Small but very busy park in a perfect, safe and clean neighborhood…read more I'm not a big fan of artificial man-made dog parks with fake grass. I mean... why fake grass if you can give your dogs the real experience instead of touching plastic with their paws.... anyways that's another topic. This dog park is small but gets very busy. Most people are residents or live nearby. If you're not sure where to find a lot of dogs for yours to play with, this park might just be it. Watch out. Because it's fake grass, even if the owners pick up the poop it'll leave doodooo residuals EVERYWHERE on the grass.

We love Mission Bay Dog Park!…read more The dog park itself is a long rectangle situated between apartment buildings in the Mision Bay area. The park is covered primarily in astroturf and includes two fire hydrants, some benches, a three port water fountain, and 3 poop bag dispensers (one on each end and one in the middle). The park itself is pretty much always clean. Many of the dogs are from the neighborhood so there are a lot of regular. Practically all the owners we have met are also pretty nice. If you're driving to the park, there is a ton of parking in the area. Only downside is that meters in Mission Bay go until 10pm, but that's no fault of the park. The park is open from 6am until 10pm and we have found that the best time to go is in the morning before work or in the later evening, post 8pm. The park can be especially busy right after working hours and, for us, we try not to go during this time. We love this park and go to it almost daily!

San Francisco parks usually have amazing views and this is no exception. What's interesting about this park is that it's largely funded by a local nonprofit working with our city's park and recreation. It has amazing views. And besides a playground, it also offers a community garden, picnic areas and an off-leash play area for dogs. With sweeping views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Ghirardelli Square, Aquatic Cove, etc, you can picnic here with your gourmet sandwiches from North Beach and dim sum from Chinatown. Just to give you an idea. Haha. But do bring a jacket as it can be cold or just windy. My pup and I have been here on a few occasions and we loved playing here. Located in the middle bordered by Hyde, Larkin, Francisco and Bay Streets.

When there are just dogs with their owners, this is a pretty good dog park. HOWEVER on weekdays…read moreyou can expect to encounter one, two, or even three dog walkers each with around ten LARGE dogs. This is not a huge dog park so imagine 30 large dogs who are very high energy and racing back and forth ... I see that and I leave. Not to mention, one of the regular dog walkers has multiple dogs who are so ill-tempered they have to wear muzzles. My dog is 12 years old, a 68 pound black Lab and even though she is large, I cannot risk having her run down by an even larger dog charging across the park at full speed. Then the other week I brought in a 15 year old blind toy poodle who weighed 12 pounds, and his sister, a mini who weighs 15 pounds. The mini is dog social but she wouldnt get off the bench next to me because of all the chaos, and of course the blind one couldnt wander and sniff anything so we had to leave. Not to mention there is artificial turf so for a blind dog, it is not exactly a sensory cornucopia. TLDR: anyone thinking of taking your dog here? dont even bother during weekdays from 9 to 5. you are very likely to encounter a chaotic jumble of up to 30 energetic large dogs.

The hilly back side of the park is shady and nice for walking while the grassy area always has dogs playing. There are some picnic benches and regular benches for seating as well. We had a lovely birthday here for our toddlers and so many people commented that they had no idea this park existed. This is also one of the parks that allows a bouncy house permit. For those who needed a restroom, they could go down the hill a couple long blocks to Whole Foods, or some used the trails for privacy. We also brought some toddler potties for the kids. PROS - Amazing views of the city & even Golden Gate Bridge! Lovely sunset views as well. - There are some nice trails going down the hill. - There's a community garden. - The playground's fully enclosed. - The playground seems to include some toys donated by the neighborhood, which is a nice touch! For example some plastic ride on cars, activity tables, etc. - There's a large field for dogs to play. - Tons tons tons of parking. CONS - Some noise from the 101. - There is no restroom.
