Before surgery

I went to go see Dr. Samantha Sklar after listening to a radio commercial. I was very skeptical regarding the bunion surgery. I heard horror story and certainly did not want to be one of them. After speaking with Dr. Samantha Sklar, I felt very comfortable and at peace with my decision to continue with the procedures. I had bunion surgery on my right foot the middle of April at the Oak Brook location. A month later, I had surgery at the Schaumburg location for my left foot. Having my surgery done at the Schaumburg location was much much MUCH easier. You get there, the nurses take you to the back part of the building, they sit you in a chair and start doing the work. You wake up, the nurses walk you to the lobby where you meet your ride and walk right to your car. You don't need to change your clothing or any of those shenanigans. Simple, fast and easy. Oak Brook on the other hand, makes you come earlier, can't have your nails painted, make you wear a hospital gown, shoes and hair net. The surgery is performed in a huge room that is cold as heck and supper scary. They keep you there for an hour after you wake up and send and outrageous bill to your insurance company. My suggestion is to opt for the Schaumburg location, much much easier and all of the staff is super friendly. My surgeries where no where near as painful as I expected. I walked to the car on both instances. For the next 3 days, after my surgery, I watched Netflix and stayed in bed, icing and elevating my foot. I returned to work on the 4th day both times. The healing process was much simpler than what I expected. I noticed my progression everyday. Now that my right foot is healed, my scar is not visible nor noticeable. You don't have to worry about having a huge ugly scar. Both of my surgeries where performed by Dr. Keith Sklar and Dr. Samantha Sklar. They are both amazing at what they do. I do not regret at all getting my surgeries. I would definitely recommend Foot First Podiatry to anyone looking for excellent results.

Can you still wear heels after this surgery?

Hi! Heels can be worn 3 to 4 months after surgery and Wedges in 2 months. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions please email us at office@footfirst.com or by calling 847-352-9221. Thanks!

How soon after surgery would I be able to wear a heel? I'm trying to decide on a Spring or Fall procedure.

Hi! I can tell you most patients - on average - are back in a heel within 3 to 4 months. Please know though without seeing your foot or knowing the exact procedure you would be having I can’t promise that. If you have any additional questions please… Read more

He was in pain, uncomfortable and barely sleeping during the night. Our vet refused to operate because of the size and the location of the tumor. The doh also has a heart murmur, which would make a surgery more complicated. He sent us home with painkillers telling us to keep him comfortable for the short amount of time he has left. The front desk staff and the PT reviewed my doctor's notes and told me the visit would be "a hundred-something dollars" billed to insurance, with me responsible for 20%. Based on that, I agreed to proceed. Instead, they billed my insurance $360, leaving me with a much higher out-of-pocket cost. When I called billing, the manager said I must have misunderstood and claimed they don't give estimates, refused to check with the staff who gave me the quote, and told me to contact my insurance. I was also warned the balance could be sent to collections. This felt like a bait-and-switch, and the customer service was very disappointing. I won't be returning and recommend getting everything in writing before starting treatment. They billed 3 codes for every 15 min spent there, Therapeutic Procedures 97112- $126, Neuromuscular reeducation 97112 $70 & Therapeutic activities 97530- $162.00. Hope this helps anyone who's considering PT at this place.

I've experienced complications such as fat necrosis and an ear infection following the procedure. The ear infection was directly related to the permanent suture that was left at the incision site, requiring frequent follow-up visits every 1-2 weeks for removal. These visits were quite painful as no numbing was used. I left the office crying every time. I've had some issues with communication and support from the office. After filing a complaint with the hospital, they recommended that I bring my husband to my next appointment. However, when we arrived, they did not allow him to accompany me into the room. I've never had issues with doctors in the past, but I found Dr. Placik's demeanor with no compassion. Post-op he was extremely rude, mean and dismissive. You can walk in with lab orders and they will take you in the order of check-in time. Their phlebotomists are good, and results come in quickly. As for the ER, they seem to have a lower staffing level. I think part of this is I heard they are no longer a trauma center. If that is the case, I understand their reduction in staff. As with most ERs, wait times can be outrageous. I brought someone in who was in terrible pain - 10 out of 10 on their scale. How much pain you are in doesn't seem to matter in their triage. We waited a very long time before we were finally taken back. Once in an ER room, the service was outstanding. The quality of the nurses and the ER doctor were top notch. When we left, the medical issue was resolved, and although it is cliche, we had service with a smile. Aside from the wait time in the ER, Endeavor seems to have kept the quality of care up to par.

When I did my initial research and consultation, I was very impressed by Dr Dillion's level of professionalism, knowledge and expertise. Elizabeth is AH-MAZING at taking care of client needs. She has a great disposition, she was available at all times for questions/concerns even via her personal cell. I'm grateful I found their team to service the changes I wanted to see in my body.
