, which we wanted real bad, but were disappointed to learn they were not "in season" until August. Oh well, lake trout will do. The charter was understaffed, but we managed (I took the wheel while the captain hooked up the lines muwahaha!). Our captain did a great job setting up tons of trolling lines, and an even better job at making sure all of them weren't tangled. He was pretty funny and wicked informative too. We caught half a dozen big lake trout. Our captain cleaned and bagged our goodies on the dock. That trout was sooooo good on the grill later that night oh lord. Especially with some cold beer.

I booked this Charter in 2019 with my dad and his friends for the veterans discount. What a…read moremistake that was. Things went bad real fast when I set the hook once and missed a fish. It was gone before I grabbed the rod but the captain scolded me like a child for setting the hook. I couldn't believe how rude he was! These guys are just clueless, randomaly trolling around and hoping for a few small fish. Their catch rates are so bad that every fish is like life or death for them, just so they can post the pictures of people with thier tiny little fish on the Green Eyes board for adversting. I understand that trolling lures with speed and line that doesn't stretch calls for some different tactics, but what they were tellling us was just stupid beyond reason. They demand that you just hold the rod tip high and reel slowly to fight a fish. While doing that, keeping pressure on the fish requires you to do it with the reel. You have to reel faster to keep the rod bent, rather than using the rod to pull, and reel down. If you don't do everything exactly as they demand they get furious and start belittling you. Honestly, they don't know that they're talking about either. They were pushing pure fishing ignorance like the gestapo. They also wanted all the lines set to the same distance, so if you reel a fish up on an outside line it gets tangled with the inside line, then they blame you for reeling it too fast, which by thier methods, is the only way to keep pressure on the fish! Just unbeleivable! There is no catch and release on this boat either. They need every fish they can get on that Green Eyes board for thier pathetic adversting. I just can't say enough bad things about this crew and charter. Go somewhere else. Literally anywhere else. This is the worst charter on Lake Superior, bar none.

As a fisherman let me say this first, they call it fishing for a reason. If you always caught fish,…read morethey would call it catching. I have fished with some of the best fisherman in the world and they don't even catch em all the time. That being said, being a charter boat captain is not only about taking your clients fishing, there is a certain experience or service that people expect when they book a trip. Our trip with Captain Paul certainly met and exceeded my expectations. I had booked an appointment for my 11 year old nephew and I. My nephew really enjoys fishing and I thought this would be a fun experience. I have previously been on a few charters including one not so great trip that my brother likes to keep reminding me about. For the record I got seasick, it wasn't pretty. Anyhow we arrived at our scheduled time and were greeted by the captains of one of their boats. We were directed to Captain Paul's boat who was getting ready for our trip. It was an absolutely beautiful day. As we headed out it wasn't long before we started to set up our lines. I say we because Captain Paul had my nephew help him which was fun for him. We booked a half day drip with is about a 6 hour day. While the first few hours went by quickly with our conversations with Captain Paul, we didn't have any bites. We tried some different depths and different lures. It wasn't until we "fooled" the fish into thinking that we were not ready that the first trout hit a line. I woke up my nephew from his slumber and he reeled in his first trout. It wasn't too long after that we had another bite but lost that one. Before the end of the day we hooked into another trout that my nephew landed. We had fun on our ride back in and were pretty pleased with a couple of nice sized trout. Captain Paul cleaned our fish for us and as a nice bonus gave my nephew a t-shirt. As we drove home we had fun with movie lines from one of our favorite movies. "What's for dinner? Trout. What's fun lunch? Trout. What's for breakfast? Trout!" For those unsure of the movie, that would be the original Parent Trap. Great movie, better time with Captain Paul and Optimum Charters. Initially I thought this might be a one time experience for my nephew however we had so much fun I'm considering making this an annual trip!
