This is a smaller, locals food lion that I have been going to for about 5 years. overall they are well stocked with foods that I am looking for. Their meats are fresh and have good deals. The produce is super hit or miss, unfortunately I've found some near-rotten produce, so double and triple check what you get. The deli counter is getting more sparse with it's offerings but it is nice to be able to get fresh-cut meats and cheeses. There are rotisserie chickens available throughout the day that are a good deal. The store has always been clean and workers help when they can. When checking out, most cashiers are friendly and efficient. It is not an overly busy location, so going during an 'off' time means you'll have little or no wait to check out. Went there for the first time and will not go back. I found there selection of items to be limited. For example the bakery section is small with not much choices compared to Giant or even Shoppers. Same scenario with ice cream. Also was looking for Irish butter which they didn't have. For me this store/shopping experience was not worth my time. Rather go to Giant where I can guarantee to get the items I'm looking for which is also closer to home. Store was clean. Wasn't very busy when I went in the evening. Checkout lines was pretty short. For a surprisingly big store they have a very small parking lot. However, the store was not jam-packed on a Sunday afternoon like my local Giant is. This was my first time in a bloom. I don't have one nearby and when the movie I planned to see was sold out I ended up here. It's bright and cheery. The cashier was friendly and offered me yet another savings card (their Breeze card) to add to my keychain collection. Why can't a sale just be a sale for everyone? I'm not sure I liked the layout of the store. It reminded me more of a CVS with convenience items on shelves perpendicular to the grocery aisles. I like my dog food with the people food, after all my dog is part of the family, not a car accessory. I'd shop here if I lived nearby. They carry brands I can't find in other chains. I'm sure I could get used to the layout. After all, no matter what anyone says, old dogs can learn new tricks. read more

4/24/21 update - The cashier service here has gone downhill since Howard County began charging 5 cents for plastic bags. They will not assist with placing groceries in free paper bags, which doesn't make sense except for being lazy. Management needs to improve customer service. We will take our business to the Laurel Food Lion where cashiers are helpful, pleasant, and courteous. Plus, plastic bags are free in that store. read more

Clean store, generally easy to navigate, rarely busy. Disparate service depending on employee you encounter. One time the Checker wouldn't help me finish bagging my items after I had offered to help her while she was ringing up the items after I paid. She actually asked me to move the cart with my two kids so the person behind me could access the card machine, she bagged her stuff and helped the person after that and then watched me finish up. I had brought my own bags, I thought maybe it was a weird store policy as I had not refused her service at any point, I put my bags in the car and came back and talked to the manager. I asked him to explain what had happened, if I had accidentally offended her in some way, if I owed her an apology or she owed me one, but I wanted to understand the stores policy on service and to prevent this from happening again to someone else. He talked to her, twice. I never got an explanation, but he handed me a ten dollar gift card. Update- January 2020. I went back to give them a second chance at my husband's urging. First experience went well. Second experience the checker chatted with a self service customer while I waited for a kiosk to open, when my husband approached from getting a forgotten item the checker offered to help him in the adjacent aisle completing ignoring me. He said yes, we'd like that, and grabbed my cart. She talked to him and never acknowledged me during checkout as well. I don't get it, how does this happen? She saw me waiting in the self service line, we made eye contact. My husband was really unhappy. It's really unfortunate to encounter these experiences locally, I do not recommend supporting this business if you want to support equal treatment of all customers read more

Looking for great places to buy sweets and checking out all the bakeries in the area. You won't find the high quality cakes here like the bakeries offer but if you need cupcakes or cakes for a party at a very reasonable price, this Food Lion has the best food-store bakers I have tried. read more

I am seriously getting concerned for Bloom. Their quality of goods has PLUMMETED since the Harris Teeter opened up a mile away. Bloom used to stock all sorts of specialty items (think dairy-free "sour cream" and "cream cheese" and gourmet salts for cooking). Now...now they barely carry the basics. Customers have noticed, too. Hours have been slashed, clientele is dwindling. It's a pity, really, since Bloom is within walking distance. If they carried the things I need, I would never go to Harris Teeter. Alas, they no longer do. I give them a year to go out of business. read more

The rundown: Not as good as the Harris Teeter, not as bad as the Weis. I've found this supermarket to be the intermediary of the other two supermarkets that are nearby. The supermarket is generally clean, but it can be a tad more expensive for some of the items. Also, there isn't a salad bar. I know this isn't a big deal for a lot of people, but seriously, you have an olive bar and no salad bar? Just how classy are you? I'm not sure how much I trust the fish from the monger here, because it kinda stinks back there. But in terms of the essentials, and some decent deals on chicken and beef, it is an ok place to go. Actually, according to my rating, it's an A-OK place to go. Just pick and choose well here, and make sure you check the expiration dates on some perishables like milk and bread. read more

A little pricier than other grocery stores in the area (but cheap, compared to Harris Teeter) but EXTREMELY friendly. Good bakery, nice takeout department, pharmacy, and more. Very handicapped-accessible. This was the first place I ever saw with the hand-held scanners that enable you to ring up your purchases while shopping. Edited to add: the service is bad in the evenings with inexperienced clerks and a manager who'd rather yak on the phone than help her panicking newbie clerk. I ran into this Food Lion to just get a watermelon some chips and salsa. I had not been in a Food Lion for a number of years I thought they were all extinct! So I walk in here and I notice how clean everything is. I noticed that the staff seemed to be a lot younger than most and there were also smiling. Surprised by the low ratings. This is a small store with a limited selection in fresh foods. I hoped the remodel would address this but it did not. I'm actually trying to write a complimentary review for a location, being that I just wrote a negative review for the Columbia Foot Locker. So, I've never had a problem at the Food Lion. Parking is always good, and service is always attentive. I like the sales that they have and prefer this store to any other that in the immediate area. It's very convenient and never lines, although if there are, they also have the self service area which is pretty easy to use. The produce is my fav, and always looks fresh. I don't have to pick through a bunch of stuff to find things and the lighting is good. To sum up all of my experiences there: Easy in, easy to shop, easy out. normally my family visits this location on Laurel/Bowie Rd on Crystal Dr.3-4 times in a 7 day period but on today's visit, both me and my Husband are handicap seniors My husband asked to a bag for a 1 gallon milk jug, cashier proceeded to tell my husband that it's again't stores policy , she must have been a new cashier as normally the cashier would've asked us if we wanted a bag for milk :( our family spends $600 a month in your store and just think loosing our business over a plastic bag(which usually the white reg bags have holes in the, and on occasion the blue freezer bags also have holes. After We returned home I called asking for the General Manager and spoke assistant manager by the name of "Leslie" and voiced my complaint over a plastic bag, which cashier could have gave handicap seniors who up until now that carry grocery items up several flight of steps and have to use on hand to hold onto rail to steps. the Assistant manager "Leslie" offered a $10 gift card if we decided to come back to your store and apologized for the issue we had, which we'd appreciate it, but the response from Corporate office would tell if we would ever come back to any of your stores as we have 3 in the general area to our home. First it was food lion, then it was bloom, and now it's back to food lion. I only go here when I need 1 or 2 things, because it's the closest to where I live. Ever since it returned to food lion, the selection of products has dramatically decreased. They typically have nice produce, but I would NOT trust ANY of their meat. The prepackaged stuff from perdue or nature valley is fine , but everything else looks a little off. read more

The store is neat, but the customer service is pretty bad after 5pm. The clerks seem to be attitudinal and the manager doesn't seem much better. I've actually asked to speak to a manager in regards to the bad attitudes of the clerks. When the manager arrived, she came across as if I'd rudely interrupted her from whatever task she was doing. Now that the Bloom has changed to a Food Lion, the clerks in the evening still seem unfriendly. read more
