It offers art classes for all ages, though I suspect most of its students are kids. My six-year-old Leo B. has become something of a regular, and he absolutely loves the place. For my part, I appreciate that there's always a camp available when I need it, sometimes even at the last minute. Popular classes sell out (if you want an anime/Pokémon/Hello Kitty kind of week, get on it), but most don't seem to reach capacity. There are camps for pretty much every school break, including one-day camps for various holidays. Parking is easy, as are drop-off and pick-up. Leo did one day camp last year, then two weeks of summer camp last month. He's a fairly shy kid, and was only willing to sign up because he had friends from school who would be with him. I was pleasantly surprised when he requested to come back for a second week this summer, knowing he wouldn't have any friends in that class. Artist Lab has different themes for each week, and he went for under the sea and pop art. There were different teachers rotating in and out, and to be honest, I never really talked to any of them, though they all seemed quite nice. I dealt with all the administrative stuff through text and email and enjoyed getting photo updates in the text thread. Leo had fun every day, and came home with all kinds of artwork that we're now stuck with until all parties are willing to get rid of them. He made sculptures and paintings and even sewed a little fish. I also liked that he got to learn a little about pop art after a somewhat difficult visit to the Tate Modern earlier in the month. I'm sure we'll be back to Artist Lab next summer, and possibly earlier. Leo will ask for it, and before long, his brother will want in on the action.

This location is at the beautiful Turning Point School in Culver City, adjacent to Surfas, and the metroline. The parking lot is small but the staff were great at directing traffic and getting everyone in and out. They ask you to walk your child for check-in on the first day, and then your child may be dropped off at valet on the subsequent days. Pick-up is always inside and you must show ID (nice safety measure). My daughter made a vacuum and was so excited to share her experiences each afternoon at pick up. She also had an unfinished (?) nightlight in her bag on her last day. We purchased the extended care for the week (because we work full-time regular office hours and planned to have our daughter there from 8-6). The last day (Friday) had a "closing ceremony" at 2:30 PM. I was disappointed because we weren't aware of this at enrollment. It was very difficult to attend and the entire camp literally closed down afterwards. Luckily I got the day off, but otherwise, my daughter would have been "stuck" there until 6 and it really did feel like they were "done". Most of the kids already had a mindset that they were done and packed, and the staff seemed to be ready to say goodbye as well. Meals and snacks are not included - bummer! Choicelunch, a hot food delivery service is available. One other disappointment for me - I decided to change locations (from Culver City to Brentwood) because of the commute and was charged a fee. Culver City was already waitlisted, so in my opinion, I just freed up another spot for them and shouldn't have accrued a charge. The customer service representative told me that it "takes a lot of work" to exchange locations but I just don't understand it. Galileo is new to So Cal and I would expect them to make some exceptions, especially if I'm helping them out (by freeing up a space). It's difficult to say if we'll return to Galileo next year. My daughter enjoyed it but she has enjoyed all the other camps she's attended. She's got an outgoing and fun personality, and she doesn't have difficulty meeting friends and enjoys challenges. There are other camps in LA that are also fun, offer meals and/or snacks and are less expensive.

My kids have been going here for 10 years and they LOVE it! When they came back from their first…read moresummer in 2015, ages 8 and 11, they were singing all the songs and telling me stories and they couldn't wait to get back the following summer. Actually, the camp also has programming throughout the year so they spend time with their camp friends year-round, but summer is when the magic really happens. They started with short sessions and then increased to full summer, and now they both work on staff. The camp is run like a kibbutz, the campers and young staff are responsible for everything from programming to life guarding to cooking to cleaning the bathrooms. It's an incredible leadership development model - the kids aren't just learning about leadership, they're doing it. Also fantastic social justice education, designed and led by the young people. They are masters at experiential education - the campers are having so much fun I'm not sure they always realize they're learning. And the site is gorgeous, on top of a mountain in Big Bear, completely off the grid. The kids are all in nature. There's a lake for kayaking too. Amazing camp.

They love the Beverly Hills staff, so when the early bird registration opens in December, I do my best to register as soon as it does. The courses can fill up quickly, so it is best to get in fast. They have always had a generous cancellation policy, so if our plans have to change, they can without penalty. We will build our summer plans around our PB schedule -that is how much my kids love this camp. While it is a tech-focused camp, the courses are updated every year, and it does make tech more accessible. My kids are getting great exposure to what I believe could be their future. My older child has aged out, but he will get to return for a couple of weeks as an honorary CIT. We look forward to when he can become a true Planet Bravo CIT.

I witnessed that firsthand when my kid enrolled in Iverbe's Sat morning basketball league as a total newbie and I noticed that none of his teammates ever picked on him for ... let's put it gently, "lacking skills". After the first game, my husband and I winced, raced off to buy basketballs and an air pump, and rolled our neighbor's hoop into our driveway for weekly practice. His loyal servants at his service! There's no fairytale ending here, but my son got a little better, and what I remember most is how playful the kids were during practice, letting each other learn at their own pace. No negative attitudes, no name-calling, no finger-pointing. Fortunately, my son reported the same experience at Iverbe's summer camp.
