Went to play Friday night commander and the building was just too hot. Had to pay to play and then leave early the night wasn't even enjoyable because the heat. Bringing my own fan from home and seeing someone order a fan and have it delivered mid-game is wild to me honestly. Not sure how many more tower games can be played until that's fixed. read more

The store (All the locations) are great. Clean , great layout and good collection of gamers for various hobbies. I have been a customer for years. I recently placed an order for some "BattleTech" products. It wasn't in stock at the store last week, but it was at another location. They said it would take a week to transfer the material to the Va Beach location and I agreed and left my number with them for when it arrived to the store. A week later I called to check the status and the product was still at the Newport News location. I called the NN location and let call and confirmed the product was in stock and I told them I was on my way to get the material. About an hour later (I live in Va Beach) and upon arrival the product was not on the shelf. So I checked with the register and see if they pulled it. Long story short the material wasn't there. The person who took my call wasn't there anymore and didn't tell the rest of the staff. So I inquired with the assistant manager who called the other locations and turns out the material was at the Va Beach location and told me that the material was transferred to the store two days prior and yet didn't call me. So the manager calls the Virginia Beach and talks to someone and confirms the material is at the store. They say its there and the manager apologies and I tell them to let the Virgina Beach store I am on my way again. I get to the VA Beach store and no one really knows about the order yet again and they can't find it. At5 this point after 2.5 hours of driving around I am frustrated, and the staff can tell. It takes them about 20-25 minutes to find the order, but it finally located. What did the staff do to make this better, Nothing, no discount or any offers or whatever. I didn't make any demands of such but after they had me wasted all that time driving around. The logistics management here is just poor. They lost the order effectively, took them a week to "transfer" a product to another store, and can't make a phone call. I been have been a long time customer (years) and this was just a huge let down. read more

This place sucks they set the thought police on you and do not even give you a chance to redeem yourself I just made a joke about I.C.E. and got banned and then got told that they said something to me about it when not once did anyone say anything the only thing anyone said to me was that I should use a barrier when painting on a table cloth! They did not even give me a probationary say a bann for a month or anything like that I had been going to this place for years and never had any problems most of the employees are great but one person gets offended and you are banned with no chance to ever go back! Prices are MSRP, unless there is a sale. They have a used section (mainly AOS and 40k), with a slight discount. The staff is friendly and lets you browse in peace. A few tables to play and a seemingly healthy community. Word of warning-there is a Chick-fil-A next door (sort of), so getting in and out around meals times can be difficult. From carefully painted miniatures to numerous games that you can play test before you buy, this spot has it all! I recently joined for a D&D Adventures League and it was a blast learning the mechanics to that game. I am an enormous boardgame enthusiast! I have a collection of over 100 at home and this place makes me want even more of them! The prices of the games are usual, kinda steep... but if convenience runs the world, it's not that bad. The shop keeps even do a great job with referring new games to you and know about the latest news on releases of the new stuff. There's a heavy Magic : The Gathering foothold on this place. To where they have their own tournaments and an entire room for playing the game. There's a decent size spot in the front for a Mech Arena type of game that seems confusing but exciting at the same time. Then, in the back back, there are about 6 tables for whatever you'd like to work with. Whether you're down to learn a new game or just find a new crowd to play with, this place is excellent. The miniatures they have there are stunning. Meticulous handy work with the paint on these beauties definitely make them stand out! There are tons of miniatures to go through in here. I'm sure they have what you need if you're into that realm of play. And onto the used section. From videogames to old boardgames, there's a large variety of options! I've spotted so many videogames that I don't see in any of the other stores in the neighborhood in this place. Not your typical used games & consoles store, not at all. ToG is a board game store, a card game store, a role playing game store, etc. It's a lot of things and video games are just a very small part of it. The video games isle is just one isle and across from it at one of their glass counters you can find some consoles. Most of the games you find there are current ones. By current, PS4, XBox-1, PS3, XBox 360 and some others, however much less after that. While the video game selection isn't the greatest, I've found the prices more than fair. For example on my last visit I found a copy of Starfox64 for the N64 at $13.99. That's about half what it's going for on eBay and other local video game re-sellers. There's definitely deals to be found here and I suspect there always will be since video games aren't their core business. This store used to be located at 1400 Kempsville Road in Chesapeake. The new building is tucked away somewhat behind a Chick-fil-A and not quite visible from the highway. It's easy to miss if you're not familiar with the area. Tower of Games is the second largest tabletop/role playing game store on the Norfolk side of the HRBT (the largest being Atlantis Games and Comics on Oceanview). It nonetheless has a diverse selection of products, some of which are not carried by its bigger competitor. For example ToG carries more Iron Kingdom miniatures and books that AG&C. If one place doesn't have what you're looking for, the other might. My issue with ToG is not the selection, but rather the clerks who run it. On more than one occasion, I've heard racist comments spoken between them or with chatty customers. I'm fairly thick skinned and don't let such things bother me, but it's very unprofessional and close minded behavior. Said comments are never spoken whenever an identifiable minority is within earshot, but they become open season once gone. I just happen to be a person who doesn't fit the stereotype of what his race looks like, so I've caught the ill mannered stuff being said. That out of the way: the new store is beautiful and spotless. Merchandise is very organized on the shelves, and the clerks are knowledgeable on the items in stock. There's a large floor area designated for gaming, which is always busy on game nights (Warhammer and Iron Kingdoms is common), and I noticed a Tekken arcade machine as well. It's a nice game store, which could be even better if the workers left their racist views at home. read more

Despite wanting to go to this store for sometime, I'm disappointed in experience there. I just left there and no one bothered to greet me or ask if I needed any help. The two employees just looked at me and continued their conversation. What's worse is that the one female employee there actually greeted two people that came in after me. I will never come to this establishment again, nor would I recommend anyone there. read more

They hold inventory privately for customers that they have listed as available on their website, and hang up on you when you call the store. I don't know man this place seems to gets a bad rap, but I have absolutely nothing bad to say about Tower. I'm an avid 40k player and this place definitely seems to cater to 40k and MTG among other niches, so I could be biased. With that out of the way this place has got several beautiful tables up near the front by their extensive GW range, and enough well painted terrain to create an almost limitless number of scenarios. All about supporting local businesses, and it definitely helps this place is super close to my house. From my experience the staff are friendly and helpful, and whether I come in and spend $100+ on new models or come in and spend absolutely nothing, I never feel pressured to buy anything but more so just encouraged to have a good time and use the tables. There's a nicely sized 40k scene here and I've definitely honed my game over dozens of hours spent at Tower. They have snacks, restrooms, the works. They also have graciously hosted several events ran by the local 40k clubs. Pro tip: the Chick-Fil-A that dominates the turning lane into Tower's parking lot is a nightmare during peak hours, be prepared to fight "chicken traffic" to get in. read more

The new location is very impressive, layout is tons better! Everything was easy to find and not towering over your head on a big shelf. That's not the tower they should be known for. I was estatic to pick up a bunch of figures for cheap, but didn't have a chance to explore much since the shop was crawling with Friday Night Magic players and the parking is a hazard with all the loonies getting Chick-Fil-A next door (who don't stop for pedestrians getting lemonade). I have honestly never taken the time to write a review but I had to this time. I'm always about supporting local business so my friends and I went in here and bought around 250$ on board games in about a week span because we decided to stop going out drinking as often. They allow you to call in orders and tell you when it will arrive. I ordered a card game and the gentleman told me it would be there in a couple days, so I was a week and call they say it hasn't arrived yet, ok cool. So I wait 2 more weeks and call and at that point I was already kind of irritated but I stayed calm and respectful on the phone, I told the gentleman my issue that I ordered the game 3 weeks before and was told a couple days. I have been in customer service my whole life so what happens next blew my mind. The guy says to me "well we didn't make you put anything down and honestly if you don't want it someone else will probably buy it" lmao are you kidding me, I could have easily just bought it online but I'm trying to support my fellow nerd and this is the response I get, that's just not how you keep customers. So I said to the guy "man at this point I could have ordered it online and got it three times over" he basically tells me "well do that then" then a week and a half later they have the nerve to call and tell me the game is in. I usually don't like to complain or anything but as a person who works in customer service, the treatment just baffled me. I will scream from the highest mountain for people to take their business elsewhere. I couldn't even bring myself to give you just 1 star because I assume that's just one guy in there who has no tact or people skills. read more
