So I had written a review on FoodMaxx one of our local grocery stores a couple months ago. Since that time I've been in the store a half dozen times. As I mentioned before, I have never seen anybody from the management team, walking the floor, checking the ad items talking to customers, etc.. the last three times in the store I could see that they only turn on half of the store lights on to save money. It's so dark inside the store completely ! The store honestly is like a frozen food locker. It is so cold in there and so dark.. I really can't believe that this company is part of Savemart or Luckys because the way this store is run and let go. It's an absolute dump. There's no other word for it except that all the other grocery stores in the area are maintained the people working there in management seem to be a tentative. The best part about this store is the loyal workers that put up with the BS that they have to on a daily basis. If I want to rate this stores, as a secret shopper they would fail they would clearly get an F. The employees would get an A because they are there trying their best under these BS conditions day after day putting up with the same thing that the customers have to put up with. What a F' en disgrace. Corporate and lack of onsite management complete failure!!! I love it when you write a survey about your experience, on Yelp the business will then write something generic reply that is not genuine like call this number and talk to CUSTOMER SERVICE or were sorry maybe next time there's only one time the time that we are in the business they try to make excuses and it's complete BS so let me get this straight. I need to get on the phone and call your corporate office to babysit you and your store and your location and the problems because you weren't man enough to handle it yourself and I have nothing better to do than to babysit you people.? Absolutely ridiculous a perfect example of Customer service business related failures!! These pictures that I posted were similar to the pictures that I had written maybe six months ago about this location. The bathroom are absolutely filthy. The on tights is a shoe string meaning that's not enough help. I've never seen the management walking the floor checking out the pro rates they add merchandise or even greeting. The customers there is no customer service except for the dedicated wonderful employees that have to work twice as much to make up for lack of staffing so that the upper management gets a nice lack of labor bonus!! Look below there is a generic comment just like I said this company does not care that their store looks like zhit they could care less! read more

I needed to head to the store for myriad veg and decided that I wanted to indulge my youthful urges and have a chuck steak. I have progressed to a point that bon in ribeye with beautiful marbling is the go to but I still have the urge of my youth including a box of Pasta-roni shells and white cheddar.... Yes I know I am ashamed but it brings me happiness. I went to foodmaxx and the veg was lacking today, the greenbeans which are normally in a box were nonexistent, the broccoli which I "fought" a lady that was plucking florets was alright but I just feel slighted after everything. I moved over to the steaks (the reason I was there) and found some thick chuck steaks and made everything better! I was happy there and ended up in the hot sauce isle cause that is my guilty pleasure and grabbed a Caribbean bottle to give a go! read more

Hello, currently staff are illegally requiring ID for zero alcohol purchases and are restricted from using the self-checkout for zero alcohol purchases. I experienced this when attempting to purchase Zero Alcohol Heineken which has 0.0% Alcohol (not to be confused by non-alcoholic beer which is 0.5% alcohol). Essentially you are restricted people from legally purchasing hoppy water, when you don't have the same restrictions on other zero alcohol soft drinks and kombacha. This is a customer rights violation so please fix the issue and train your staff. California Business and Professions Code § 23004 read more

I have been shopping at this store since it opened. I love shopping here and the staff is always so kind and helpful. It's always organized and pleasant to shop, no one breathing down your neck, but always there if you need them. I also love that they always have a cashier available, even at 6am, which is when I usually go to pick up something quick for my daycare. I hate using self checkout. Sad to know that someday tech will take over so many jobs. I do wish they had everything I needed, but I've never been to a grocery store that did. Thank you all for your service. read more

This FoodMaxx is an exception to the three reasons a house sells or a business thrives: location, location, location. It's not on I-80 or Sonoma Blvd, so it's going to be a little of a drive from wherever you are. But that weird location is not hurting it. After what was supposed to be a short walk with a house church friend in Benicia (turned into a longer one), I stopped by this store to pick up some food. I found a typical FoodMaxx, not any better or worse than the others. It has a LOT of the things you'll need, and a good helping of Mexican and Filipino offerings too. Large produce section. It's not a huge store, huge FoodMaxxes tend to be hard to navigate through the long, long aisles and this one's pretty simple. More room to maneuver in the back where the meats are. Because of its strange location, it doesn't have a big crowd. It has a large parking lot that's shared with a few other businesses, so parking is easy. Fewer registers, so it may get busy sometimes. FoodMaxx is not the place to get the trendy things that you've been told to get. It didn't even have the protein shake that the Hunny finds at the FoodMaxx close to our house. It's get your stuff and pay less than other places and get out. Which works for me. read more

Although Foodmax is not in my neighborhood, it is my "go to" store to find some ethnic food items, that aren't often found in the surrounding larger grocery stores. Service staff in the meat department are consistently helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. A negative for the store (from the buyer's perspective) are the long lines, yet despite this, I have always found the cashiers to be friendly. The best times to shop in this store are Monday through Thursday and before 10:30 am. My largest concern with this store is that VERY often I find "fresh" vegetable, bakery and meat items with expired dates. I usually have to sort through these items to find in-date products. This is a serious issue for management. I have not found this issue with canned or factory packaged foods in this store. read more

This place always has the cheapest groceries.The choice of fresh produce is usually really good and everything is relatively fresh. They usually have everything I need. Great deal on veggies. Luckily they have self check out here. I went to the Pinole Food Maxx, they only had 2 lines open and those lines were ridiculously long. Here the lines are also long but at least they have 4 self check outs. You wont be able to purchase alcohol or cigarettes at self check out. read more

So as I'm standing in the self checkout line, I notice out of the four registers only two are working. There is an older Asian couple with about 10-15 items to my right and there's four White teenagers together with about 6 items to my left and then there is the register station lady standing in front. While each set of customers were ringing their grocery items up, the watchful attendant lady stayed up front at her station casually talking to passersbys. Eventually, when it's my turn I walk to the register where the teenagers were ALONE with only 2 items in my hand (a pre-made salad and two pieces of ginger in a produce bag). As soon as I put the items on the register to ring, the station clerk lady immediately comes and stands right next to me on my left side. I look at her and say I only have 2 items and she responds with an "I know" Was a very weird situation because I came into that store with no purse or bags just my wallet and phone in hand, so I was very curious as to why I was getting the extra scrutiny? Because of the experience I probably won't be back plus their prices are ridiculously high anyway. read more

Most times I come here, everything is well stocked with Fresh Produce etc. Today? Not the case. Not the case AT ALL. Ice cream we bought? Looked like it was a return from someone who kept it in their freezer for 4 months. New ice cream with freezer burn?? Old or someone put it in their cart, walked around for 45 mins, then put it back and grabbed another one. Now I have to waste time driving back to replace this one. So much for a relaxing Sunday. Holy Hell the produce section had all kinds of old or "damaged" items. Fruits like apples were soft and the bananas were smushed and/or bruised. Carrots/Celery/Broccoli had that gray funk in the combination prepackaged trays. Disgusting. Their cereal section was equally trashed. Oatmeal boxes were opened. Remaining boxes were crushed/dropped so you could stick your fingers inside the tops of you wanted to for whatever reason. It was so bad that my GF and I had this realization that maybe supermarkets like Food Maxx buy their stock from larger food chains at a discount after the larger supermarket discards items that are beyond their Best Used By dates. Hmmm. Safeway isn't much farther away. I'll start going there instead. read more

Wasn't this Lucky? FoodMaxx the grocery store that isn't Safeway. This location can be crazy to shop inside. I never seen people crowd FoodMaxx getting great deal. Long lines to get check out here. Parking can be hard to find at this location. If you need the walk then come here but if you need to find a parking space near the door this wouldn't be the place to come to. read more

Horrible customers top the unpleasantness here. Wig pulling., moms screaming at kids . Just nasty. Customers who roam the isles and graze on packages of food then leave 1/2 eaten bags on shelves. I once went in and saw fried chicken bones all over the floor. Some decided to eat a bucket of chicken while they shopped and just threw everything on the floor. Theft of entire baskets of groceries by the same. Managers do nothing. Food quality. Poor . Veggies and meats often spoiled. read more

Price for food is really good. They just need a lot more cashiers. Been in line for over 20 minutes and still not even close to the cashier. Express line is even long. 3 cashiers at 1:25pm and 30 people in each line. Can they not see the lines are in the isles all the way to the back of the store? Produce is good and not close to being rotten. Meat is standard, no grass fed, choice or prime meat, just standard. Frozen selection - plenty. Some individual some bulk. If you are in a big rush I suggest you not come here unless you are a night owl or early bird. A lesson I still haven't learned. read more

FoodMaxx is conveniently located near my residence which is on the plus end when I need to get a few item pre-Covid-19. The store is decently stocked and the prices are affordable compared to other groceries. Present time I mostly get my groceries delivered due to Covid-19. When I used to go in the store previously they NEVER have shopping carts upfront. You'll have to go inside the store and find one yourself. And the rare ones you do happen to find outside the wheels are usually locked. I also stopped going in because once the wear your mask rule was placed, the store was NOT enforcing it! People go in and out without a mask. As a business establishment for all ages FoodMaxx management and employees should take this seriously and announce to all customers the mask rule. This is NOT following the Covid-19 guidelines. It also puts a risk to the management, employees and customers. I do hope FoodMaxx management and employees do take this seriously. They are risking their own health and others. read more

What more can I say about FoodMaxx, other than I'm glad to have a grocery store just around the block? Well, I guess I better say more than that. I wasn't sure what to really expect from this place. The only thing I knew about it was that it was similar to Food 4 Less. That is to say, groceries that you pretty much bag yourself. Decent prices too. I'm guessing that's how they keep their prices low. Well, FoodMaxx is indeed the same in that regard, however they also have baggers if you have a lot of groceries AND they've also got self-checkout. I'm a HUGE fan of self-checkout and not many stores in Vallejo have it. When I don't have many items, it is extremely convenient. I go in, get my stuff, head to self-checkout, and I'm outta there in a jiffy. Love that junk to death! Self-checkout love aside, they've got great prices on nearly everything. They also have an 8 piece fried chicken for about 5 bucks that tastes great and, heck, that's a pretty darn good deal for 5 bucks. They're bakery is also a nice spot for sweets. They've got delicious tres leches cake, a big ol' square slice for only $1.99. A hard deal to beat for sure. I also like that this store is well organized. Food 4 Less is a bit too cavernous for my tastes. This FoodMaxx, more or less, keeps the same floor plan as the Lucky supermarket that it used to be. All in all, I'm really happy with this supermarket. I'm definitely going to be a regular here. read more

5 stars for the excellent prices, and for having items in stock when other local stores are sold out. One star for always having long lines and too few cashiers. Some things are cheaper here, but not all. I came across a few produce that were dollar plus cheaper than what you find at other commercialized grocers. On the other hand, things like beer or charcoal was not really a steal. So don't expect prices to be unbeatable. They had a freezer entirely dedicated to Filipino favorites like lumpia, tocino, longaniza, ube ice cream, etc. It's not surprising given that Vallejo Pinoys aren't minorities in this city. They also have an aisle for Hispanic goods as well. Catering to a diverse customer base is great! Ever seen that Hoveround commercial with that silly song? Tom Kruse, Founder and President ring a bell? I couldn't help but to hear that jingle looping in my head. Many were on the courtesy powered wheelchairs and I don't think it was due to a disability. FoodMaxx doesn't have the everything I want but the produce section is better than any other grocery store in town. For example, Safeway's zucchini is more twice the price for half the quality. Peppers are old and disgusting at Safeway, FoodMaxx has crisp peppers. Bananas at Safeway are old, FoodMaxx slightly green. I never find products on the shelf at FoodMaxx that are beyond their "best by date". The people at FoodMaxx are friendly and not sad/depressed like at Safeway. FoodMaxx is clean and worthy of your patronage. read more

Food Maxx is where I shop in this town. Why you ask, well cause you get more for less! For example, I bought 4 one liter bottles of Ginger Ale for 69 cents. I was stoked when I seen this so you bet I stocked up. This store reminds me of a bulk grocery store. Very nice and spacious. HInt hint try not to shop the weekends unless you like crowds. Also you gotta bag your own groceries so bring you own. You get credit for that. Don't forget to "Maximize your shopping power Food Maxx" ! Bargains galore at this store. read more

I have shopped at a minimum if 3 other Food Maxx's and this Vallejo store will make it my 4th Food Maxx store. Whike staying in town to house sit for fora friend, I didn't want to go to the Safeway in town based on bad reviews and didn't want to drive to the American Canyon Safeway so I decided to shop here since I am familiar with this particular chain of stores. I didn't look at one of the employee name badge that was stocking on the floor on the dog aisle but he was super nice and knew exactly what aisle the better than buillion was and the exact section it was. He was about 6 foot, white and brown hair with a slightly grown out buzz cut in blue jeans. They were a bit picked out but granted I came In around 7:30 and the night swing shift crew was just starting a d about to stock. No biggie because I found what I needed for the couple days I'm in town. My cashier, Taylor, was super sweet and nice. She had the right amount of things to to say in the short time it took her to check me out. Because of the gentleman stocker and Taylor, I will definitely be coming back again when I'm in town again! read more

For a store that Prides itself with high-quality food especially especially Specialty Foods like gluten free and vegan I see very few sugar-free items especially in the cake and baking aisle why isn't there a large selection of sugar free cake mix yellow and chocolate. Pillsbury carries sugar free chocolate and yellow cake mix brownie mix and bread mix along with chocolate and vanilla frosting you need to start carrying that there are more people who are sugar intolerant then there are people who are gluten intolerant please make space for those above items thank you read more

I've become a huge fan of this FoodMaxx since discovering it last year. I am personally tired of being at the mercy of Raley's and Safeway's never ending increasing prices and dwindling selections. Especially since the Raley's in Benicia recently completed their "wanna be" Whole Foods Market remodeling! My 30+ years of loyalty has waned since they have forsaken us to solicit the gluten/vegan/organic cult folk. With a little patience and planning, a quick trip to Vallejo 2-3x a month makes a huge difference. We end up saving as much as $40 to $60 per trip. Plus, they have super fast motorized go carts for my disabled mother which makes her smile and shopping a breeze. They have great sales and a surprisingly awesome produce department. Consistently fresh fruit and veggie options with super low prices. I have yet to be disappointed with anything from the produce department. The Bakery offers many fresh and sweet options to consider. The meat department can be hit or miss. Sale items sell out insanely quick, so hit those up early in the day. Dairy department is awesome as well with plenty of selections and has the lowest prices of all competitors in my opinion. My only disappointments have been the lack of open lanes during peak times, the self check out kiosk's close way too early in evenings, and help can be hard to find in the isles when you have questions. Overall, definitely worth the effort to check it out and save big! Who cares if you have to bag your own groceries. Highly recommended and happy shopping! =] read more
