I don't want to say that for every employee because I have encountered some nice ones but the deli and floral department could use some more customer service minded individuals. I went in looking for a small arrangement for my daughter's teacher and the lady was very short and just said look in the case. Everything in the floral area was bare so I went to the case because I didn't have much time to go galavanting to other flower shops. It wasn't really what I was looking for but it got the job done. Then recently I went to order a sub and the lady was so rude. She just stared at me so I guess that was my cue to start my order. I wanted to make sure she was all set after wrapping stuff up from the previous customer. I let her know the type of sub I wanted and she just blankly looked at me without saying a word. I was like maybe she didn't hear me. I was a little confused. I said my order again and she just looked. I stood there for a moment because I was really confused. She said in a very rude tone, "well do you want bread with that?" I was like oh yes I'm sorry and told her the type of sub roll, not many options. I'm used to going through my sub order at most sandwich shops in an order and not rushing to tell them every single thing at one time. I don't like someone to feel rushed so I usually wait until they are ready for next step. When she went towards the extra toppings I immediately said the few items I wanted to add to it because she really didn't like that I delayed a tad to say my bread choice. Then she just said to me, "that's it?" She was even rude about how I wanted to build the sandwich. In addition to a couple meats, I got cheese and three other toppings. I'm sorry it sounds good to me and want to be able to bite the sandwich and not put a million things in it. They have always overfilled them when I got some in the past. This location feels more like an original Lowes Foods than a renovation of the previous store- this building has held quite a few grocery store chains in the last few years. Lowes has a loyalty program and sales occur from Wednesday-Tuesday. The hot food area, sushi, and deli have some great selections. If traffic is really terrible, hit the Beer Den and have a pint while you wait for things to clear up. Lowes Foods has specials several days a week and lots of local and regional beers are on tap. It is exactly the kind of convenient and updated grocery option that Johns Island needed. The staff were friendly, helpful, and genuinely seemed to enjoy being there, which made a big difference. The selection is excellent, especially if you are looking for fresh and healthier options. I am completely obsessed with their chicken sausage. It is flavorful, feels like a healthier choice, and has quickly become a staple for me. One of my favorite finds was their orchid promotion. They had buy one get one free orchids, which ended up being a savings of about twenty dollars. Such a great deal for something that instantly brightens up your home. The only downside is that prices do run a bit higher than other grocery stores, so it may not be the place for all your shopping every week. I'm going to try the beer, because I can buy in recyclable growlers - and it's tasty. But the attribute I like best is that while it's not silent, there's the usual hubbub, it's quiet enough to have a normal volume conversation with a friend or a group. I must admit as a former chef then afterwards living in Kansas City and Austin TX for 25 years and frequenting large grocery stores with almost all of the things I've needed under one roof; I've been very disappointed with almost all the grocery stores here. So, after my mother convinced me to stop by Lowes I was pleasantly surprised with a chain that "gets it" here in town. Walking in I found the place to be extremely clean with some of the nicest employees I've come across since being back in town. Moreover, they're rather smart; strategically placing fresh baked focaccia bread close to the entrance, enticing one's stomach to influence the power of the purse. Next, I challenge anyone to resist their smoked foods as the air is heavy with the sweet perfume. Please note that Lowes carries a LOT of items customers will NOT find at other stores. From the towns best selection of cheeses, rack of lamb, watermelon radish and on the list continues, I encourage all those reading this to shop this store for those harder to find items. As for instore made items, I've tried a few and would like to report my limited findings. First, I bought a loaf of olive focaccia bread a noted weakness of mine. I found it be pillow-y moistness, bouncing back to the touch with a good fragrance however the amount of rosemary in it will repel even the most persistent of demons (odd refence). I bought another loaf of parmesan and I had the same issue, just way to rosemary which I happen to enjoy. I wish they had an alternative without the herb but other than that it's awesome. Another success in the bakery was the Bavarian donuts which I highly advise not buying as they're downright addictive. Soft, moist and a perfect chocolate to cream ratio these things are illegal in 5 surrounding counties! As for protein, I broke down and got the smoked chicken wings and macaroni salad for lunch. Again, this would be a resounding success if it weren't for one overwhelming ingredient; in this case salt. I'm of the belief they marinated these wings in the dead sea as it tasted as if the cap to the salt shaker fell off when seasoning these wings. Otherwise, these wings hit on all notes as they were moist and had the perfect amount of smoke. As for the mac salad, everyone has their version of what are perfect ingredients so I'll just add this, they perfectly cooked the pasta. That is to say the noodles weren't soggy or cooked to death; rather al dente which is perfect for the summertime favorite. As for addins I think they're ok but that's very subjective. Again, a certified hit. I did grab the sushi one day but I'm not a fan of grocery store sushi for the simple fact that the rice needs to be warm and the fish cold as it creates a contrast in the mouth. That said I got the fried shrimp sushi and it was just like any other store, not great. Nothing taken away as I realize most people are happy with this. My point is if I'm craving sushi a grocery store isn't the first thing that comes to mind as a true restaurant has better quality fish and a more diverse menu. To summarize Lowes is a great place to obtain those harder to find ingredients with the best in store created foods among all the competitors out there. The people here are very nice and willing to help however please note you'll need to obtain a card to get the discounts, the one down side of Lowes, is they're a little more expensive. However, "it's a small price to pay" for leveling up on the quality meter. This is my favorite grocery store in town and it's not even close.

You walk into this store and you instantly get a feeling that it is quite modernized. Like some of the older stores, they have many signs telling you which aisle to go down for particular things such as spices, water or whatever. There also are additional signs which show you where various food or other items in the interior of the aisle. For example on the frozen food aisle there are signs carefully indicating pizza, snacks, meals or whatever. The staff appear more friendly, helpful and perhaps more motivated. A number of cashiers such that you only are number 2 or 3 in a line, where you are efficiently handled. Food Lion can survive with this store as an example, with a number of items plainly marked as being at a reduced sales price. The location right on Savannah Highway and along the side road to Costco might be the reason.

They had no self-checkout and it was a bit of a wait before extra staff flexed down to the register to get me out of there. It's surprising to me because it's an area with plenty of good businesses, but this seemed not to be one of them.
