The store was clean and mirrored many of the Walmarts. I have visited over the year so it was easy to find items. The only issue that I had during my time at this Walmart supercenter was during checkout. A couple of the registers were reserved for something that was called for a spark member. I'm not quite sure what that meant, but I was sort of confused as to why we would be reserving registers for Spark Members that was not there when easily they could be opened to allow the whole line to flow quicker.

Unfortunately, my fiancé locked the keys in his car which he informed the manager who intern turned around and walked away and ended up calling the cops. Are you kidding me? What exactly are we doing wrong here sitting in a parking lot taking up four spaces when there's 50-60 other spaces not causing a problem. Literally have walked over there. 20 times and spent over $1000 for the manager to be a self-righteous prick.. will not be returning into that store for anything. Extremely disappointing since every other associate besides the manager we're actually people that enjoyed being there and it showed and they did a great job. Too bad their manager sucks. He tried to spell company policy, which is a bunch of BS. If he would've tried to lie and say it was Town ordinance or some bull crap like that, I could understand, but in the 25 other states that I visited every Walmart was the the accommodating as long as we spoke to the manager and gave them a heads up as to how many days we were trying to stay there.. One can also find items, like rabbit meat, that the other markets don't carry. While it is an older store, I find it a comfortable place to shop. And I like that the spirits are tucked away from the regular grocery items. And there are always plenty of good choices in the bakery section, you are missing something if you don't try the pies and cakes.

The store is conveniently located on the main drag through Shallotte, not too far from the intersection of Highway 17 and Business 17. The layout of the store is similar to the Holden Beach one, although it feels much larger and newer, with updated flooring and signage. The wine section is larger and more varied, with specials at all price points. I like that Food Lion carries the Udi's gluten free breads, including their baguette, which is pretty decent for GF bread. The trick is to know these breads are located in a freezer case on the way to the produce area, just past the deli section. The staff is friendly and helpful, and checkout is a breeze.

The Deets: While at a recent vacation in Holden Beach, we had the need to pick up a new plastic chair by request for one of the group. Remembering this Dollar General just outside of Holden Beach on the way to Shallotte, we went there to see what they had. It is easy to find with the usual Dollar General road signage. It has a fair sized parking lot that appeared to be pretty occupied when we arrived (more on that later). Right as we walked up, we found the type of chair needed and it was the only one left, lucky us! So we grabbed it and in we went. Once inside, it's the usual type of layout and large mixture of items one would expect seeing at a Dollar General. This one had almost 4 star potential except, remember when I remarked on how many cars were in the lot? Well, all those people were waiting in line to get checked out with their merchandise. I'm going with 3 stars here because they have the capacity for more than one person to staff registers but there was only one staff member there. Granted, this person worked very hard, stayed positive, and worked as efficiently as possible with the amount of people with the amount of items handled. Knowing this store services a beach area with it being summer, I'd say they needed all registers staffed for efficiency. With that said, this Dollar General is OK, we found what was needed.
