My boyfriend and I did 60-minute massages here recently, and overall, I would say the experience was mostly pleasant. Good quality massage, decent atmosphere, friendly service. The good: - Was able to get an appointment 2 days ahead of time, no problem. In fact, when we went in, we were the only ones in the place for the first 45 minutes. - Effective massage. They offer Chinese-style massage, so if you're into that, this place is definitely for you. - Price. For the two of us, total cost was $120 for a full hour. The bad: - Not very private. Most of this place is one big open space. And even though they put us in "private" rooms, the door to the room was a curtain, so you could hear everything going on in the rest of the space (i.e. front desk staff chatting, other patrons talking, etc). - They interrupted us 15 minutes in to tell us their credit card machine was down and to ask if we had cash. This conversation could have (and SHOULD have) waited until we were done. read more

I am in town visiting my mom who recently had brain surgery. I took her to Foot Relaxation for massages and let them know her medical condition. The gentleman that did her massage was so kind and gentle that she fell asleep! She said it was the best massage she's ever had. The woman who did my massage also worked some miracles. I am pretty picky about my massages and I am always sore from lifting weights. She was incredible - got almost every knot out and I felt like a million bucks. All the other five-star reviews listed here as of this date are spot-on; they're what brought me to this location and it was exactly as I hoped/expected. Don't let the location (strip mall) or lack of decor fool you: this was worth every penny. Opted for a 1-hr combo massage (foot and body, clothing on) - today's price is $39.99. FOR REAL. Other packages that were longer in duration were more expensive but still a heck of a deal compared to other massage places around town... and those other places are good, but the quality for the value here is outstanding. If you don't mind that the location isn't decorated like an expensive spa then you absolutely can't go wrong. Atmosphere is quiet, relaxing - dim lighting, music playing quietly in the background. Staff are friendly and welcoming. You can have a massage with or without clothing. If you opt to wear clothing, wear something comfortable, maybe even a little stretchy if you can so they can get to your shoulders more easily. The body massage itself was great: firm pressure if you want it, lighter if you don't. I went with firm, and I'm glad I did ... lower back muscle issues that have plagued me for weeks feel like they've disappeared. The foot massage was the best I've ever had. A Chinese massage right here in Des Moines. I enjoyed it and the price was just right! 29.99 for a full hour. This isn't a ritzy day spa or anything fancy. Just a little shop owned by a Chinese owner who speaks a little English. The employees only know a little English too but know how to ask if the massage is ok. I didn't mind. The shop is very basic. The massage chairs are like stations behind the main lobby wall. There are three curtained rooms where I assume where people who want a full naked massage. Keep in mind: VERY SIMPLE set up. Lowly lit room for a quiet and serene feel. Traditional Chinese music playing in the background. The hospitality of everyone working there are really kind and gentle. Started off with a bamboo basin foot soak in warm water, even though I was clothed I was still covered with a towel. First was a face/head massage. (I should have washed my make up off my face before visiting because I could imagine the lotion used to massage my face was probably rubbing my foundation off.) The rest of the massage was very good! I told the English speaking owner the pressure I wanted and she translated it in Chinese to the massage tech (haha best title I could come up with that doesn't sound weird or disgusting) The only thing I could go without was the hard tapping after the massage tech would finish in a certain area. It completely startled me like, "whoa did you just hit me?!" LOL!! But it was fine, it wasn't terrible. My favorite parts were the foot soak, face massage, and the feet. Don't get me wrong the whole body was great but those areas were specifically targeted areas that the tech knew how to massage well. I fell asleep a couple times, that's how good it felt. After the massage they offered water immediately and were very kind. The owner asked if I wanted to make another appointment. I paid and went on my way. Simple, cheap, and great. Staff has knows limited English. Come here for low key and no frills massage. Place is not fancy by any means. Very basic spa surroundings. 2 - 60 min foot massage via groupon cost me $45. Took me and my mother on a Friday morning. Best bet is to make an appointment. If possible get the guy to do the massage. The lady who works there answers the phone and walk in customers. She ended up leaving my mom a few times during massage. Foot massage comes with foot soak. Head, face, leg, foot massage and then on the back all within 60 mins. Cannot beat the price. Mother and mother in law had the 60 full body massage the next day. You are fully clothed and both enjoyed it. Price was very good for the two massages. read more

From the outside this is place doesn't appear to be much. Inside you will have a bit of a language barrier, but the massage is amazing. The scalp massage feels great, then they work on my shoulders (my trouble spot). She puts just enough pressure to make it slightly uncomfortable but boy do you feel amazing by the end. You feet have been soaking, and now it is time for a foot massage that is out of this world! Finished up by a full body stretching massage. If I lived in Des Moines this would be a regular spot. While your feet are soaking, they massage your neck, hands, and arms. Nothing fancy about the decor, but they are kind and amazing at their job! This place is legit! I've been to a ton of these massage places where you think they are "Foot Massages" but they are really full body massages with your clothes on. I have to say I had the best massage at this place. I didn't give any direction, and I normally like my massages deep tissue and therapeutic. I was in need of massage at 4pm. I was referred to this place by chiropractor. They take walk ins, and the 1 hour foot/back massage was unbelievable!! As a regular client of deep tissue massage therapy, I had my doubts at first. But they know what they are doing her, the pressure was perfect, they found problem areas and really worked out the tension. I can't say how much I wish they were located where I live. I bought 2 Groupons for my husband and myself and I am very glad I did. Very hard to understand the English spoken there, but if you can get around that difficulty, you are in for a treat. I've had massages before, but never one that was to focus on the feet. Well, the focus isn't strictly feet; it was whole body, but the feet are definitely are major part. Wear comfortable clothes and easy to slip on footwear. You don't undress, but you want to be comfortable to lie on your back and for a short while, your front. Feet soak in warm water while the massage begins on your forehead and scalp. It moves on to the neck, shoulders and arms. By the time it moves on to your lower legs and feet, you'll wish it would never end! Full prices without the Groupon discount are very reasonable and we will definately return. Worst massage I have ever been given. First of all, no one at this place speaks enough English to actually know what you want done and actually no one even asked what my preferences were until 40 mins into the session. One of the workers ("Kevin") basically massaged my ear and toes for 15 minutes (even sticking his fingers inside my ear) and when the owner discovered he was not giving me what I wanted, they replaced him on the spot by this other Chinese guy. This last enough gave me such a hard "deep-tissue" massage that my hands and feet still hurt more than before, even two days later after the massage. I would certainly not recommend this place to anyone, since none of the people seem to know what a good massage really consists of. read more

I am thrilled to provide a recommendation for Foot Relaxation. I had lived in California where these foot massage places were everywhere. Inexpensive prices, you don't have to have an appointment....just pop in for some relief. I've been a massage therapist for 15 years and have spent hundreds of dollars trying to find a massage therapist here in Des Moines that knew how to work out knots with an elbow, stretch my body, and provide the pressure I was looking for. The decor is no-frills, but clean. They have only been open for a month, so aren't ready for groups yet, but they will add staff as they get busier. I FEEL AMAZING! So surprised to find such a great place here in Des Moines....so glad I took the chance on them today. I'm happy to do my part in helping them thrive....for purely selfish reasons because I will now be a regular here.
