Staff treated us kindly, even I am jook sing and my partner doesn't speak any Chinese. The pork and herb soup is very strong on herbals, perhaps the ginseng, it is quite bitter but comforting soup. The black pepper sauce chicken tastes delicious, spicy from the black pepper but the most tasty "gravy" I've tasted in the past 10 years! (It's like a spicier version of the legendary black pepper sauce from the long-closed Kenny's Noodle.) Curry chicken is medium spicy and also very flavourful. Definitely would get this one again. My little one picked a kids meal cheese pizza, she enjoyed it. They also had my little one spin for a prize and got a free tea beverage. There aren't a lot of HK style cafes in downtown Toronto so while I was in Markham I wanted to try this one I saw in Pacific Mall. For $6.99 you get toast, 2 eggs, a piece of ham, and a small drink. The lemon tea did not have much flavour, it tasted like a reused tea bag with a reused lemon slice. The white of the egg was too undercooked so it was like mucous (this could be a me problem tho, I should have asked for over easy instead of sunny side up) food tasted standard but it wasn't as good as the place in First Markham Place. Fast food joint upstairs of Pacific Mall . We ordered the Hainan Chinese rice, HK baked pork chop on rice and a cold Hk milk tea. The sign said they have the best milk tea in Toronto so had to try because a lot of places seem to say that although to be fair they won a competition in 2016 for their milk tea. The method they make their tea is actually done well and tasted nice but best is always subjective and based on preference. The Hainan chicken advertised as a chicken leg cut was not what I ended up with a bit disappointing for value. Chicken was tender but over cooked, impressed how it's not dry lol. The baked pork chop was also mediocre, can get it better at hk cafes including price point. All in all I wouldn't say its value for what I paid for food tasted decent for the most part and the service was good. The staff remembered we didn't get served the bubble waffle and also brought out our food to the table we were sitting at. The bubble waffle was amazing better than others in the other food court. We asked if we could downsize to a smaller cup maybe and she begrudgingly did so. She may have been more willing since we spoke to in Mandarin. Maybe she's nicest to Cantonese speakers. I came back later with some cash in hand for an iced milk tea. The Hong Kong milk tea is tasty, not a fan of the ice she uses in the drink, though. I generally come to buy the 2L jug. It's slightly cheaper than at Marathon which is also good. 2L carton is the best value. I usually buy on the 2L on weekends and drink a cup every morning. Not a coffee person. I tried their food and frankly I'll pass on those. HK fast street food is not my cup of tea. From the beginning to end the worker was grouchy, she was annoyed at how much change I used, which made no sense because it's still money, I almost left, but I wanted to try their food so I used a bill. This was my first time trying HK milk tea. It is a bit creamier, but lighter than Taiwanese milk tea. It also does not come with tapioca pearls. It was pretty good, but didn't come close to its award winning status. The downside is it only comes in one size, not even being filled up all the way. The product was slightly above average at best. However, if you are not local (as in my case) you may experience some attitude from the boss lady. Overall, the service was terrible. I did not get the milk tea. I came for the curry fish/beef balls. They're $2.50 for 5, or $4 for 10. I got the $4 option. I asked for all beef balls, and just as I was about to ask for a mix of the two, the lady inside asked me if I could do a mix instead. It worked out, so that was all fine and dandy. The curry here is surprisingly aromatic. I would not liken this to Chinese curry. It smells more like a Malaysian or Indian curry? It's spicy, in a leaves-your-tongue-tingly-after-eating kinda way. I liked the fish balls more than the beef balls (unusual for me). They've got a nice texture while being soft. I gave my parents some as well, and my dad thought they were from that famous fish ball place in the Heritage Centre. That was kinda cool. read more
