Due to a fraud alert on my credit card, it had to be re-issued and I had about 10 days without a valid card. During that time, I shopped at the Giant Food store in north Frederick Maryland. I have been shopping at the store for 14 years and at another Giant Food in Delaware for an equivalent amount of time. When I tried to check out, the electronic check service that Giant uses declined to approve my check. The store manager was sympathetic but was not allowed by corporate policy to override the service under any circumstances. A later received an email from Customer Service explaining their policies and and they were happy that my issue was resolved. I talked with Giant customer support and after I explained the situation and my customer history, which they verified, 2000 rewards points were added to my card. This should have been enough to get a $2.00/gallon discount on gas. Shortly after that, I filled by car with gas but only a $0.40/gallon discount was allowed. Ten days later, I tried again but no bonus points were available. My only conclusion is that Customer Service reneged on the bonus points award after reviewing the action. I obviously am generally happy with Giant Food given that I've shopped there for years. The store has a good variety of goods, is kept clean and neat, and the staff is friendly, to the point that I have family conversations with a few of the clerks. However, despite the number of commercials on area stations touting their service, they have failed in this case. read more

I gave this location five stars due to the politeness of all the staff, and due to the special sales that they have on weekends. My cashier tonight's name was Nancy and she was a very wonderful person. The manager helped me and my friend out with our purchases. There is no other clean and well organized store such as this one. I have been shopping at this Giant Store for over 20 years and have watched it go from one of the best grocery stores in Frederick to one that is dirty and poorly managed. The produce is a joke, I bought a cantaloupe two days ago and it was inedible. The flavor was awful and when I checked the sticker to see where it was from, I noticed the EU(European Union) emblem. Tried shopping there today and was infuriatingly unsuccessful. I'm a diabeteic and Voormans sugar-free cookies give me the runs. They no longer carry Murray's. Amazon does. I tried buying theit $ 8.00 sandwich combo with chips and drink and couldn't find the chips that go with it, only a brand close buy that, if I were to have taken it, I would have had to pay- deceptive. I filled up at their gas station and their audio system there gave me an endless lecture as to how great they are at saving energy. Not forgettable music, but attention-demanding talk. Great mgmt excellent employees. They really are some of the nicest people that you'll ever meet. Especially the older employees thst have been there for many years. I love and respect them and their dedication. However. I unfortunately was extremely Disturbed when I noticed an employee working behind the deli with no mask, no hair tie, no hat, and no gloves describing to another employee who was wearing all of the PPE about what happens if they were infected with Covid 19. We are in a time where those who are careless with their job can harm many people with their lack of discretion. As she was explaining this virus to a another employee she began to shake her hair out violently right against the Deli counter. That one individual won't change my perspective of the overall business management and other employees but I do believe there is culture that allows this person to do whatever they want wherever they want regardless of any pandemic. This is a very serious situation that we are all in. And I would've walked out right there but I was shopping on someone else's behalf. read more

Put in a grocery order for pickup. They messaged me at the pickup time and told me to come. Once I arrived, I received a message that they were bringing out the groceries. But what actually happened is that a woman came out to tell me that my order had been canceled. She could not say why or by whom. She could not gather the groceries now, or reschedule for tomorrow. All she could do was give me a number to call. I called the number from the parking lot, they were closed. Putting aside their DMV-esque customer service, I don't feel comfortable trusting these people to safely manage my food. These guys couldn't find their rear with both hands. read more

absolutely awful service walked up to the cigarette counter and the lady working there was extremely rude, awful tone of voice when i told her the type i wanted. proceded to have a conversation with another employee as i'm trying to tell her what i want . i don't know if she was racist or homophobic but she needs to change that attitude (gray hair, makeup that looks like it was done by a 5 year old, older woman ) forgot what else ahhaha. read more

I used to love coming here. It was my go to store even though there is one closer to my home. However management seriously needs to make some decisions. If you can't staff the store appropriately then close it. I've been here before and the deli is closed at 7pm. Seriously? What about people who work and want to pick up groceries on the way home? Several times I have gone to do my weekly shopping later in the evening and they don't have any regular checkouts open. How am I, with my cart overflowing, supposed to go to self checkout? You've got to be kidding. I asked the young lady at the service desk who was not doing anything if she could open a register. She said no and I'd have to go to self checkout. She could have opened a register and stepped away to tend to the service desk if needed. I left an entire cart easily $500 or more and walked out. This is ridiculous. I'd rather pay 20% more and have to lug around my own bags and go to Wegmans. You've lost a loyal customer. read more

Fellow pregnant chicks, you'll love it here! They keep the temperature here at artic levels, no matter if it's winter or summer outside. I've found the fresh produce selection to be pretty good, if not always cheap. There are usually good sale prices on some items. The deli counter is well stocked too. I wish the hot bar had more than rotisserie chickens. Even my ghetto Giant in Hyattsville has a full hot bar so you can make a meal for dinner. While it's not a whole section like other locations, this Giant does have an aisle dedicated to organic foods which I didn't expect in Fredneck. I love that I can get my fave brand of turkey sausage now because Wegman's sure doesn't carry it. There is a bakery cart in the corner of the dairy aisle that usually has plenty of fresh baked items at big discounts. We love scoring banana creme cake there! Another nice thing is that they usually have a bagger helping people who choose self checkout. One con I've noticed is that they never have fresh wingettes in stock, only frozen ones. read more

This Giant has some great staff working there! They treat you like family. I've had so many wonderful experiences there. One recently was with Joyce the self scanner associate that works there. She's always so helpful and goes put of her way for me & my 2 year old son. He looks forward to going there and looks for her eagerly. Until I moved from Frederick, this was where I did most of my grocery shopping. Yes, Giant is a bit pricier than other grocers, but its worth it. The produce is always fresh and the shelves stocked and neat. I never have a hard time finding anything or getting help. Its totally worth it. read more

Since moving to Thurmont, I have really missed my Giant for great prices and all-natural meats. This store is all that and more; HUGE clean inside, as nice as Wegman's (including cheeses, although nothing can match the bakery there) and I saved mucho money. For instance, my cats' favorite Friskies pouches are a good $3 cheaper here than anywhere else in north Fred. county. I walked out with 3 bags of groceries for the same price as I was paying for one at other local stores, and that included 5 steaks. I love it here, can't go wrong; the only problem is the stupid no access to Rte. 26 from 15N, that really sucks, but once you go around, this place is easy on/off. They even have a gas station, although you need $100 in points to get 10cents/gal. off, that's a little steep. All in all, a great store. read more

Navigating the parking lot is the biggest challenge. The layout is not the most efficient but they do have a decent deli counter.

I continue to have a much better shopping experience here than at Wegmans. The produce is much better quality, and usually cheaper. Shelves continue to be well-stocked. No need to go to multiple stores when getting groceries. read more

It would be nice if this store had a dedicated checkout for a few items. It seems like the last few times I have visited the store, there have only been one or two registers open, both with longs lines of full carts. The only alternative is the self checkouts, which do not reliably work. The self checkouts can be a challenge for elderly people or those technically challenged. With Wegmans up the street and a new Super Walmart opening across the street, this store better up its game if it wants to compete. read more

This location is in need of new management and staff training. I have been to plenty other locations including the same one i am reviewing with no issue. Each time i use the same form of payment with no issues bo questions no id no nothing. I go in a few days ago the cashier asked for my id i asked why and she just said she needed it. I explained i never have been asked before and why she chose today to ask....mind you this person has rung me up multiple times previously with same for of payment no questions no id. She had no response. Today i go in for some holiday shopping same thing occurs, ask me for id which i produce and then they decline to further my transaction, keep my check and make a list of excuses. First thing to say if my account is compromised due to their theft of my check i will sue the pants off that location. Secondly im pretty sure that they did not further my transaction due to their bigotry. So instead of furthering a pointless conversation with a inept manager i took my business to Wegmans up the street. Slightly higher prices but they honoured my payment type(check) with no issues. If you want to have a crappy holiday experience shopping visit this giant food location. read more
