Came here as our last stop of the day on the 127 Yard sale. Spoke to the gentleman on the register for his dessert recommendations. We chose the handmade Over The Top chocolate milkshake in a jar for $7.99. (You get to keep the mason jar). It was delicious with melted hot fudge that hardened at the top and smooth real ice cream shake. The small brownie nest pin the whip cream was the best!! It deserves its name and I highly recommend a try!! Seems expensive but was well worth it!! Great pit stop on a back road. We also visited Sgt. York burial ground and church nearby. Simple little city and fun stop while on the 127 Yard sale. read more

This place is like stepping into an episode of gunsmoke or bonanza. It's more than a store. It's a restaurant and ice cream parlor and a gathering place. Walking in this amazing place is breathtaking and encourages you to explore the entire store. The food and deserts are amazing. Deliciously and professionally prepared and quickly delivered to the patrons. Passing by this amazing place would be a mistake. read more

We came here because of the history of the store and the area. This is a very interesting store. It is as if you walk back in time to a simpler time. We ended up eating here for breakfast. The food was as you would expect from a country home setting. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. I would highly recommend coming here if your interested in history and good homemade food. read more

Saturday Feb 1st, Tony and I was checking out some State Parks doing our hiking thing when we ran across this "DIAMOND in ROUGH"...This Jewel is a two story building built 122 yrs ago in 1892. There are two sets of double doors off the long front porch, but the ones near the steps on the Left if you are looking at the front of the store is the one you enter through. Several older men were sitting on the porch talking and enjoying the 60 degree weather...and they were very friendly. Spoke to them a few minutes before heading in. Once I opened that door, I felt like I was stepping back in time...The smell of the Wood burning stove sent a wiff up my nose...and for a minute I felt like I was home..home at great grandma's house..I love that SMELL... Inside the store, it was jammed back with anitques (( old bottles and lard buckets)) and the selves were full of tourist items like magnets, cups, etc. There were several men in the back sitting near the old pot belly talking and several at the table playing cards. The ladies behind the counter we cooking up a storm...I could smell ham frying, saw her grilling some buns, and the other lady was making some soup of some sorts. There was homemade fudge behind the old glass counter ( a real true antique in itself)..I loved this store... I will definitely go back here again on my way through the area. I recommend it to anyone that really TRULY enjoys a piece of History!!! STEPPING BACK in TIME!!!! The front porch has antique wood carved statues.. very nice!!! read more

Very quaint and old general store. They serve limited meals but look like they are down home cooked. I have to talk about the fudge....oh my! The lady there makes it fresh daily. It absolutely not like the assembly line fudge you find in tourist towns. It's creamy and delicious! The pig fudge is amazing! Vanilla fudge with peanut butter drug thru it. Yum! They also serve some type of extra large sundae or shake in a mason jar. I haven't had it but it looks amazing! The owners are down home and very friendly and appreciative. I stopped here along with a group of 12 other women who were venturing out from glamping at Dale Hollow. The place looked interesting and was down the hill from the Home of Roger Crouch Astronaut sign, so it's got to be worth stopping to visit, right? You're right as long as you never step foot into the store. We enjoyed posing for pictures with the carved animals and indians on the front porch, but inside was a whole other story. It was dark and a bit creepy. There were racks of souvenirs so thick with dust that they might have been there since the 80's. There was some novelty candy in plastic buckets that were of questionable age, as well. There were men milling about but no one behind the register. The smell of burning wood (presumably in a fireplace that I didn't see) was a nice scent, but I didn't want to stick around just because the place didn't smell bad. I'm not really sure what goes on in the store. The group of women I was with seem to think that it's a hang out for men to do whatever it is that men do when they aren't with their wives, but I didn't stick around to find out. read more

I have been to this store on 5 or more occasions and was brought here by the 127 Sale aka "World's Longest Yardsale" which occurs annually over the first weekend in August. Forbus General Store is always a highlight of my trip. It's tucked at the bottom of two hills and seemingly comes out of nowhere as you are barreling down highway 127. It is a low, white building with a front porch that is adorned with large antique carved statues. The interior houses a variety of snacks and kitschy country items. Highlights include the homemade fudge in a variety of flavors and the instruction books on understanding hill-billy speak. The staff is always swamped during the yardsale, but they seem to remain acceptably curteous while checking out the masses. read more

Three words: Root Beer Fudge. Amazing, old fashioned country store. Great people and cool products you wouldn't see anywhere else but in Forbus, TN. And yes, root beer fudge is a must get. Might drive out there again just for that! read more

I was really looking forward to this place based off the reviews I read. But sadly it was not as expected. Yes it was authentically old. Yes it has that old smell. Yes there were the locals playing cards in back. (They don't talk to anyone but each other) But what it didn't have was a good vibe or anything really to purchase on the shelves. I was looking for something that I could say that I had been there. Example: a sticker for my RV. Y'all know the kind, that oval black and white with the city or place in initials. I understand I was out in country pretty far but their business lives on mainly tourists so you'd think they'd have something? Nope. The woman at the counter was vey helpful and looked high & low but in the end said "she was sorry but they were out. Guess my boss won't order anything". It must be frustrating to have to deal with that on a daily basis. I say stop take a pic but don't expect too much. Oh almost forgot. She gave me two of their mailing stickers saying she wasn't sure how long they'd last being out in the weather. Nice effort!!! read more
