First-time sellers BEWARE! I intended my first visit to Chesapeake Coin & Currency to be an…read moreinformation gathering session to help me assess my late father's currency collection. Instead I left having sold nearly everything for what I now know to be significantly lower than the tradable value. This is my own fault, I did very little research before going in, and allowed myself to be swept up in what seemed to be incredible offers. After finding a partial list of some of the more valuable coins and looking up just a few pieces online that evening I discovered that Chesapeake Coin & Currency made a sizable profit from my visit. Don't make the same mistakes I did. I ignored several red flags. 1) If things seem to be going too fast - walk away. When initially looking through my collection the owner said he might not be able to buy everything from me that day, which was fine because I wasn't really ready to sell. But the pace of the assessment picked up very rapidly, and I soon found most of my coins in a sorting machine, face values being read off, and an offer being made. I don't know what percentage of the day's spot silver value I was paid. I didn't leave much wiser about spotting rare coins and paper currency. 2) If there is no transparent list of items and how they are valued - walk away. Keeping a cryptic tally of the values is a red flag because it obscures what you are being paid for which items. I now know that the value of two 1899 black eagle silver certificate one dollar bills is more than double what I was paid. The margin is even higher on several 1900 -1920's coins. Again this is on me for not doing basic research. 3) Do not bring anything you are considering keeping for personal reasons on a trip to sell bulk coins. I got caught up and sold silver certificates that were wedding gifts to my grandparents from their parents. And 4) Don't make any guesses about the value of something. I really showed how much I didn't know, and it cost me.

Select from socks, pens, lanyards, flags, shirts, glasses, bumper stickers, and other team branded memorabilia. On 2 visits, prices were reasonable but be warned they're invented on the fly based on who's working vs who's shopping. A baseball hat quoted @ "$10" by male employee on first visit; same hat "$15" lowered to $12 by female employee on visit 2. Use this to your advantage as this indicates there's wiggle room. PSA: as the window signs indicate, they've been trying to close the store for about a year which means no new inventory coming! I learned the hard way that if you see something you like, make an offer or else it may not be there when you return.

Today's visit the clerk immediately assisted me. However, no follow up other than pointing me in the right directions. I needed more than that with sizing. The store has a lot of sports merchandise, it may be what your looking for. However, I have never been able to find what I needed. They have little youth sizes and that has been the issue. Give them a try because there are not a lot of these type of large big box stores with professional team licensed merchandise. Just myself, but I probably will not be back.
