I completely forgot that I had brought my lunch to work today and instead went out. Lucky for me Love Park had the Foolish Waffles Truck because I had one of the best meals I've had in a while. There were five others waiting for their orders, and I gazed at the menu. I've always heard of chicken and waffles, but have never tried it. This was my choice. I chose wisely. The boneless fried chicken breast was light and delicate and not greasy. The slaw was not too dry or runny with sauce. The candied jalapeño peppers should have been more plentiful on top, but I liked the slices I got. The waffle, although not crunchy or crispy, and actually a little mushed, had outstanding flavor and surprisingly complemented the chicken and slaw. I was blown away how good it was and a decent sized portion. They have others like an Italian, and a Vietnamese version of waffles with stuff. Additionally, that have the sweet waffles with fruit toppings. This was a definite 5-star lunch today! $12 for the fried chicken and waffles. Tried this food truck for the first time. I was told how amazing it was. I must say, I agree with the food being amazing. They put plenty of chicken on the waffle and the waffle and chili honey were very tasty. I do wish I added syrup, because the honey had evaporated into the waffle by the time I walked back to eat. I did deduct a star because we waited over twenty minutes for our food to cook. This is problematic when on a lunch break from work. I wish there was a way to call in the order beforehand and pick it up. They do take credit cards, with a $0.50 fee. I would def try it again, but would be prepared for the long wait. read more

This is definitely one of the most interesting food trucks I've encountered in Philly. The waffles may be foolish, but there is method to their madness. The waffles are Belgian style, with more of a bounce to their texture than regular waffles. The menu listed 8 delicious varieties (both sweet and savory), and I had to try very hard to resist getting them all at once. I ended up with 2 kinds: a savory and a sweet (for dessert). The Crispy Chicken & Waffle ($9) was great. The boneless buttermilk fried chicken was crispy, topped with a sweet glaze, cabbage slaw, and jalapeno slices. The size was good for lunch, and it was an interesting rendering of chicken and waffles. The waffle texture was softer so it could wrap around the contents. The Liege waffle ($5) was also conceptually great, albeit a bit dry and tough. My guess is that the one I received was not completely fresh, but I imagine if I did have a fresh one (especially with some of the sweet toppings listed) it would be amazing, as it is encrusted by a partially caramelized layer of sugar. OMG OMG OMG!!!!! So this was totally worth the 45min-hour wait in the drizzling rain. Came back again last week because I saw that they were only in Love Park once this month, so I had to jump at the opportunity. I went all out and ordered 2 different types of waffle. One dessert and the other savory! Banh Mi pork belly waffle - probably the best waffle I have ever ever eaten in my life. The waffle with slaw, sriracha, jalepanos, creamy sauce, and the flavorful pork belly was HEAVEN. I devoured it. I first tried to eat it like a sandwich by picking it up, but it kinda fell apart, so I grabbed a fork. The fork wasn't getting it into my mouth fast enough, so back to the hands! I did not care how messy it got, I just cared about how wonderful it tasted in my mouth. Sweet n Salty waffle - Again, it was delicious, but after eating the banh mi waffle, I couldn't even finish half. The pork belly banh mi waffle is soo stupid good! I am the biggest opponent of Asian fusion but Foolish Waffles has managed to prove me wrong. The fresh waffle and seared pork belly totally school the traditional crumbly baguette and ambiguous meat product. Even though the banh mi is highly altered, you still get the iconic pickled veggies and sliced jalapenos. It is an elevated version of the banh mi that is actually better than the original. Yeah, I went there. Of course, it's impossible to have perfect food come out of a truck. The waffle was flavorless and became soggy after 10 minutes. While the pickled red cabbage was a nice touch, it needed to be pickled longer to stand up to the savory pork belly and spicy jalapeno slices. Overall though it was excellent. If you're like me, when you first think of a fried chicken waffle sandwich, you're hoping for crispy, juicy, flavorful chicken atop a lightly crisp waffle. This one checked all the boxes. The chicken was perfectly fried and very crunchy outside, with a nice seasoning but, in my opinion, just a little too sweet. I'd have hoped for a little more spice to offset what I think was intended to be something reminiscent of maple syrup; it wasn't overpowering by any means, but to me needed a spicy counterbalance. Yes, there are pickled jalapeno slices, but that doesn't quite do it, so add some of their hot sauce they offer on the side. The chicken was perfectly cooked and not the least bit dry. And the coleslaw was a great accompaniment. The waffle itself was very good, and particularly light. These kinds of waffle sandwiches are always hard to eat because the waffle breaks apart as you eat it and isn't really foldable to begin with, and that was the case here, but I'm young, I can handle life's challenges like this. I got here shortly after 12:00pm and there was already a decent amount of people at the truck. I could tell right off the bat that this was clearly a popular spot for lunch. I did some research on the truck beforehand and knew that they had an item on their menu called the Fried Chicken and Waffle. I've been aware of the chicken and waffles trend for quite some time but can honestly say that I've never tried this combination for myself. I'm not sure why but I'm guessing it just didn't peak my interest when I first heard about it back in college. After I saw this item at the top of their menu and read some of the reviews online, I figured it was finally time to give this a try. This appears to be one of the most popular items on their menu because the next three people to arrive ordered it as well. While $12.00 seemed a little pricey at the time, the size of their portions makes it all worth it. I think I waited about 10 to 15 minutes for my food, but there were a few other people waiting ahead of me so it didn't seem like that long. When I sat down to eat, I was very impressed with the presentation. On top of the waffle were fried chicken thighs glazed with chili honey. On top of that was a pile of coleslaw and pickled jalapeños. Chicken and waffles was interesting enough but coleslaw and jalapeños take it to the next level. I've been told the best way to eat chicken and waffles is to make sure you're combining the two with each bite. The waffle was light and fluffy, just like a waffle should be, but the chicken was what really blew me away. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and the perfect combination of sweet and savory when you factor in the chili honey. Combine this with the coleslaw and jalapeños and you've got yourself a very interesting combination. The Foolish Waffle truck comes to my neighborhood once a week for our local farmer's market. I was a little hesitant to go at first, but tried my first Wagle a couple of weeks ago. Now, I'm hooked and try to go every week it's nearby. My go-to is the everything wagle with cream cheese, cucumbers, and pickled veggies. It's tasty, light, and the perfect brunch food. I am going to say this, and by now everyone should know my love for Nutella. I've been let down before...but not this time! This thing was amazing! The chicken was cooked perfectly. Juicy, light, nice skin...the combination of flavors was outstanding! The Jalapenos add a little kick to the sweetness of the waffle and it comes together so well. The waffle folds in half so you can make a messy sandwich. I did need a fork to finish up. They have several sweet and savory items on the menu, I wanted to come back for the Ghost(Liege sugar waffle, sweetened condensed milk, mascarpone cream, blueberries) but they sold out of the sweet stuff early. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is because it was pricey for the quantity at 13$. This could be to blame on the Mann Center where the truck was last night for the Phish concert, I'm not sure what kind of fees they need to pay to sell there, but it's 4.50 more at the Mann than on their website. The ingredients in mine all fit so well together. The waffle ain't no ordinary waffle, either. The waffles and toppings here are absolutely perfect. I had the Chicken & Waffles and Sweet-n-Salty Waffle. I'm from the south and have had a lot of fried chicken and waffles, and this actually tops anything I've tried before. The chicken was ridiculously crispy and perfectly fried/flavorful, and the chicken part was juicy and tender. The accompanying slaw/pickles added the perfect tangy accompaniment, and the sauce was amazing as well and paired perfectly with the whole ensemble. The waffle itself was also perfect. Crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside, with a subtle buttery flavor. The Sweet-n-Salty Waffle was just as amazing. Mascarpone was super creamy, salted caramel sauce was deeply caramelized and buttery, went perfectly with the salt and crunchy toffee. Don't pass up this truck if you ever run into it. I went to the food truck when they were stationed at Love Park, or what is left of Love Park. Ha ha. I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken on a waffle. Let me say, not only am I hooked, my coworker is looking for their return to Love Park. It is definitely a pleasant twist to the normal trucks at the location and was a welcome change. Who says you cannot have waffles for lunch? The chicken had the perfect crispiness, was moist and the waffle seemed to have the sweetness baked into it; no need to add syrup. Last night I had the pleasure of a Foolish Waffles experience at an event. On my way from work, I was most looking forward to doing the pictures on here justice. Because who wouldn't want to dine on a Belgian-style waffle with eggs and sausage, or go exotic with their take on Bahn Mi? As soon as I arrived, I asked the gentleman in the truck if any special waffles were still available. Although he answered no, I did see him hand two other customers that kind. Okay, I missed it by a few minutes, although I did order a Liège waffle with Nutella and Speculoos (no Marscapone whipped cream left), plus a Zucchini bread to share at home. Next to Nina's Waffles (New Hope and Doylestown), Foolish's are five stars (and so was the Zucchini bread)! Where my four stars are concerned is more of a guideline: My friends told me as soon as I sat down how difficult it was for FW to keep its ingredients in stock. At one point the workers took orders so that another could leave to restock all the way in Philadelphia! An hour and a half later, the truck was reopened, which made sense as to why the two customers I mentioned earlier received the special waffles. I completely understand that things happen, yet this is the *second* time FW has been at this location, so it's not like the influx of customers threw them for a loop. That doesn't take away from the taste or the quality of the product, although I feel it *does* affect the overall customer experience when they see what FW's offers on their Facebook, Twitter, etc. Otherwise, I was pleased. The perfect banh mi relies on a combination of hot and cold, spice and vinegar and the crisp crust of a light and airy warm french style bread. This place gets it all perfect even if it is the craziest version I have ever had. Pork belly served on a hot waffle with the perfect amount of pickled slaw and cilantro. You can't go wrong. Ten minutes in, they came out and erased chicken and waffles from their menu cause they were out, so I went with the sweet and salty. What's a "sweet and salty" you ask? It's a waffle with bacon toffee, black pepper, mascarpone whipped cream, caramel, and sea salt. Basically one of the best waffles I've ever had. Worth the wait in line. I checked out their calendar and looks like they are at Chestnut Hill Farmer's Market every Saturday till mid-November and at various events around the city during the rest of the month. I was so excited to finally get to try this food truck when it came to The Porch at 30th St. Unfortunately that excitement was short lived. I ordered the chicken and waffle and knew I was in for a disappointment when I grabbed the container and it was really light...unusually light, especially since there was supposed to be fried chicken in there. When I opened it up I understood. There was my waffle, with two small pieces of chicken...almost like large chicken nuggets...sitting on top. The slaw just looked like cabbage, and there were a few jalapeños. I dug in. First thought: it's dry. This thing needs syrup or something. Second thought: the bourbon slaw has Zero flavor. It was cabbage, and it tasted like cabbage. The chicken was good but the waffle was also rather flavorless. The entire thing was disappointing. ***update: I just read some other reviews and it appears my waffle was missing a component. Others talk about a sauce or glaze that was on theirs...mine definitely did not have it. Perhaps that's the ingredient that ties it all together?*** Even more disappointing? So, Foolish has only been in the streets for a few weeks now, but I am already hooked. Tried them out today at Manayunk Streat Fest and I was pleased. As I've mentioned before, fried chicken & waffles are one of my favorite things to eat and they executed it well. I tried the Fried Chicken & Waffles w/ Sausage Gravy & the Strawberry & Creme Waffle. Both were excellent. The fried chicken was cooked well..nice and crispy, but not too greasy, and the maple syrup drizzled on top set off the flavor perfectly, although I had to ask them to drizzle a little extra on it. The strawberry and creme waffle was tasty also. It featured a nice marscapone whipped cream that I really enjoyed. Foolish offers two different style of Belgian waffles- a Brussels style (light, airy and crispy w/a subtle vanilla flavor) and the Liege style- which is the "sugar waffle", sweet and crispy, akin to brioche. They even let you add in cool things like fruity pebble pieces and candied bacon. I am VERY excited about this new addition to the Philly food truck scene. If there was any downside, it would be that they use boneless chicken thighs instead of boneless breasts. Iv'e been wanting to try Foolish Waffles for a while now and it was worth the wait. The waffles are made in house, and they have a good recipe for the batter. The waffles have a nice crisp to them and a good flavor on their own. Fried chicken and waffle was very good. The chicken was juicy and the outside was crisp. It paired well with the waffle, making a great sandwich. It tasted like there was a little pit of honey on the waffles, I put a bit of sriracha on there, it miked well with all of the flavors. The pork belly banh mi was tasty. Obviously not super traditional, but I thought that the taste went well with the waffle. I think that there could have been more pork belly in there, but not bad at all. Looking at the pictures, and from what I was told, the serving size that I got at the night market were smaller than what you would typically get if you were ordering from this truck. Why is this food so delicious?!!! This is a meal you will remember for days after. FW is an instant addiction. This was my 1st visit to FW at Love Park. I am in love. I thought I was just going to get a sweet dish but I couldn't resist a savory as well. The line was crazy long - the wait in line was exceptional (good indication). However, the time you placed your order until it was filled was very reasonable. I ordered the Pork Belly Bahn Mi waffle. It was luscious and a party in my mouth. The pickled veg were the right texture and brightness to the rich, delicious fattiness of pork belly. The flavors were fresh & popped. WOW! Then I finished with the Sweet & Salty dessert liege waffle. Who knew heaven could be wrapped in a liege waffle. The mascarpone whip cream was beautiful - billowy, silken - I could eat a whole bowl of that. The bacon toffee, caramel, sea salt - this dessert was a symphony of food. I'm addicted & going through withdrawal waiting for them to return. The staff was super friendly and enjoyed what they did. My only minor critique is I would like the pork Bahn mi sandwich filled more with the pickled vegs... I will request more next time. This is some serious fresh, delicious food! WOW! I'm rating this based on their food truck for the Chinatown night market this past Thursday. I was super excited about savory waffles when I walked by on Thursday since this was a new concept to me. I only recently started eating chicken and waffles at brunch so I was looking forward to a new culinary experience. I ordered the bahn mi waffle with pork belly which is essentially a Belgium waffle sandwich with the pickled veggies and pork belly.The pork belly, I LOVE pork belly, definitely lived up to its name. It was cooked perfectly and thoroughly. Lastly, the waffle was nice a crispy which gave it a nice crunch, but still soft in the middle. There was a spicy sauce with the veggies which had a nice kick. One of the top 10 things I've ever eaten. Got the fried chicken waffle in Chestnut Hill-7/19/14. Perfect blend of flavors, crunchy slaw, little heat, little salt, little sweet. The first time I tried fried chicken on a waffle was the Foolish food truck version. I will not be trying many others because theirs is pretty tasty and this is not a dish that will be entering my regular meal rotation. The Foolish version includes tasty and freshly-fried boneless pieces of battered chicken (did not check to see the ratio of dark meat to white meat because I like them both), fresh, crunchy, and light slaw, and a few hot pepper slices on top of a large, though relatively thin, freshly made and slightly sweet waffle. The fried chicken is good and the combination works well, though I would prefer mine spicier. Price seems average for food trucks - $8.50. Wait time from order to receipt was under ten minutes. The waffles are provided in recyclable paper containers (yay!). Their sweet waffles look good and might be worth a try some day. read more

I wouldn't be shy to proclaim that I'm one of Foolish Waffles' biggest fans. I remember trying them last year at LOVE park. I waited 30 minutes to place an order, and about 15 minutes for my food. (Yes, that's how long the lines get). I was bummed because it had taken up almost all of my lunch time, but when I had my first bite of the Tofu Banh Mi Waffle, OMG! All my anger melted, and I was so happy. But as I finished my waffle in about 44 seconds, I was angry again on why did it end already! Everything from the taste, the ingredients, and the presentation is 5*. For the sweet stuff, I would recommend their Brussels waffle over Liege. Liege has a slightly bitter taste from the "more cooked" sugar. For sweets, I generally go with nutella with berry compote. Also, I would say that if you are not usually the one who can be full with a salad, 1 waffle will not fill you up. I usually get 1 Tofu BM and 1 sweet waffle to share with my friend. 1.5 is just the right amount! When I got there I was informed that they were still waiting on the chicken so I couldn't get the chicken and waffles. That's exactly what I wanted to get, so that was one strike. My first ever taste of chicken & waffles and I'm a fan! Chicken was not dried out like fried chicken often is, and the chili-honey glaze gave it a nice sweet bite.
