This place I've heard of many times. I live in Michigan but had to work down south. I flew into Nashville and Forks was my first stop after I got my rental car. I gotta say I was impressed by their snare drum collection and the fact that most were tuned quite well. I have had previous experience in many drum shops including one of my favorite- Memphis Drum Shop. I actually brought this up to to first employee that helped me. He was so nice. He actually said don't worry about trying any of them out. That's what you re here for he said. He said you can also take any upstairs and test them with one of our kits and cymbals. I thought this is great. I said guitar centers and other chain stores just don't really let you test anything that much. So I started making a few rounds upstairs. I tried 2 snares against each other on a kit for about 1-2 minutes at a time. I stopped when I saw someone get on the phone. After doing this for 3-4 times I started getting a new person ask me if I am doing ok when I got back to the snares. I said yes thank you so much. After a while it dawned on me that they didn't want to know how I was doing. They were getting sick of me trying out drums. Eventually I had another older gentleman ask me what am I looking for and I described it- he said you have the best drum right there that Ludwig Supraphonic. He said the most recorded drum ever . I said thanks I've heard that before but it just didn't go with what I'm after. Then I got someone to coral me with questions in the snare area. He started the same old thing I've heard a lot. Well if you want to get rid of ring in a snare drum just use different heads. I explained that I really like the ambassador head and would rather find a drum that fits me versus pay $1000 or so for a snare just to dampen the heck out of it. Just buy a cheap snare is how I thought. Anyways he did help with some other options for dampening I hadn't know about and I said thanks so much. However, I went to go test some other snares upstairs and he said actually can you go in this back room here - they are answering phones and it's loud. I went to the back room but he sat me at a kit that had the silent pads on the kick and toms. I might as well stayed in the snare area. My whole point is that when I walked in I heard other people playing upstairs on kits and it seemed that when I did it for 4-5 rounds it was just a nuisance. I was there about an hour and I still got Some assistance but overall I felt I was being pushed out . Also when I finally found one I liked I went to the counter and told the 2-3 folks sitting there. The one older gentlemen said something like oh that's good. Or ok. Then he just continued to talk to his friend behind the counter. I went over to the snare thinking they would come talk to me or something . I went back to the counter and nothing. I was thinking ok what did I say anything for. I almost left but I eventually told them again and then asked ok can I get some help. It was just a really weird experience. All I could think about is stuck up Nashville musicians. I don't know. Do they get a lot of out of towners that don't buy anything ? Maybe but the first person I spoke with said oh yes try anything to your hearts desire basically and then the next 3-4 guys were trying to get me to be done basically. I did make a purchase and I'm thankful for some things I learned - however for a beginner or intermediate player - I would not recommend this store. Then again I do think most drum shops are so upright about letting you try stuff. Drums are louder and more annoying than guitars sometimes. I get it. I still was hoping for more customer service than I got. read more

There is certainly no shortage of musical equipment stores in the greater Nashville area, but for drummers, Fork's is our Mecca. This little shop has everything you could possibly need, from a huge selection of heads to new and used snares, full kits and crazy little percussion items. Fork's is on 12th South right next to the more guitar-centric Corner Music. Fork's has a really friendly staff that won't sneer at you in that all-too-familiar Guitar Center way. These guys don't seem to care how good you are or what type of music you play; they just want to help you find the item that you're looking for. When it comes to musical equipment (especially drums) prices are going to be comparable at most every place. The difference at Fork's ist that you'll be supporting a locally owned shop with a staff that actually cares. And as many times as I've been in Fork's, they never seem to be out of the basics (heads, hardware, sticks, et cetera). Only problem is, every time you're in there you may be tempted to buy shakers or cajons or djembes or God knows what other kind of crazy world percussion items Fork's has in stock. read more

This is one of my favorite drum shops in Nashville! The staff are great and they know their stuff. They even teach music lessons to students. Forks drum closet - I mean, what can I say. Lots, apparently... They have a killer selection ranging from Gretsch, Ludwig, to DW - Acoustic, electronic, percussion, you name it - its there. There is also a snare closet, which is probably my personal favorite room in the whole store. That's right - you read it correctly - there is an entire room dedicated to snares. Wow. Selection aside, the dudes inside have helped me quite a few times select exactly what I needed. With Forks, you've got seasoned vets in your corner. Throw in a grade A selection of instructors, and BOOM. That's Forks Drum Closet. Right in the heart of 12 South with tons of coffee shops and restaurants around - you can't go wrong. I started looking for a drum kit for my daughters Christmas present. I didnt realize what I was getting myself into. After researching every acoustic and electronic kit (I think I now know every positive and negative thing of every drum company and their different kits), it was very hard to find a quality kit in my price range that wasnt going to fall apart in a year or sound like crap. After a month (nope she didnt get it in time for Xmas) of searching multiple websites, calling many music stores and calling numerous people on Craigslist who turned out to either not really want to sell their kit or just never responded back, I came across Forks Ebay store and noticed they were located here in Nashville. I called them the next and spoke to Matt. I told him my price range and what all I was looking for. He immediately went and checked his stock and told me what options he had. Then he asked what we were looking to get out of the kit and we discussed my daughters style of music and what her plans with the set were. We narrowed it down to 2 different kits and told me to come on in and we'll get something perfect worked out. 2 days later my wife went up there (I was working). Matt wasnt working but my talked to 3 different employees and all were very nice and doing their best to help us out with getting a great set. By the end of her visit, she walked out with a beautiful blue finish Ludwig kit with everything we needed and they took off everything we didnt need and at a price less than we expected on paying! So, in all, this place was great! The staff was very educated, polite and worked hard to work with us and give us exactly what we needed. I go here for now on for all my drum needs and will recommend them to anyone with drum needs! P.S. My daughter loves them! read more

It's simple, if you need ANYTHING percussion related, go to Fork's. If they don't have it, they'll get it but it's rare that they don't have what you're looking for. The best part though is that whatever you are looking for, they have a range of that specific thing. So, from a ten dollar set of claves to a 30 dollar set of fiberglass claves or a 100 dollar snare drum to a 1200 dollar snare, they've got you covered. I came into the store after eating lunch at 12 South Taproom a week or two ago, looking for something to do. Being from Lafayette, IN I grew up going to a place called McGuire's Music, a hometown music store, and upon walking into the building it immediately brought back memories of McGuires, except instead of being all instruments, was just drums, which being that drums are the only instrument I can halfway play, I immediately felt at home. The variety of drum sets in the back room, as well as all cymbal and snare closet had me really excited. Planning on being back once I have the money and space to put a drumset in, am in love with the place, and will shop nowhere else for my drumming needs from now on. read more

I drove 1 hour to pick up an item they said was in stock. After I paid they realized they would have to order it. The owner, Gary the Dingleberry, then told me he would charge me more than the quoted price to order what I wanted for no reason at all.. I explained I should not have to be charged more because their inventory count was off. He then just snapped and said, "just give him his money back!" The jerk then called me a liar about a price quote I got from Guitar Center without even checking it out. The owner is very rude. I would not advise anyone to step foot in his store. The prices were higher than Guitar Center. I would not shop here unless you want to be treated rude by the moody owner. read more
