If you wanna have that far away feel and not in the more populated areas of Newport News than this is just the place. You are secluded enough to take in all the greenery but close enough to hop on 64 to get where you need to go. It is literally right off the interstate, like 3 minutes. Lee Hall has loads of history, the train depot, Yorktown Beach is located on the same road about a 10 minute drive, there's the Lee Hall mansion right next door...like a 5 minute walk if that where there's plenty of tours that go on and the Endview plantation less than a mile away. This definitely a military friendly complex considering Ft. Eustis and NWS-Yorktown are less than 5 miles away. Also, the Newport News Campgrounds and city park is nearby. The apartments themselves are on the bit of the older side but the maintenance are super effective and friendly! During my stay of almost a year I only placed two calls. One was out of my own stupidity and the maintenance personnel came within an hour or two. The second was a non-emgerncy and they came the very next morning. Both problems solved easily and effectively! The office staff are also extremely helpful and kind. Never had an issue and it is comforting when they recognize you as soon as you step inside the door to pay rent. The complex itself is normally very quite. Except on holidays where people can get a little ratchet. There is a nice sized pool, a new playground for the kids, and doggie bag stations usually stocked throughout the complex. I enjoyed that the community garden for NN was literally located next door, for all you farming folks. There are laundry mats located within the complex but they also have washer/dryer hookups and some apartments have stacked washer n' dryers for those of you who prefer that instead. Cons: While being so secluded is a good thing, it comes at a price! Grocery shopping was a little bit far for me...and the immediate options like Food Lion on Warwick was not my cup of tea. Shopping is definitely something I do often and even with the interstate being right next door it was a bit of a hassle. For runners who like to jog around the neighborhood this is not a good place to do so if you want immediate distance. Yorktown rd, or 238 is a long narrow road which I wouldn't recommend running on as people tend to speed, even though the speed limit is 25mph ( you will get pulled over too!) and it gets very dark at night. There are lots of deer too! No cons with the staff! They are great! :D Now, being that the apartments are older they are doing renovations, especially with the flooring which definitely needs it. I think the biggest annoyance here was the thing walls.But that really depends on your neighbors though. I was always wondering if they could hear me because I hear a good majority of the racket coming from the stairway. Which, the stairways only seem to be cleaned once a week and got pretty dirty by midweek. Some folks complain about the close proximity to the railroad tracks but I found it charming. Your apartment will rumble and you will hear the horn. One thing that also was disappointing was one of their amenities was a fitness center which I found to be depressing. One treadmill ( which almost never worked), one bike, one elliptical and a multifaceted weight machine ( that also didn't work completely). I'm not expecting One Life but at least a clean ( lots of rust and sometimes gunk) and functional equipment. Luckily I was able to use base gyms otherwise I would have been miserable. Finally, this place does flood in some areas of their parking lots. There are signs so just be smart. Overall, I wouldn't have mind staying here longer and recommend this spot for new people surely, especially military folks. It is safe, quite and great staff. Plus, considering the area this place is pretty cheap and you are not in the hood like other places.

There are so many shops and restaurants within walking distance. And then just a short drive over to Richmond St there are more restaurants and shops. The Newtown area has great sidewalks, lighting and atmosphere. THE POINT is the best landlord I have ever rented from. The office staff is so friendly and responsive and the maintenance team was top notch. They do events every month for the community which is really nice. There is plenty of on-site parking and I was lucky enough to have a unit with a garage which was great. The on-site landscaping is fantastic. For amenities there is a pool which is open seasonally, a small gym room, and an office center for computer needs. I had several sets of very good neighbors, too. I honestly would have rented here forever, as I remained in Newtown, Williamsburg and I love it. But our rent was going to go up after our 18-month lease expired and, although it's not outrageous, it's more than a mortgage on a condo we bought down the street. Lovely lovely place to rent from, though.

For example, when we needed service we were told that we had to wait an extended period while they supported a safety inspection. Read the fine print in the contract as it contains several additional charges such as daily trash service and community electrical charges that are not highlighted before signing the lease. Although you lease for a specific period, it is incumbent on the renter to give 60 days notice. The property manager does nothing to remind the renter of the 60 day period as just another way to take advantage of the tenants and extend an unwanted rental period. Tenets receive two to three junk emails per day from the property manager; unfortunately they don't differentiate these from important correspondence so it's very easy to miss messages that are meaningful. The property manager does not post important messages in the property portal. Prospective tenants beware. .

The ac units upstairs breaking and leaking into my apartment, causing rapid mold growth, and the constant water leaks throughout the kitchen and living areas that bred more mold under the carpets and floor boards. They never apologized for this constant hassle, and when maintenance would come 'fix' things, I would have to repeatedly put in service requests to have them come back and fix the issue again. First instance of mold they just came and haphazardly spraypainted over it. I had constant breathing issues here, and was never compensated for the constant stress of things going wrong in this apartment. The appliances are cheap and dated. Toilets are very small, low to the ground, and have severe plumbing issues. You have to hold the flusher for ages for everything to go down, or it clogs. They will smile in your face and refuse to take accountability for the issues in their buildings. They cut the water off like 3 times a week for constant 'plumbing emergency repairs' that never seem to get fully repaired. Kids outside are loud and obnoxious. Frequent police calls. Overall not a positive experience. They claim to be a tax credit community but the price to rent with them is the worst, and they will increase the rent every year. They used to have google reviews but clearly paid to have them removed, and mine will also probably be removed because it's bad for their PR. Be careful.

I have a young child and I felt very safe and happy living here. My neighbors are super friendly. Only thing I would say negative is that people have a tendency of driving super fast, or the wrong way as there is a one way loop thru the apartment complex. Idk if signs need to be posted bigger and brighter. but there are lots of young kids running around and wouldnt want to see anyone get hurt. Oh and maintenance team is the bomb, especially kingsley, they have always been quick and professional if there was any issue! Thank you rolling meadows for a great year here.

We have recommended Spotswood Commons repeatedly to friends and family. No problem is too small to get a quick response. Even on an extremely busy day, such as movie night and pumpkin decorating etc., the maintenance department took the time to bring over an aerator for our faucet. The efficiency, friendliness, and cooperation of the Spotswood staff is spectacular. Keep up the good work!!
