Saturday Feb 1st, Tony and I was checking out some State Parks doing our hiking thing when we ran across this "DIAMOND in ROUGH"...This Jewel is a two story building built 122 yrs ago in 1892. There are two sets of double doors off the long front porch, but the ones near the steps on the Left if you are looking at the front of the store is the one you enter through. Several older men were sitting on the porch talking and enjoying the 60 degree weather...and they were very friendly. Spoke to them a few minutes before heading in. Once I opened that door, I felt like I was stepping back in time...The smell of the Wood burning stove sent a wiff up my nose...and for a minute I felt like I was home..home at great grandma's house..I love that SMELL... Inside the store, it was jammed back with anitques (( old bottles and lard buckets)) and the selves were full of tourist items like magnets, cups, etc. There were several men in the back sitting near the old pot belly talking and several at the table playing cards. The ladies behind the counter we cooking up a storm...I could smell ham frying, saw her grilling some buns, and the other lady was making some soup of some sorts. There was homemade fudge behind the old glass counter ( a real true antique in itself)..I loved this store... I will definitely go back here again on my way through the area. I recommend it to anyone that really TRULY enjoys a piece of History!!! STEPPING BACK in TIME!!!! The front porch has antique wood carved statues.. very nice!!!

I stopped here along with a group of 12 other women who were venturing out from glamping at Dale Hollow. The place looked interesting and was down the hill from the Home of Roger Crouch Astronaut sign, so it's got to be worth stopping to visit, right? You're right as long as you never step foot into the store. We enjoyed posing for pictures with the carved animals and indians on the front porch, but inside was a whole other story. It was dark and a bit creepy. There were racks of souvenirs so thick with dust that they might have been there since the 80's. There was some novelty candy in plastic buckets that were of questionable age, as well. There were men milling about but no one behind the register. The smell of burning wood (presumably in a fireplace that I didn't see) was a nice scent, but I didn't want to stick around just because the place didn't smell bad. I'm not really sure what goes on in the store. The group of women I was with seem to think that it's a hang out for men to do whatever it is that men do when they aren't with their wives, but I didn't stick around to find out.

Probably one of my favorite places ever! I love the old country feel, fun atmosphere, and great food. I will definitely be back.

Quaint hometown store off HWY 127, old fashioned with charm. Love stopping here during 127 yard sale and getting some ice cream

The little white building on 4th Street still wears its vintage RC Cola sign like a badge of honor, and the moment you push open the door, that familiar sizzle of burgers hitting the oil hits you like a hug from your childhood. We slid onto the stools at the old horseshoe counter, the same one I remember from when I was a kid, and watched the magic happen right in front of us. Patties kissed with bread for that impossibly soft center, fried in the shallow oil until the edges turned perfectly crisp and golden. My cheeseburger arrived "unsquoze," glistening and glorious, layered with that signature tangy sauce, crisp pickles, and onions that somehow make everything sing. One bite and I was twelve years old again--only this time I got to share it with my own family. The new owners have kept every bit of what made Dovie's legendary. Same perfect burgers. Same simple, soulful menu. Same feeling that you're exactly where you're supposed to be. My kids devoured theirs with the same wide-eyed joy I used to have, and we left with full hearts and fingers still a little greasy in the best possible way. Dovie's isn't just a burger joint. It's a living piece of Tompkinsville history that still tastes like home. If you've never been, go. If you grew up on these burgers, go back. It's every bit as wonderful as you remember.

This was our second & last attempt. After our last review on FB Derek the owner reached out & asked…read morethat we give them a second chance, so we did. We got there a little after 7 tonight & it wasn't overly packed but it was busier than the last time we were there. We waited over 35 minutes for our appetizer, the cheesy shrimp rolls. At this point my friend Charity Cruz called our server over to ask how much longer it would take. There was absolutely NO communication from our server prior to this. She said she would check, she came back & said there were two tickets ahead of us & it would be a 5-10 minute wait. So in other words she forgot to put the order in, because 10 minutes later our appetizer came out. Before you say how do you know she didn't put in the order?? I watched the door because I was facing out. No other servers came out with an appetizer or an order within that time. When she sat the cheesy shrimp tacos in front of us she asked if we would like any sauces. I asked what did it come with, to which she informed us she didn't know because she didn't order it. She went to find out & came back with a little container of sour cream, salsa & ranch. Now this was by far a very good appetizer! It was seasoned well & had a lot of shrimp in it. The sour cream complimented it. We had to ask for napkins & silverware. She brought them to us after we finished the appetizer. This shouldn't have to be something that's asked for, but it happens. Still nothing from her, she just lays them on the table & walks away. I ordered the French Dip Grilled sliced sirloin and melted cheese jammed in a roll with house made au jus 9.99 with french fries. I asked if it came with onions & asked what type of cheese they put in the sandwich. She told me she didn't know but would find out, she came back to say it has white cheese. My friend ordered the "Butcher Day" Pork Chop A 12 oz. thick cut, Dutch chop topped with fresh pineapple, includes one side, and bread 14.99 she got broccoli with cheese as her side. ** This was suggested to her in her last review (which was also a horrible experience) We received our meals at a quarter after eight, so over an hour after coming in & still no communication from our server on the delay. There were less people in the dining room then when we first got there (I mention this to show they weren't swamped.) The pork chop was so heavily salted it was like licking a salt block. The broccoli & cheese was a straight up joke! (See picture as to why). She had asked the server for the pineapples that were supposed to be on the pork chop & she was told they were out of pineapples. You would think that would have been something that was told to us when the order was placed. Her toast was cold as well. My sandwich wasn't overly bad. It definitely tasted like one of those steak hoagies you get in a bag to cook at home in a bind. The fries are definitely frozen fries & were cold. The au jus was absolutely horrible, it had no seasoning & no taste. We had to get another server to get a manager because ours was nowhere in sight. I had to ask again for a manager & finally after almost 15 minutes a woman showed up at our table. She didn't identify herself & said her name was Beth when I asked. We explained how we'd been in the other night & because Derek reached out to us we tried to gave it a second attempt. We showed her the broccoli with the piece of cheese just laying on top & she said "lovely." She told us the reason we had no silverware was because they kept running out tonight & how our server was new, multiple excuses. We were told they have been out of pineapples for a month now & she keeps telling the cooks this. I told her the customers need to be told this! She never apologized but told us the pork chop usually was the best thing on the menu. Then asked if we wanted to speak with Peyton. I asked who this was?! She informed me Derek's daughter & I said sure. She clearly couldn't make the decision on the experience & needed higher up. (I found out later she was a shift lead so I'm not sure if that's a manager or not.) She came back out after another 15 minutes & said Peyton must be in the basement. She then proceeded to tell us that she was going to make the exact meal for us to go. Lol so not even the fact that 1) we weren't asked if that's what we wanted to do or 2) to rectify the situation if we wanted it remade to where we were dining in, but to be told that it would be packaged up for us to go.. I told her no thank you, the meal wasn't enjoyable while we were here, we're definitely not going to take it home and try it again! She disappeared into the kitchen, saying that she had to tell the cooks this. The next thing we know our server comes out, muttering, something to where neither one of us could understand and lays our ticket on the table & walks off.

We were excited based off some of the reviews and pictures, but ended up disappointed. I kept trying to find reasons to make the visit better, but everything just fell flat. For starters, the staff wasn't attentive at all. The hostess went to sit us outside as requested, because it looked so relaxing from walking up, upon entering the outside, many people were smoking (cigs, not vape). I'd don't mind if people smoke, but I don't want to eat a meal with it lingering around. We then went back inside and they sat us in the corner by the drink station/kitchen. Throughout the meal, the waitresses gossiped about their lives and their customers while the table next us a waitress was wrapping silverware. Our waitress didn't arrive for like ten minutes and then took forever to bring our drinks back. The vibes were just all off. Like they all wanted to get out of there and not be around each other. It wasn't even late. The food was average, nothing spectacular. We got a burger and the fish and chips. For a traditional pub, fish and chips should be one of the best things on the menu, less than par. The beer cheese soup was a highlight. Very good. We also ordered some type of pear cheeseburger. Different, but not bad. I'd try something else if I were to return. The decor is traditional pub meets modern hipster vibes. Hard to screw up. Although, limited beer options. Only 4 drafts for a pub is kinda weird. The good news is there's a brewery next door. Like I said, I was optimistic and excited. I don't give a lot of bad reviews but this one didn't hit the mark. Considering there are many other options within walking distance, I'd try something else if I were you.
