I shop here occasionally because the prices are good and the produce is pretty good too. What isn't good is the customer service. I always brace myself because I know there will be not one hello, not one smile, not any help and the shopping experience is just awful because of this. Today the cashier seemed absolutely annoyed she had to put her phone down to do her job and I overheard several employees complaining about having to work there. I tried shopping at Food Lion today, because I'm trying to watch my budget. First, their prices are soooo much more affordable than the other grocery stores. A bag of oranges was half the price of the other stores. Family packs of chicken were on sale and fortunately, the butcher shop manager honored the price on smaller packs as the large packs were sold out. The store is not fancy, but it's clean and all of the employees are friendly and helpful. I am definitely going to start shopping here more often! read more

Food Lion gets a bum rap for not having enough of a shopping experience and for lacking customer service, but for my money, it beats all the other grocery stores hands-down. And Food Lion stores aren't very large which means I can go, get what I want and get done quickly. read more

This Food Lion location on Folly Road on James Island is a reliable grocery store and well managed Food Lion that has everything that you need and more. I really like the deli and bakery here and their delicious food options. The staff here is very helpful and will take the time to help you if you need anything. I have enjoyed shopping here. read more

Normally is a great store to shop. As of late, not so much. 2 cashier's working lines of 15 people, buggies or more. Word has it that manager cutting full time employees hours to improve on his upcoming bonus. Won't shop there until problem is corrected. Had to leave buggy with meat sitting in the isle after a 15 minute wait and still 12 buggies in front of me. Let it rot! read more

We went by this Food Lion to grab something quick on our way home for dinner. When we walked in the store smelled funny and when we got to the produce isle there were flies and the produce was not fresh at all. At this point we decided to leave and drive down to HT. read more

I came in today to grab a few things and to check the place out for the first time. I stopped at the front desk and asked for a savers/value card and said I was new to the area. The gentleman was very polite, asked me how much I'm going to miss the snowy winters and introduced me to the store manager. I was happy to see they had my turkey bacon and most of the things I was looking for, but they didn't carry the tweezers nor the nail glue that I really needed to save my day... but oh well. I noticed they had a very small selection of deli meats compared to those in Chicago. (ahhh, i probably have to stop comparing to Chicago.. lol). I'll be back. read more

Well, this is not my favorite grocery store on the Island. Every time I come in here, it's out of convenience because it's so close by. It's usually a bit dingy in here, which is not how I want my grocery store to be. Last time I stopped by, one of the cart dudes was taking one cart in at a time so that he could continue smoking his cigarette, which he left at the entrance. What?? Take the extra time and hit one of the Harris Teeters in the area, it's worth it. read more

I went there last night. I walked up to the store at 10:30 and watched an employee (who made eye contact with me and quickly looked away) lock the doors even though according to the sign on the door the store doesn't close until 11. Appalling customer service.... read more

Sometimes folks think of this as the forgotten grocery store. I like it for the produce and cuts of meat. Yes at certain times of the year you can get produce in bulk for a good price and its local. I had a lot of family in last summer and they all wanted corn on the cob, went here and order a case of corn on the cob. They had it for me that same day, fresh and sweet! The folks here are very friendly plus the discounts add up if you get a loyalty card. you wont be disappointed. read more

Oh, Harris Teeter, why do you have to be so far away when Food Lion is so convenient? I've come here way too many times... and the fact that I come back is an attestation to my laziness, because it's surely not a store I would shop at if I had my druthers. You can hate on me for saying this, but this place would SOO go out of business if it wasn't for EBT. I once saw a girl tell the checker to take back her carton of Yoo-Hoo because she didn't have enough money. No lie... I couldn't make this stuff up. Every time I run in just to grab one or two quick things, I realize how much stuff they just DON'T carry - a few examples: fresh parsley, pita chips, organic ANYTHING (although I think they may have milk now, but don't push it and ask for any fancy lowfat or skim stuff!) read more

Employees are unwilling to help, have no idea where things are located inside the store if you can find one who will actually try to help you, and the level of general rudeness of employees in this store is surprising for Food Lion & saddening for South Carolina. read more

I stop at this Food Lion almost daily on my way home from work. The day staff is always friendly and eager to assist. After 5 the cashiers change over to a group of young (future} adults who are professional and ready to work. I could shop at the Harris Teeter across the street from where I live for convenience but I refuse to pay those prices. Food Lion has the same meat, produce, dairy. No, Food Lion does not have the same specialty products but who but tourist care. James Island is a very diverse community of wealthy to poor neighbors so EBT use is not uncommon. Of course Food Lion has more EBT consumers because Food Lion gives the best value. I will continue driving 2 miles to Food Lion even when not passing by instead of going across the street. read more
