The terminals are only good for 1-2 hours and if you need to be there a full day it's better to just log in on your own laptop; you'll have the same access to everything as on the terminals. Put in a good 6 hours here and got a lot of good research done. The building itself is gorgeous and spacious and fronts a lively little park next to their walkable downtown area. I was here because I was picking up my car nearby and that location (to be discussed in another post), and needed a place to work for the foreseeable future. I looked up public libraries near me and found the Melrose Park Public Library. I drove over and muffed on the parking lot entirely. It came up before the building and I missed it, but parked right around the corner on the street across from a church (located behind the library). I walked in, saw workspaces and reserved one easily from the librarians up front. They were friendly and helpful and steered me into a specific workspace that had closed off walls so I could do a Teams Meeting without my headphones. Their wi-fi was strong enough for me to do the work I needed to do without having to close any open tabs on my screen. I was even able to eat in the workspace which is frowned upon at other libraries. When I was done for the day, I thanked them and got to chat with them for a few moments. They were friendly and helpful. If I'm ever in the area again and need a workspace, I'm not going to Starbucks, I'm coming here.

Mmm, perhaps. The main level is designated for adult reading, internet & computer area, teen lounge area. Upstairs is the 0-14 yo youth section. In the basement is the good ol' Dewey Decimal system in use . The library is undergoing a makeover currently but it's not cluttered and still very much open to be enjoyed by the community and visitors. To acquire a Library Card to check out books , you need a Picture ID, parent or guardians, children can have their own card or under the guardian. You may decide what's best for your particular family unit. Proof of address is required and a picture ID. The library is free to use during Hours of Operation. They are helpful, so just ask for guidance or any necessary questions you may have. There is parking both in the East and West lots. Accessible on Riverside Dr. Parking is Not accessible on Harlem Avenue. The library is a wonderful place to catch up on reading, introducing new topics to your family/friends and promote healthy literacy in our communities for ALL. Great place to visit the offer Dinner & Movie night for only $5 buffet, registration required for adult services. There are a few community rooms for meetings, kids events and classes. I've taken ballroom dance thru the Park District in a nice spacious classroom on the upper level. Friendly, competent staff. Well-tended gardens and outdoor space for letting the kids run around a bit. Or they can hop over to the Whittier playground for a spell. We are lucky to have Dole in our neighborhood!

My mom's house has time and again proven to be an unworkable place due to loud TV watching, constant interruptions, and a slew of honey dos she lines up for me. When Maze was closed, I headed over here. It started out promising, I found a parking spot right in front and an empty table with a power strip next to it and got set up to work. I put on my headphones, not to listen to anything, but to help prevent distraction. And then it started. Like a storm rolling in. First with a few giggles, cascading into loud requests from a few kids, and quickly escalated into children running around, screaming laughing and shouting. One could have mistaken the place for a book-filled Gymboree. Full disclosure, children aren't my thing. While it would easy to blame them or attribute it to a parent or two letting their special snowflake run amok; this behavior was known and encouraged by staff. As I said, the library is small and it doesn't have a separate children's room. Maybe an interactive space is this small library's thing, but for the uninitiated, some level of disclosure would have been nice. Silly me for assuming that libraries = quiet spaces.

The smell of books, the beautiful polished book cases, and the ambience are all worth a visit, if not several visits. The service and hospitality are unsurpassable - the couple running the place are the sweetest and most wonderful people, ever. And there is SO much knowledge of suspense novels coming from these two that it blows your mind. The books are priced reasonably and buying here is a lot of bang for your buck.
