In town to do some appliance shopping after Thanksgiving, I opted to stop in and pick up the few things I needed from the grocery. The store is conveniently located on the main drag through Shallotte, not too far from the intersection of Highway 17 and Business 17. The layout of the store is similar to the Holden Beach one, although it feels much larger and newer, with updated flooring and signage. The wine section is larger and more varied, with specials at all price points. I like that Food Lion carries the Udi's gluten free breads, including their baguette, which is pretty decent for GF bread. The trick is to know these breads are located in a freezer case on the way to the produce area, just past the deli section. The staff is friendly and helpful, and checkout is a breeze.

They have some excellent up front associates who really present themselves well...thus making this particular store much better than other Food Lions in their chain. These quality people make shopping here a pleasure rather than a chore. The store is clean and always well stocked. Their meats are good, occasionally I have gotten some lunch meat from their deli that are tough and not quiet up to par. Their other meats are usually very good. Their vegetables are good and presented well. As a whole, for a small town grocery store, we are fortunate to have FOOD LION CORPORATION in Shallotte, NC.

The store was clean and mirrored many of the Walmarts. I have visited over the year so it was easy to find items. The only issue that I had during my time at this Walmart supercenter was during checkout. A couple of the registers were reserved for something that was called for a spark member. I'm not quite sure what that meant, but I was sort of confused as to why we would be reserving registers for Spark Members that was not there when easily they could be opened to allow the whole line to flow quicker.

I have never been to…read moreLowe's grocery store however each time I went it was clean, there was quick service and it seemed like the prices were reasonable. When I went to check out I did not have a Lowe's saving card and so each time the employees promptly type a code in so I could still receive the savings. The part that I really enjoyed about shopping at Lowe's is that they have a really fun and vibrant bakery area.

Plus, the coleslaw and pasta salad is very good here so they beat out the other local stores. Lowe's always had beautiful displays when you walk in with lots of tempting goodies. It is the…read morequick or emergency "go-to" place (convenience/gas) on the island, just at the end of the Odell Williamson Bridge as you come in from the mainland over the Intercostal Waterway. If you are looking to make big grocery store trips to get a big bunch of food or supplies for the week, you probably are going to head to the Lowes Foods right back over the bridge or the Food Lions near Sunset Beach or Shallotte. But for quick things, a few food items or convenience store things, beer, etc. then Sheffield's fits the bill. A huge walk in beer cooler, always nice especially when it is so hot outside! There is a small seafood shop in the back as well. Quick ice stop here is probably the main reason we see it so much. Very nice people working, great location, and handy items make Sheffield's one place you will probably visit many times if you make it out to OIB anytime for a vacation.

Spoiled by Harris Teeter and Publix, we typically avoid Food Lion back home, but this beach location has its own charm, which can best be attributed to the pleasant locals that it employs. Besides the friendly service, it is also larger than your typical Food Lion. The meat and produce departments both offer plenty of fresh products and the deli/ bakery, which happily greets you upon entry, is also a tempting option. Of course, it is geared to the tourist so the expected selection of beachy items like straw hats, sand toys, flip flops and what not. The prices seem to be a bit pricier than your average Food Lion but not drastically so.

The wife purchased an 8-piece fried chicken on Memorial Day. There were 2 breasts, 2 legs, 3 wings…read more& 1 piece of mystery meat which we assumed was a small part of a thigh. Yes, we received 8-pieces. The chicken was over battered, over cooked, dry and underfeed! If you want good fried chicken go to Publix's or Bojangles!

Clean, with…read morereasonable grocery prices for a beach area, good selection, and both staffed/self checkout options available. Very busy place as it is nearest to the beach and at a busy intersection, so the parking lot can be crowded also. The Deets: The nearest big chain grocery store in the Holden Beach area is this Food Lion, back on the mainland in the shopping center at the first stoplight after coming back over the bridge from the beach (same on as Walgreens). The parking lot is usually pretty packed as this store/shopping center is a pretty busy one. The grocery store itself is pretty clean and has a good layout, but again usually pretty busy with customers. The grocery prices are pretty acceptable for a beach area and of course their Food Lion MVP cards for special prices are useable here. There is a pretty good selection of all grocery items, no visible lacking areas noted so far. There is a hot food bar available if you want to use for a premade meal to take home. The beer cooler is towards the front to the left as you walk in, pretty handy in a beach area obviously. There are staffed checkout lines as well as self checkout kiosks, and the self checkout area line actually moves pretty fast as well staff comes quickly when needed/screen signals them. This beach area Food Lion gets the job done and I have to say it's not bad compared to most beach area grocery stores as well as a lot of Food Lion stores in general.
