There is basically just one trail running across it from Knockash to Edgehill streets, and a couple of benches. The views are limited a bit due to the trees, but it is still a very pretty place to walk through, especially at sunset. In fact, the entirety of Laguna Honda Hill is very scenic, and I highly recommend walking up to the top while you're here. Also, what is with those crazy shingled castle-mansions? Someday I gotta get me one of those. It seems that there is a very active volunteer group that works in Edgehill Park doing habitat restoration and I've also seen proposals for a staircase down to Kensington Way, which would be awesome! There's always crowd but it doesn't seem to get too crowded though. Always seems to be something going on here. It's got like 12 acres of open space. There's often concerts and those kinds of things. Other times people are out here playing with their dogs. This is also considered a picnic area, and it's a nice place to have one. Convenient location to get to from. It's located pretty close to the Polo Field and some other things in the park. This is a good place to have a party or just chill and whatever.

The space is largely a walking path with gorgeous trees and plants on either side that ends in a stoned seating area. While the area tends to bring many a smoker and is often used for quick professional checkins, it's a quiet respite to the San Francisco rush if you don't have the energy to hoof it to Progress Park around the corner at 26th and Indiana. It was my second favorite park in the area, and I absolutely miss it now that I'm not local any longer.

The jumper is textbook, and you're put into a rotation that sends you on the trajectory of a fairly nice arc. You get a gorgeous view of the entire South Sunset Park in your brief moment of air time. A beautiful field of AstroTurf lies just across the fence. On it are dozens of elementary-aged children kicking a soccer ball aimlessly, to the apparent delight of the on-looking parents. That would explain the cavalry of mini-vans parked along-side the street right outside the park. Westward, you catch a glimpse of the ocean blue. Despite the hilly terrain of the Sunset District, the basketball hoop is essentially at sea level, making it even more susceptible to the winds of the Pacific Ocean. Ah, the wind. Instead of going through the hoop as the trajectory had originally planned for you, the wind had forced you left and down. On your descent, you only barely grazed the left side of the rim before thudding unceremoniously on the hard concrete floor behind the post. Out of bounds, take it from up top. Playing basketball at South Sunset Park, or better known as '40th and Vicente' (not to be confused with '26th and Vicente'), is as much a test of patience it is of a test of endurance. The backboard is semi-circle and not particularly wide, so forget any bank shots and any fancy English finishes off the glass. The wind, as illustrated above, is omnipresent, determined to forever blow away your confidence --- in your own shot, and in your teammates. "What do you mean I need to pass it to the wide open guy in the corner?!" Frustrated with the court? You won't be the only one. If you're over the enviable age of 23, chances are your two knees are complaining as well. Every millimeter of your bones take an anguishing pounding from the unforgiving concrete. Playing here is like playing for Coach Thibs. Your knees won't hold up for more than 4 years. I know a guy with pretty good elevation on his jumper. He prefers to shoot like flat-foot Paul Pierce here. Another guy I know likes to sky for the rebound like Jamario Moon. He's all about box-out-fundamentals-only when playing at South Sunset. I, myself, tried jumping for a rebound once. Landed on both feet, full impact. My lower back didn't forgive me for the next three days. I don't know why people even play here. Perhaps it's because there are four hoops and they are almost always available. For some people, that beats waiting 45 minutes to an hour watching other people play. "Hey I'm after the guy with the yellow shorts. He's gonna be on after the next game. Naw man, I already have my four." Here at South Sunset, I daresay you'll never have to track a guy down to call 'Next'. Sometimes, the best ability is indeed availability. If you still insist on hooping here after learning all that, then I can only admire your dedication. The wind, the backboard, your knees, and you back? ALL EXCUSES. A true hooper will play anywhere and anytime. LeBron James didn't become the high school phenom by refusing to play in the crappy courts of Akron --- he just didn't develop a jumper until he was 30 is all. One last advice though: don't wear your indoor ball shoes here. It'll leave without any of the grip left.

Hunter's Point doesn't bring to mind anything so beautiful - usually you just hear about the toxic levels of pollution that they build affordable housing on top of - but that is a totally different converstion. The park has an elevation that is just enough to get great views from anywhere you look. I think this is the highlight. Hard to believe that such prime real estate was utilized for just a park. Newer everything at this park. Structures and landscape. Nothing is super perfect but it has a certain level of care that is more than good enough. I wouldn't hesitate to drive 5 or 10 miles to get to this park. Dogs and kids will love it.

There is a very cool skate park and equally awesome playground, plenty of picnic tables as well all around the park. My two nephews and my puppies really like the cold wind yet sunny weather. My puppies had to stay on leash since their huskies, and would venture off into the woods, but my nephews got a really good game of catch with their football , and then a soccer ball dribbling back-and-forth. Review #166 - 2020…read more We tried to make our way to the beach because it was so hot; but unfortunately, the beach was so busy that we couldn't even find parking within five minutes drive so we decided to just keep driving around and ended up here. The girls were pretty disappointed, but there wasn't much we could do about the fact that it was a very hot 3-day weekend and everyone wanted to be out at the beach. We showed up at around 3:45 PM on Sunday, September 6th, and it was super crowded here as well. But, I wasn't about to go look for another park since I'd already been driving around looking for a place to relax at for the last hour. We finally found a decently close and well shaded parking spot about half a mile way from the playground after driving back and forth for almost 10 minutes. We brought some beach mats so I let the girls sit under the shade for about an hour while my 4-year old daughter climbed around on the play structures. The park was pretty busy, but people were still able to maintain their distance. There was a sign that said the playground was closed due to COVID-19, but none of us were going to force the kids off because they haven't been able to enjoy their time outside since March. There's plenty of space to play volleyball, which we saw a few people setting up their nets. Most families just sat around and had a nice picnic. My 15-year old niece even asked me if our family would be willing to come out and have a family gathering here some day. I guess I could make that happen one day...

I had to wait half an hour while my car was been repaired. But if you want to go there, there is a Muni #15 bus stop near the park. May be without the pandemic it looks good, but right now this park only brings sadness. First of all, parking as I can see always occupied by neighbors. You barely can park your car there. There are few interesting places: basketball court, BBQ grill area, kids playground. When I was there, everything was empty. I have to say, there are a few amenities: drinking fountain, restrooms. You can't see a good view from there. Basically what you can see are just private houses. The trees make it difficult to enjoy a really good view of the bay. Park itself is not soo big, you can walk it up and down in 15 minutes. Despite all of this, I have to say the park is pretty clean. It is really good that municipal services try to keep it clean even during this difficult time. I can give you advice, go there when the pandemic ends. You will get much more good experience than now.

It is high up, but not as high as my old street, Edgemar. We must've taken a different route, walking, a side street, and that's how we discovered it. We drove by here (only saw one person on the basketball court), and I wanted to see if it was here. Imagine my surprise! Seeing places from my childhood, just brings back memories. It gives me the warm fuzzies, seriously. I am so glad that this little gem is still here. I snapped a few pics. I sent them to my sister to see if she'd recognized it. And she did! But I could've sworn it was under a different name back then, though. A large tree providing a pretty view (the city is a pretty view too) actually, there are a few big trees here, a couple of green picnic tables, a basketball court, a red swing set, a small grassy area, a small children's playground, a couple of trash cans. Bordered by a chain link fence. If I lived here, I'd probably make this a regular spot. Since it's tucked away, not many people know about it, maybe just people in the immediate neighborhood (like a three street radius, maybe). There are posted signs, probably the hours of operation. One of them states, "No Parking Any Time." I tried checking in but it wasn't even on Yelp yet, so that's why it's me, who's adding it here.
