This was an exceptionally good experience. Dr Mazzurco and his staff are friendly, compassionate…read moreand skilled. I was treated as a person and not as just another 'case'. Thank you for keeping healthcare about caring! Well done.

I was a patient here for maybe 2 years or so…read more Doctor Stephanie Castillo is wonderful. She will be leaving this practice 12/28/25 and heading elsewhere. She was very detailed oriented, kind and patient. She took her time and was very thorough. She would take the time to listen to any concerns I had. Whenever she extracted something she was always making sure I was comfortable and explained the process. If I was rating this review based off of Dr. Castillo, 5 stars hands down. Sadly the rating is reflecting the front desk. I have had a few issues here and there. Front desk staff: professionalism is meh. I held my tongue for the last year or so because I loved my doctor and felt like I walked on egg shells with anyone at the front desk. My first time walking in for an appointment and the service was delivered with an attitude. I felt like I was a burden. I'm all about having a good time at work and giggling from time to time. But, not at the expense of patients. When I walked in today 12/2025 they were talking about a patient who was recently in the waiting area, one with a hoodie another with a scarf. At one point there has been two curse words thrown out. Then I got the whole story about what seemed like a date one front desk employees was on. I personally don't need to hear all that. There were others in the waiting room making faces too as if they were not impressed. One patient even said out loud, "they need to calm down in there." 4/1/26 - 9:45am - I called in to cancel my June appointment. I was very kind when greeting the receptionist on the other line. I started with good morning , my name and that I needed to cancel my appointment. She asked for my birthdate, and I gave it to her. She located the appointment and told me it out loud to confirm that is the appointment. I said, "I am sorry can you repeat that?" She basically screamed into the phone the date of my appointment that my coworker beside me heard. Another reason that I am not coming here anymore. No one deserves to be spoken to like that. I was kind and polite the entire conversation. Not that I have to defend myself, but my phone at work has issues at time, and when she stated the appointment she was a little soft spoken. I just don't think it takes much for someone to be kind, and understanding. I had the review at 3 stars but after today I am reminded that I do not deserve the rudeness along with other patients. It just makes me wonder what happens staff to staff and if the doctors are aware of this kind of interaction as if affects them as well. Last Spring 2025 I had a mole removed. It measured maybe 1.5in long by 1in. It was pretty large in comparison to the others I have had done in the past few years. I ended up having issues with it and was concerned. Things were not looking right... I'll spare the details. I called in to see if I could get in to get looked at I was quoted an appointment 4 days from when I called. I was not happy with that especially if it was infected. The receptionist on the phone was not willing to budge, help etc. I remained polite and calm. I ended up getting a phone call from someone who happened to be in the office who isn't normally there. She was flabbergasted that I had to wait 4 days. She said, "nope, let me check." She got me in the next day early morning. Dr. Castillo was happy I came in and glad I called and was kindly persistent. I held off writing this review as I was waiting for my time to come to an end at this office. I was afraid of retaliation or extra rudeness from the front desk staff. I remained a patient here because of my doctor and put aside the front desk staff. I dreaded coming in and associating with the front desk staff. So much so that I need my records since one of my moles was cancerous. But, I decided to just not go in and get my chart at this point. It's not worth the attitude I'll receive. I hope this is eye opening for the front desk and others. Respectfully.

The purpose of this visit to Newport News was to assist my sister with her medical treatment now…read morethat her husband had passed away and she needed help with transportation and home assistance for a few days after small procedures to address melanoma on her eyelid. She wouldn't be able to drive herself to these doctors after general anesthesia and one eye covered with a bulky patch. Peninsula Dermatology & Skin Cancer Surgery Center in Newport News was the first stop for the MOAS Procedure. This microsurgery removes a single layer of skin cells and examines each to determine if the suspect cells are gone, or if another layer must be taken off. She was lucky to require only one dermis layer to be removed when she was advised a second would not be required. The medical assistant who took charge of prepping her for the surgery was friendly and supremely competent. She escorted sister into the operating room, helped her complete the forms and introduced her to the surgeon, and further assisted as appropriate in the O. R. It was she who returned to us in the inner waiting room to give the happy news that we could now move on to part two of this day's agenda - the reconstruction of the eyelid. The only rub with Act II was that we had to travel to Richmond (about 90 miles away) to accomplish this feat. Thus, my role as chauffeur. Please check on Virginia Oculofacial Surgeons page for the end of this story. FIVE STARS for the quality, expertise and humanity of Peninsula Dermatology and Skin Cancer Surgery Center. They got us off to an auspicious start.

I would absolutely recommend this practice. I've had a seamless experience! Dr. Hime is sweet,…read morefriendly and patient with any questions or concerns you might have about your care!
