Oonagh's Kitchen is one of those hidden gems you wish you had known about before. Whenever I go…read moreaway, I try to take some local cooking classes ... and here is this incredible den of flavour, on my doorstep! Oonaghs cooking classes are delivered in a very accessible way - no fuss or tom foolery - she is the real deal. I heard someone locally refer to her food as "Like a high class Avoca, only better...." ... and I can only but agree! The kitchen itself is custom built with the biggest island I have ever seen! I learned a huge amount from her in a very short space of time and am looking forward to going back again to learn new tricks and stretch my foodie skills a bit more! Highly recommended as a treat to yourself, or a place to go with a group of mates (Hen parties anyone? ... oh dear....)
I learnt how to drive with Charlie Kelly from Easy Drive, he was polite, quiet and unassuming!…read more One day we were driving in Salthill and I said to him how I hated a hill (had a bad experience driving with my dad!) and immediately Charlie made me drive there - I said to him, 'this isn't even on the test route' and Charlie said to me, 'I'm not teaching you how to pass a test, I'm teaching you how to drive' - I think that sums up his attitude very well. And of course, it's not just about the test (which I past first time!), it is about learning to drive properly. After passing my test, I went on to do an advance driving course (in order to reduce my insurance costs) - I scored top marks in this which I feel was due to Charlie Kelly and the way he taught me. I would recommend Easy Drive to anyone wanting to learn how to drive (and of course pass their test!). I used their car on the day of the test which was fantastic, I didn't have to worry about the condition of my car or under the bonnet.

The meals were tasty too - the Irish breakfast is HUGE and the Sorrento toast was fresh and filling. The barista was hilarious - he made amazing coffee, was passionate and kind and full of life. Truly elevated the experience. Cute newer looking establishment with great decor that is eye appealing.

I got referred to Tom Keary, who took me for 2.5 hours of lessons the night before and day of my test. I am a very nervous driver having started driving at 25 and Tom relaxed me so much in the day or two running up to my test. He helped me have belief in myself and relex on the car controls so that I would give a good professional image to the tester. I really wanted to review Tom because i am so happy with his help. Thanks!

My brother, 14 yo niece and I took a 2hour surf lesson with Bens in Lahinch on a whim in July 2014…read more It was amazing, mostly due to great attitude of the staff, a guy called Mike who sorted us out and the owner Ben who gave us the lesson. He is the most highly qualified instructor (level 3?) and vowed, he told us, to only let his instructors have a maximum 6 students at a time, with smaller groups the norm. He was able to give us instant feedback on every single wave we tried (and sometimes succeeded) to catch. We were all novices, though comfortable in the water, but made good progress, I'm convinced because of his instruction. DONT try surfing without first getting a lesson, as there is a lot that is counter-intuitive to us beginners. Ben himself is an absolute gent, good crack, and a very clear instructor. They also give instruction all the way up to advanced level, are open year-round, and he is expanding this year having bought a new premises to move into right beside the beach. I cant think of anything negative to say. The beach itself is very safe, with shallow waters that go out for hundreds of metres, professional lifeguards on duty, and a friendly vibe from all the other surfers and schools around. Non surfers, wives, kids, can enjoy the beach too while you are 50 metres away paddling on your board. Bens also does bike rentals, rock climbing and kayaking and this part of county Clare is perfect for those types of activity. Can't recommend this guy and his business highly enough.

I cannot sing high enough praises for Cloughjordan House!!! I broke my ankle while on holiday, and…read morewhen I finally made it out to the wedding, they made my life so much easier. Not only did they lend me better crutches with padding, they also allowed me to use the golf buggy to get myself around the property. On top of that, one of their cooks, Chelle, is also a nurse and she bandaged up my hand a couple times during my stay. Broken ankle aside, Cloughjordan House is absolutely stunning! The grounds were incredible and the lodgings were adorable. The minute you enter the gates, your breath will be taken away by the beautiful scenery; and the minute you leave, you'll miss the serenity of the surroundings. I will 100% be returning, hopefully with two working ankles this time.
