We got married at Libby Hill Park. With wedding venues charging the price for a lung transplant, we decided to have it at a free venue. I looked online to see other people's and experience with doing this, and found it to be hassle free. We didn't have a permit for our quick and small wedding (approximately 100 people). But to be safe if you did want to get a permit, they are only about $25 I believe. Parking was super easy and space easily accessible! This park will forever be a special place for our family! Very close by to Cobra Burger! My husband and I decided to take our kids for a walk here after we went to go pick up our lunch order. It was a weekend (and it may have been a bit colder) and there was plenty of parking on the street. I do lover the older homes in Churchill- beautiful buildings and friendly peeps. Easy to get to and plenty of parking spots. My favorite park in Richmond. This place is the perfect spot for a picnic. It's also great for outdoor yoga, a photoshoot, reading a book, catching up with friends.....basically anything you can do outside is so much better when you do it here. It has the view that named our city and I think that's so special. Maybe that's a part of why I like it so much, or maybe it's because I think this park captures Richmond so well. Our city does industrial outdoors very well. Libby Hill showcases this with the city views, river views, the old Lucky Strike building, and green space. There is plenty of street parking. It's also very close to some awesome local businesses. I highly recommend takeout picnics here. There are a few picnic benches and stairs that can take you back down to Shockoe Bottom. This is my #1 park in Church Hill and in the city. It's a fabulous place for people watching and even better for sunset watching. I always take visiting friends to this spot. read more

Seeing the YELP photos, I had to check this park out. Quite a site to behold with the views of the fountain, homes, and landscape that is Richmond. Also saw people doing photo shoots, reading, sharing inhibitions, and setting up their drones. Not to mention it's also a great starting point for walking towards the downtown area. Don't be alarmed making the climb; while it looks steep, I can assure you that you won't regret it. The view of Richmond from the Hollywood Cemetery is pretty good but I think the view from here is better. Though it's possible that the endorphins from climbing the hill are making it more special. This is one of the three original parks in Richmond's park system. Allegedly, the view from here is said to closely resemble the view of Richmond on the Thames in England that it gave the city of Richmond its name. Climbing the hill on foot looks daunting, but one can also drive and park in the residential neighborhood at the top, and there are several restaurants within walking distance as well. Libby Hill Park is one of the places in Richmond that I use as a pit stop when I'm driving from DC to North Carolina. I usually park near the bottom of the hill on East Main St or one of the side streets. Be kind and don't park in the spots for Poe's Pub unless you're going to eat there. There are places to park on streets near the top of the hill (N 29th St via E. Broad St) but you can't drive up there from Main St. I then walk up the curving pathway up to the summit. Perfect for leg stretching during a drive that is often prolonged due to the usually horrible northern Virginia traffic. The view overlooking the James River and the Shockoe Bottom district of Richmond is beautiful. If you're a train watcher there are frequent trains traveling by on a trestle above Shockoe Bottom. There is a Confederate Sailors monument located in the park. It's a large column with a statue of one of the aforementioned sailors up top. There are a few informative signs scattered around but otherwise it's a simple park. It could possibly use a few more benches but I've never had a problem finding a place to sit for a few minutes. I'm giving it 5 stars for what it is. A simple park with a great view. read more

This is a prime spot to visit for pretty photos of Richmond. It's located in the Church Hill neighborhood -- a quaint, historic district to the east of downtown -- and is ideal for photographers of all levels. I walked around with my old iPhone snapping away while a drone buzzed overhead. The park itself is small but tranquil. Lots of dogs were being walked (ugh, love, want them all), and the paths were clean. You can look out over the James River or set your sights on quintessential RVA shots of the business district. Despite the chill and cloudy overcast, I loved my recent visit. I took a ton of photos of the leaves changing colors and then walked around the neighboring streets a bit before ending up at Proper Pie Co. and the Historic St. John's Church of Patrick Henry fame. I'd say this is an excellent park for first timers to Richmond to add to their must-visit lists. read more

This is probably one of the most beautiful city views of Richmond you're going to get. It's said that this is where the founder of Richmond decided to give Richmond its name. There is a plaque and everything. From this view - you see the old cigarette factory, Lucky Strike, the James River, a couple of bridges and of course Confederate soldier statue that could stand to be removed. They placed the statue here due to the former/fallen Confederate navy yard is also in this view. The houses in the area are lovely. They date back as early as the 1850s, but the oldest is actually from 1839. The ones that caught my attention were the Victorian era homes. I am in love with those and they're very picturesque. Libby Hill is worth wandering. I don't know how this is night, but I can see this being a romantic place to roam during the sunset or sunrise. Possibly even a good spot to propose? Likely has already been done. If you want a view in Richmond, this is probably as good as it gets! read more

This is an all time favorite place of mine to go and reflect. It's quiet and the scenery is just gorgeous. Now the trees are bright yellow, red and orange and the view of the James River running through Richmond is a treasure. My hometown and I love it! Libby Hill offers an amazing view of the city and the James. With benches to sit and people watch, and walk ways to enjoy a stroll with your loved one or fur baby. Stair ways lead down too a main road and it's a hot spot to come with photographers to take engagement photos, family photos or pet photos. I can not say enough good things about Libby Hill. I love it so much, I got engaged here! The views of the city are the best I have seen. In my experience it has been a very quiet and chill atmosphere. If you come around sunset you will see different people spread out across the hill waiting to view the sun set over the beautiful view of the city. You can bring a picnic and sit on a blanket, or sit on one of their many benches. I've never had a problem with parking here either. I came for the Fourth of July and viewed firework shows from all over the city, we could see 8 different shows in total. The closest and best being from the Squirrels Stadium. In my experiences the patrons of the hill have been teenage or older, with the occasional kids here and there, but this may also be because I have been here for sunsets, or after dark mostly. If you are looking for a romantic spot, this is your place!! read more

One of the great things about living in Church Hill are the parks. Libby Hill is my favorite...the views of the city are incredible. I love being able to walk my dog through the park and look at all the fab Italianate and Greek Revival mansions that once belonged to the glitterati of 19th century Richmond society. It's like time travel, imagining Patrick Henry walking on these same streets over 300 years ago. I always go to the annual neighborhood yard sale here and pick up "treasures" for my old house. When I lived in D.C., I lived on the Hill so when I first moved to Richmond, the similarities of Church Hill called to me. I loved the architecture, the history, and the mix of residents. My biggest nightmare would be to live in the burgs with wall-to-wall carpeting and color-coordinated appliances. Church Hill is a melting pot: gay, straight, arty, old families who've been here for generations. I wouldn't have it any other way, and hey, I can still say I live on the Hill. read more

No doubt my favorite park in Richmond. When I first came here, I felt like I had uncovered some sort of secret paradise that I needed to tell everyone about/ bring everyone to. There's a beautiful view of Rocketts Landing on one side, Richmond looking west, and to the south the James. The park is clean and spacious. There's plenty of room to enjoy a picnic and take some photos. There's a couple benches and a fountain as well. Aside from the view I get from my rooftop deck, Libby Hill Park has the best view of the city. It is an easy drive or hike up the side of the hill (you do not have to drive up the side of the hill just for clarification). There are cute fountains here and they have smaller trickles of water which I feel adds to the already abundant ambiance. Gorgeous flowers (none of which I know by name) are beautiful when in bloom in the spring/summer. This is also where Richmond got its name! There is a plaque in the spot where you can see the curve in the James River which reminded settlers of Richmond on Thames in England. Once they saw the resemblance it was decided that the name would be Richmond. So you're standing where the founding fathers of this little town stood, looking over the river to the east and the city to the west...what's not to love? A must see while in RVA. read more

Nestled just past the heart of the city, it is one of the most relaxing spots to visit. This is an awesome park, it's definitely on my list of places to take out-of-towners... it's got one of the best views of the city, and it's surrounded by gorgeous tall old houses and historic charm. The park itself is on the top and side of a hill... if you go to the bottom of the hill you end up on Main Street down a bit from Millies and close to Poe's Pub. It's got one or two fountains and some benches, and on a sunny Sunday afternoon it's usually filled with families and dogs and picnics. It's also got a park house so if you get too hot, you can hang out on it's porch and cool down... but the real attraction (other than the view, which is a great date spot- I've seen more than one couple romantically strolling through this park at twilight) is the monument- its a replica of the Statue of Liberty, and it was put up in the late 1800s in remembrance of the Confederate soldiers. Also, if you head down to the end of Libby Terrace, you can look out over a hill (31st street curve around below) and it's pretty cool because to the left you can see where a giant sinkhole used to be (go to 31st and E. Grace to get a closer look)... there's actually a locomotive buried underground near there, and a portion of the tunnel it's buried in collapsed during Hurricane Gaston, resulting in an enormous sinkhole. Libby Hill Park is gorgeous. I can't get enough of Church Hill these days and places like this are why. I was looking for somewhere peaceful to get some work done during the week and I decided to check out Libby Hill Park since, sadly, I'd never been before. When I pulled up, there was plenty of street parking and it was everything I needed. It's in a great neighborhood and it was quite peaceful. Every once in a while someone would walk or run by with a dog. I was able to sit on a park bench underneath a tree and get work done with my portable internet with no problems. I can't get enough of the view from here. I wish I would have explored more of the park but the heat beat me up and stole my energy. That just means I'll have to go again, which isn't going to take a lot of convincing. read more
