Unfortunately, my impression of it does not match their enthusiasm. Although his teacher (Ms. Sarah) did follow some Montessori practices, it is just way too Roman Catholic for me. As I understood it from parents of preschool alums, the preschool is run separately from the K-8 school. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. As a non-RC, I was put off by how much religious education/indoctrination my son received. The school pushed The Church's political agenda to preschoolers!

The streets around the school get VERY crowded when school is in session especially in the mornings and after school. Northside really is an exceptional place. I was a part of the first class to complete four years in…read morethe high school, and I can say, without a doubt, that Northside had the kind of impact on me that I don't think I could have had elsewhere. The staff at this school is remarkable not only because of their depth of knowledge on various subject, but because of the fresh approach that they take to education and the compassion that they show their students. It was my experience that the teachers at Northside didn't punch out as soon as the bell rang (or the music played). As for the overall environment, this school has always been extremely progressive in it's approach to the arts and it's dedication to pursuing them. The open mics used to be something of legendary quality for Chicago high school students, and that tradition has been carried on by the annual arts festival the school presents. I found myself completely prepared for college, but more importantly, completely prepared to go after the things in life I wanted to explore personally and artistically. Northside always treated me more like a human than a statistic, which is rare in the CPS. If I ever made the mistake of procreating, I'd be sending my kid here.

Students must apply, have a great academic record, and score very well on an entrance exam in order to be accepted. All academic classes are taught at the honors or AP level, which provides the challenge needed by motivated students. My daughter is a freshman here, and so far I've been very impressed with the curriculum, faculty, and teaching methods. The schedule resembles that of a university: each academic class meets twice a week. Every Wednesday is dedicated to an alternative learning program called "Colloquium" which gives students an opportunity to sample a variety of subjects. The administration is well organized and supportive of the staff. In addition, there are very strong parent organizations that contribute to the life and health of the school community. If you know of an academically gifted grade school student, I would highly recommend that you consider NCP when evaluating high schools.

This school is ok, but I do have some things that I have to share with you:…read more 1. A large bullying problem. I can tell you that the 4th and 5th graders call the 3rd graders as "Turd" graders. Adding to that, there is at least 1 fight in 2 months. 2. DISGUSTING Boys bathrooms. The boys bathrooms are usually STICKY on the floor, and pee all over the seat. Occasionally, the boy's bathrooms get flooded. Once, I saw poop on the freaking toilet seat. 3. Ok, but this is a good one. There are a nice and friendly group of kids usually in the school. The third graders are nice, the fourth graders know what they're doing, and the fifth graders are amazing. I have good friends in all grades, and it is ok. 4. Lastly, strict teachers. Usually, teachers can be extremely flexible, including substitute teachers. But, there's some strict teachers that give out HARD discipline. I understand that they're trying to prepare us for the next grade, but they need to just chill out a bit. That is my honest review on this school.

You may see the signs like "No bully zone" but thats just to trick you into believing they care. If you get bullied on the bus apparently "They can't do anything, Its outside of school". Students cannot focus during this long of periods, especially at a high school level. Social exclusion is also a big issue at this school. There are plenty of prestigious schools in the area; you are better off sending you student to another private school or one of those until the new principal gets his head screwed on correctly and fixes the new schedule.

They have an awesome supervision and security system for the children, which I can appreciate. So glad my son was accepted here.
