We are huge fans of Safeway! We have yet to pay full price…read moreon our groceries. Discounts are so easy to apply via their app. Plus you get 20% off coupons for filling five prescriptions there. Plus 10% for getting your vaccinations done in store. Oh and add on the free stuff that you can get via their app. Yes the store does need a bit of love, the freezers have dings, and the floor could do with retiling. But the food is in date and at great prices. Other stores tend to be less than fastidious about removing out of date produce. (I'm looking at you Giant!) Everyone is friendly and we barely have to wait at all at checkout. If there is a line of any length, customer service will open another checkout.

Which is fine, things happen but they need to make that clear when entering the store or at least possibly put signs up at the registers. Having to wait in line, go through the checkout process, and then after the debit card is not authorized have the cashier rudely state "you can't use debit" and when asking why she THEN states the system is down. I suggested that they need to have that information posted somewhere so that people are aware coming into the store. Did she even bother to acknowledge my suggestion? Nope didn't even look at me. Again, things happen but it's how they are handled that matters most.

Due to a fraud alert on my credit card, it had to be re-issued and I had about 10 days without a…read morevalid card. During that time, I shopped at the Giant Food store in north Frederick Maryland. I have been shopping at the store for 14 years and at another Giant Food in Delaware for an equivalent amount of time. When I tried to check out, the electronic check service that Giant uses declined to approve my check. The store manager was sympathetic but was not allowed by corporate policy to override the service under any circumstances. A later received an email from Customer Service explaining their policies and and they were happy that my issue was resolved. I talked with Giant customer support and after I explained the situation and my customer history, which they verified, 2000 rewards points were added to my card. This should have been enough to get a $2.00/gallon discount on gas. Shortly after that, I filled by car with gas but only a $0.40/gallon discount was allowed. Ten days later, I tried again but no bonus points were available. My only conclusion is that Customer Service reneged on the bonus points award after reviewing the action. I obviously am generally happy with Giant Food given that I've shopped there for years. The store has a good variety of goods, is kept clean and neat, and the staff is friendly, to the point that I have family conversations with a few of the clerks. However, despite the number of commercials on area stations touting their service, they have failed in this case.

In addition to a beautiful leg of lamb, I got 2 pounds of deep red ground beef, some killer looking short ribs, a healthy order of center cut pork chops and some of the best frozen veggies I could ever hope for. How do I know those frozen veggies are great? Because I have gotten them before and the flavor is like sunshine on my tongue!!! Just like fresh picked with no additives or preservatives! Wagner's is the real deal. I wish I lived closer to this store but my doctor who watches my cholesterol like a hawk is probably glad I don't. Could I find meat as high quality and fresh as I get at Wagner's? I seriously doubt it.
