Beautiful park with a variety of trail offerings. I was here for almost 2 hours and still don't think I saw everything. There is so much to explore here and offers something for every level of stepper. Whether you're looking for an intense hike or just a leisurely stroll, this is a great spot to be. The park has multiple entrances and different access points which would make multiple visits here still feel fresh. The park is very hilly and has a lot of inclines so keep that in mind. Once you get down to the park you'll be greeted by the lake trail where you can walk in a loop around the stunning lake. You can also do catch and release fishing here which I saw multiple people doing. While the lake trail is paved, this park also has a variety of cobblestone and natural trails as well. The walks are pretty shaded and all have stunning views of either greenery or some water component. This is a great walking spot if you're wanting to really dive into nature and experience some stunning views. This is definitely a more mild intensity walk mainly because of the inclines, they also have stair entrances to get on the trail as well. There were quite a few people on the trail, consisting of families, groups and even solo walkers. Despite its almost secluded nature this park felt relatively safe with the amount of people present. You may want a trail buddy if veering into the natural trails but the paved lake loop was pretty open making it feel safe for solo walkers. Overall, with its variety of entrances, views, and the moderate challenge, this park is a great choice for regular walkers and nature lovers! read more

What a beautiful gem!!!!! My friend and I had literally just finished talking about where the hell we were going to run at in the am. We drive past this park on our way to dinner the night before. In that moment we decide this is it! This place is beautiful. There was so much charm in this park I definitely could have put on a backpack and walked around all day if I would've had the time. In fact I wish my friend and I had gotten up earlier so we could've ran/walked around this place for a little bit longer. However we had plans that day and didn't have all morning to be out gallivanting. This place has a small lake/pond. Plenty of different trails paved and some not. it seemed very safe to me. I would definitely recommend this place to runners and walkers. read more

Happy Earth Month! This park is great for picnics, pickleball, markets, walks, and yoga. If you like farmer's markets, visit their South of the James market on Sundays. In warmer months, a lot of local yoga communities will organize pay-what-you-can yoga here. There is more than what meets the eye at Forest Hill Park. If you just pass by it looks like a lovely huge green field (which it is). But if you walk and bike through the trails, you end up by a cute little pond with a charming gazebo. There is a good amount of parking within the park and along it. You shouldn't have any issues finding a spot for your car. If you're in the area, Forest Hill Park can be a nice place to visit. read more

Running in forest hill park is challenging. There are a lot of very steep hills. But the cobblestone walls around the paved trail make it an enjoyable experience. Great for a quick 1.5-mile sprint. It takes some exploration. The trail meets the road and parking lot in several places, so be prepared to either turn around or go forward and look for another entrance inside until you get the layout. There's a hidden staircase at the back of the park that leads to the trail. It comes across a nice pond where people fish. There's biking trails, tennis and pickleball courts. read more

OMG what a hidden gem. Looking on a map, you'd think Forest Hill Park was this very small area, but walking around it, it actually is quite expansive. There are so many little nooks to explore from the main trail that leads to the lake. Amazing scenery, very quiet overall, and makes for a great outing especially with a kiddo (super stroller friendly!). read more

Enchanted Forest? Maybe not quite, but when I'm wandering along the trails at Forest Hill Park I certainly feel as though I could be anywhere my mind wants to take me. I don't go to Forest Hill for the playground or the tennis courts (although I'm sure these provide hours of fun for other park-goers), I go to explore the wooded areas, paths, and streams. I'm not much of a wildlife enthusiast and I couldn't tell you what this plant or that bird is, but I do enjoy searching for things that I don't see in the Museum District. And I love to bring my camera to document my visits. Landscape photos are some of my favorites, and what better place to snap shots than along the trails of RVA's awesome parks? I never go with a plan and I always let the park itself guide me. Sometimes wandering aimlessly is the best medicine to offset a constantly moving lifestyle. Next time you're looking for a place to become one with nature and enjoy the natural beauty of Richmond, head to Forest Hill Park and walk along the trails... dip your foot in a stream, even. Another great park South of the James- Forest Hill Park. I have been coming here since I was in diapers. This great park was once located close to where my grandparents live. And, even though it has changed quite a bit since I first started coming, it's true roots still remain. I really do love taking walks on the trails and getting to see a park that I do not often get to visit. For those of you not from RVA, I can tell you that during the snow days when kids have off, they will venture to this park for some killer sledding hills. It does boasts some of the best hills in Richmond- next to Maymont Park. For those bike riders, I can boldly say these trails are a riot but not for the new mountain biker out there. The bike trails are well maintained and you can always find someone else riding the trails on the weekends. Have you seen the lake yet...or the mini waterfall hidden in the park? It is not too far from the playgrounds - if you like a bit of a walk to get the blood flow goin'! This is a great park hidden in the city that many do not often visit. For those who have relatives in town that like to bike or just want a beautiful walk, look no further than Forest Hill Park! read more

It's a good park but bad people come here as well. I attended a near by church daycare and they made us clean up the trash in this park for earth day. Well me and 2 other girls found a bloody shirt a bullet and a knife in a man made grill. They all told us to stop cleaning and someone called the cops. We were too young to know what it meant but I always remembered it. Theres also a stone home that half collapsed deep in the park with graffiti all over it. read more

This park has it all. Lake, tennis, bike paths, fields, trees, everything. Bring a picnic basket or your Kindle and kick back for a few hours. It is generally pretty quiet during the day. Another one of Richmond's fantastic public parks. This park is known to many as "the place" to go sledding when Richmond sees any appreciable snowfall. The park is bounded by the Forest Hill and Woodland Heights neighborhoods. Forest Hill Avenue forms he north boundary while Riverside drive marks the southern boundary. Characterized by a bowl shape leading down to a wetland area populated by two small ponds, a gazebo and wonderful cobble stoned walking trails. One attribute that Forest Hill Park doesn't get the credit it is due for, is the Azalea's some of which provide the rooting for the more famous plantings of Joseph Bryan Park. There are picnic shelters and tennis courts here as well. The park is anchored by "The Old Stone House" that used to be the home on what was originally and estate called "Boscobel" I rented out the Stone House when living in the neighborhood and it is very inexpensive and a fun place to have a party or event. Recently the large pond or "lake" as it is called by some has been dredged and refilled, restoring the original footprint that had become chocked with weeds and generally overgrown. New paths and trails have been laid out and native plants placed around the lake. If you have not been in a while, you will be shocked by the transformation. The park was rededicated this past May. Forest Hill is my neighborhood park and it absolutely rocks! I take my dog on trail walks there several times a week. The creek is gorgeous with enormous flat rocks that are accessible from the trail. Climb down and sit a spell. It's magic! We see mountain bikers often and lots of families enjoying this amazing green space. There's also a great farmers' market on Saturday mornings. read more

From outside the park, I thought it looked like this place was kind of flat and plain, but that was completely wrong. The trails going down to the lake are nice to walk on, and you can do catch-and-release fishing there. The best part is the rocky creek flowing out of the lake, which has a path right next to it. You can easily go down to the creek's edge in several places. It's shady and peaceful. I saw a frog and a toad. There were some bees drinking water from the pebbly shallows, so be nice to them. I'm glad to have found a park with a really nice rocky creek. I'm not into mountain biking, but I saw lots of people having fun riding on high-up trails while I was walking. Also, the farmer's market here on Saturdays before noon is incredible, if a little (extremely) crowded at times. But that's probably a separate review. read more

Great park! I went here on a venture with a friend to play PokemonGo and it was a clean, enjoyable park to be in. The lake is beautiful with various animals to see (we saw a crane). Great for dogs with several trails to walk on. Plenty of benches and such here and there to take a seat and have a rest if you need it. Ample parking. read more

Wow - who knew? I've lived in Richmond for 5 years and went here for the first time today. Thought it would be a bust - from the outside it doesn't look like much. Glad I went - SUCH A GREAT PARK! Lots of trails - some with stonework, some paved, some unpaved, a big lake. Great for family walks - just bring your Baby Bjorn because some of the trails aren't great for strollers. Taking off 1 star because the only public bathroom I saw (the one in the little Stone House) was locked :(. Also saw a playground there. We will be back to explore! read more

My review is mostly pertaining to the adjoining mountain bike trail here. Its got good flow WHEN it does flow. There are just too many exits and entrances and dead ends here for the out of towner to make heads or tails out of this trail. It is very well maintained how ever. The parking lot seemed a little sketchy but I have yet to have a problem with my car yet. read more

what a beautiful park! be sure to check out the lake and rapids/waterfalls.. lots of running/hiking/mtn bike trails to explore with some nice steepness for your workout.. it was very sad to see all the trash in the beautiful rapids washed down the creek after a rainfall, however.. if i lived in RVA i would go run/jog in this park as often as possible, as it is i will try to return each time i visit because I really like this place read more
