I'm not normally the biggest fan of Portuguese food, but Forcado really blew me away. The pasteis de nata were easily the best I've had. I talked to the son/manager for a while, and he informed me that it's one of the few places that still uses traditional techniques, and it really shows. I had a coffee and a classis pasteis de nata. The custard was so good that I ended up buying six more pastries to take home and share with friends. All of them were excellent, with a really perfect texture and balanced flavor, not too too sweet. It's hard to pick a favorite among the flavors of pasteis de nata, because they were all so good and so different. I'll definitely be back. read more

I had some time to kill before going to the Horta Museum so I wandered down the street to this lovely little shop and walked in. Their pastel de nata and port sounded really good and they were not expensive. They give you a number and bring out your food to your table. It's not a huge space but they had a decent amount of tables and I was able to snag one right away right no issues. Then port and pastel de nata were both quite good and took me back to my time in Portugal. read more

Very nice staff and good coffee. We stopped in for a quick coffee and it was just what we needed. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the coffee was good, one of my favorite things is that coffee comes with a tiny cookie. Yay! It is a bit out of the center of town, but if you are planning on visiting the Horta Museum, for example, hop off the tram and stop in. It is conveniently close to the tram stop. read more

I stopped by here after visiting the Horta Museum just down the block to pick up some Portugese pasteis de nata. My friend and I got a couple of flavors, include coconut and the regular custard. These were really, really good. I'd forgotten about eating them until I saw an episode of "British Bakeoff" where they made these and when I saw some of the sad looking efforts the competitors came up with, I was immediately transported back to Forcado Pastelaria. OMG! A little slice of Portugal in Brussels! We were headed to the Horta Museum and after parking I saw "Pasteis de Nata," and almost did a cartwheel. In fact, I was so excited and distracted, forgot to look for the parking machine and got a ticket. Anyway, hubby and I each got a classic and my, oh my, was it fabulous. It always reminds me of the Indiana state pie, the sugar cream pie. But maybe even better. It was so hard to pass by all the other lovely looking options, but dear lord, the classic was so good, it as like we were right back in Porto or Lisbon. Portugal boast some wonderful pastries, most famous of which are probably the Pastéis de Nata. Made using a puff pastry base, filled with a rich egg custard and served with a little icing sugar along with a hint of cinnamon. At Forcado's you'll be able to enjoy the best Brussels has to offer of these little custard egg tarts, but also a bunch of other mouthwatering pastries, all whilst enjoying a cup of tea or coffee with friends. Back in the days Forcado was a little restaurant. They served such good Nata that they opened a shop next door, 'Le Petit Forcado', and eventually closed the restaurant. Today, this family venture now with the son at its helm, has grown from the small shop to a larger, very modern, shop and tea room just 100m down the road. What use to be a local secret is quickly going becoming a household name for its Nata, but also for the other succulent pastries, including the gooey Tentugals and delicately fragranced Orange Roll Cake. The staff are very friendly and love to talk about their products. The Pastéis de Nata come in their traditional form and a variety of new, bolder, flavors: coffee, caramel, raspberries or even speculoos. Interesting flavors but ultimately I have to say I am more of a traditionalist and much prefer the classical Nata. The modern interior boast a good amount of seating space and is an excellent choice either for breakfast or afternoon tea. A pretty ideal place to meet up with friends on a rainy afternoon (of which we have plenty). Situated in the popular Ma Campagne area of Ixelles not far off the Chatelain area, this is the place to go collect a treat for family, friend or just for your own enjoyment. read more

Forcado is one of two of the best bakeries/cafes for pastel de natas in Brussels, the other being Patisserie Garcia. Garcia sells more traditional pastel de natas, while Forcado sells various inventive flavors. Forcado has around 8 different flavors of custard tarts including some seasonal flavors. It's quite difficult to make a decision since they all look so good. I've had the praline custard tart and the special forcado custard tart. The praline custard tart is basically a custard tart with nutella in the middle and bresilienne on top. The forcado custard tart seemed like a normal custard tart with brownie on the bottom. Both were very good, but I liked the praline one more. This cafe is great for getting some work done or meeting up with some friends. The interior is cozy and clean. The custard tarts seemed too expensive to me at around €2 each, depending on which flavor you want or if you want to dine in or take it out. All in all, the atmosphere of the cafe and the inventive flavors are what might bring me back, but the prices are way too high for me to be a regular. read more

I rarely give 5 stars to anything because for me that is making a statement but this place deserves the exception. The sweets are very good, both the traditional pastel de nata as the creations - I personally love the coffee one (I never seen these creations in Portugal). The service is very nice, the decoration is modern and elegant. If I really had to point out something it could only be the price - if you want to have two sweets and a macchiato you will pay something like 7 euros. read more

The best pasteis I've ever had. Even better than the cafes in Lisbon - and dare I say, better than the pasteis de Belem! I love how Forcado gets creative with the pasteis. Their classic pasteis are excellent but so are their others (like the mojito!). Good coffee too. Nice and cozy atmosphere.
