Given the fairly quiet town on the outskirts of the Olympic National Park was impressed by this Ace Hardware/Grocery Store combo. The staff was so incredibly friendly and helpful. I was looking for air freshener and a gentleman in the back mentioned an aisle in Ace that should have it and when he realized they had moved all of them to grocery he came to find me to tell me of the new location. You, the King County caffeine addict, I'm talking to you! The Outfitter's Grind coffee shop is nestled in the north side of the Thriftway's parking lot and has its own door. For those of you who favor Mercury over Starbucks, check this out! If you are a person who uses the Starbucks drive through, you won't be disappointed with another drive through coffee stand -- but you will not experience the small town vibe of Forks, WA unless you stop here. It's vacation for heaven's sake!! Don't let that unmasked logging truck mechanic scare you away. Almost everyone here is masked up, and you are vaccinated, right? Heidi, department manager supreme, bounced between setting up the display with new product and waiting on customers. I've worked in retail a lot and know when an employee likes doing the job they do. It makes shopping there much more enjoyable. The barista put extra whipped cream on my son's 12 oz raspberry smoothie. She also filled up my husband's 36 oz hot water thermos without giving him a second look. If you have read thus far and have spent gold coins for your last nine minute hot (but low pressure) shower at Bogachiel Campground, you're one of my kind. If your next family gathering includes breaking down the tents and folding tarps, take a trip here first. . . . I've been at this Thriftway annually for a few decades. The moment I heard a PA intercom click and state "Hey, this is Harvey in the meat department reminding you about the raffle tickets for a side of deer are closing soon, so see me today. Forks is definitely not going to receive a write-up anywhere for its fantastic restaurant options so this decent grocery store is a blessing if you want to find something to eat for a reasonable price that won't leave you with regret while passing through town. The store itself is fairly well-stocked for a small town but has some empty shelves - probably not uncommon since I imagine this place doesn't get restocked as often as spots in more populated areas. The deli (which had recently reopened when we visited) has a lot of cold and hot options that are all reasonably priced. I had some chicken tenders and "jo-jos" (thick-cut fries) which were average at best but I wasn't too disappointed because of the price and surrounding options. The dipping sauces also elevated the flavors enough to make it worthwhile. I really wouldn't be surprised if this spot had some of the better food in Forks and if you have a kitchen to use, the food you could make yourself from here would be far-and-away better than any restaurant in town. I found myself returning to this spot having only stayed in Forks a single night on this particular trip because of this option (and past experience). Service is pretty fast and allows you to spend more time exploring the area instead of sitting and waiting for bad food elsewhere! read more

What a great store! We were passing through forks and stopped to use the restroom and grab a few drinks, and ended up doing a little shopping. The carrots were some of the best I hadZ after buying two for a snack, as soon as I ate one in the car, I turned around and went back to buy several more. The staff was very friendly and I was pleasantly surprised by the vast selection of vegan and gluten-free products on the shelves. Although we planned to grocery shop closer to our destination, we didn't want to pass up being able to buy some of our favorite brands we didn't expect to find on our holiday. The cashier also noticed one of my strawberries had gone bad and suggested I go get another package. This grocery also connects to a clothing store and hardware store. read more

It's the year of coronavirus, so I haven't visited a lot of businesses that I can review. (Earn that "Yelp Elite" badge!) However, my wife and I went camping (Bogachiel State Park) at the end of July, and stopped at Thriftway for some groceries. For someone from the Seattle area, the selection here is pretty thin, and the prices are on the high side. But the store is way out of the way, and Forks is fewer than 4000 people. Although Yelp lists three convenience stores or delis that are farther northwest, this appears to be the northwest-most supermarket in the 48 contiguous states. I can't say much about the food in general, since I only bought a few things. But I was generally pleased with the food. The store-brand marshmallows were an exception to the high prices, and better than the brand name marshmallows we bought for our previous camping trip. The cinnamon raisin bread was pretty good. The mini carrots were adequate. They had Starbucks Via, which is useful (perhaps necessary) stuff for the coffee-drinking camper, even if it doesn't measure up to brewed coffee. They had good pastries in their bakery department. In short, they had what we needed. My guess is that they also have just about everything locals need too. Given the remoteness of the store, I'm not going to count the prices against them. And although they don't have a dozen different brands of each item like an urban supermarket, they seem to do pretty well at having at least one or two examples of all the important grocery items. I think that deserves a four-start "Yay! I'm a fan." Also, since I'm writing this in the year of coronavirus, I'll include my impressions of how they're doing on that count. Given the horror stories I read about mask compliance in small towns, I was impressed to see that it was pretty good here; employees were all properly masked, and I saw only two scofflaw customers. One was a man with a mustache, a bushy beard with visible food debris, and a motorcycle jacket past its prime. He had a look on his face that said, "Damn repair shop! A moped is not an acceptable service loaner for my Harley." When he caught me staring at his unmasked face, he flashed me a look that said, "My supplier is way more dangerous than any disease." The other was a middle aged woman who looked like she left her home hair bleach in too long, with a mask around her neck. (She was with a properly-masked middle aged woman with good hair and tired eyes.) I encountered her in three or four different aisles, and each time I backed away like she was juggling knives. The final time we crossed paths she understood my body language, and put her mask on properly. In addition to the supermarket, there's the outfitters side of the store. Per the sign, it includes an Ace Hardware, sporting goods, apparel, and souvenirs. Maybe next time we head for the coast we'll check out that side too, but until then this review covers only the grocery side. read more

This is a very good grocer store given the remote location in Forks. Attached to a nice outdoor sports store and coffee shop. It's a well stocked grocery store for such a small town. It will have everything you need. It's slightly more expensive on some items, but in general compatible to other grocery stores. The staff is very very friendly. The other reviewers were telling the truth. So, I took away one star because I am genuinely confused about the mask policy. Some workers were wearing a mask and some do not. It's our ONLY grocery store and it's so much more than a grocery store. Its one stop shopping which is nice. The employees are wonderful and helpful... Especially the deli and baggers! I had to say something about the Deli because I read another person really negative review and I have to say it can't be farther from the truth. I think I have a more rounded experience than someone who's maybe been there once. The ladies in the deli are always really helpful and my kids always get offered a cookie! I know what your thinking.... No.. This is isn't small town defense of everyone knowing everyone. I'm a transplant and I can count the people I know from Forks on two hands! So please swing by the deli because the staff are great and they have yummy chicken. Don't go get chicken past the "dinner rush" it gets dry and gross looking because they don't cook more because the Deli closes. Now I'll say something about the rest of the store... Im originally from one of the suburbs of Seattle so my ideal grocery store is Safeway. I was extremely put off by Thriftways narrow isles and expensive items. Some isles u can barely fit your cart down due to the big support beams blocking the isle. The overpriced items made me rethink shopping in Forks altogether. I now go to Port Angeles once a month for the majority of my shopping. The prices on shoes and clothes may seem way too high at Forks Outfitters but the truth is they are dead on. They have high quality expensive clothing and shoes so if you price check online you'll see it's actually cheaper at the store because you don't have to pay shipping. Same thing with the clothing.. They have higher brands so of course it makes the prices more than say... Walmart! Customer service can help with all sorts of services. For example I get pics printed at the kodak kiosk and customer service is right there to help. Ive also wired money, bought fishing - shellfish and hunting licenses there. Big grocery store and the only one in town! It merges with a hardware and sporting goods store! The groceries are about what you would find at your typical grocery store. There is not really a lot of organic food that I found here aside from what you typically see in such stores. One of the corners of the store up front is jammed packed with Twilight merchandise. The grocery store in itself is pretty nice and offers a great selection of snacks/produce/meats/and etc. I'd suggest coming here if you are a tourist and wan tot refill on necessary snacks/water. We stopped by here before we went to the rainforest. Since we were really hungry, we got a sandwich at the deli. The sandwiches/chicken/wraps are okay. I wouldn't have too high of an expectations before you eat their food. The lady who was ringing us up was super rude. She had a sour face the entire time she was helping us. I asked how much chicken thighs were and without acknowledging my question, she just plopped two chicken thighs into a bag and was about to ring me up. Weird. The supermarket was nice. I am reviewing the Deli and the old lady who works there. And if you are reading this, WOW congratulations on being on my hate list (population of 1). I was filling out a sandwich request form to circle the choices I wanted and she snarled at me saying "You NEED to CIRCLE the item NOT CROSS A LINE THROUGH, THATS how WE do it HERE". Umm...ARE YOU KIDDING ME? WOW. To call this lady rude would be the biggest understatement of the century, and its only 2015 we have 85 years left to go. Also, as I mentioned earlier in this rant, I was circling the items and responded kindly in the moment. Anyway, the deli had some sandwiches named after Twilight characters (Which wasn't even filmed here). If you could avoid the deli, do it at all costs. If you are camping and need to pick up a few items you may have forgotten to pack you will find them here. Food, camping items, firewood, ice, etc. I give it two stars because of the two employees that truly wasted our time ringing up items incorrectly then having to return each item and then re-ring them. Most concerning was the completely chaotic way they went about this and then seeing that after having our items rung up twice the totals were different! I had to spend another 10 minutes comparing items and receipts. This cost us a lot of time. It was extremely frustrating. read more

This is actually a great grocery store considering you're really far out on the north west part of Washington state with no other options for many miles. I've clearly had a recent remodel they've done a nice job of lots of modern amenities with a huge deli and lots of choices. Prices are course higher than what you pay at home but I'm sure that comes from the food having to be transported all the way out the forks so it's kind of a given and don't be surprised. The selection was great they really had way more than I would've ever expected so if you have any reservations about shopping here when you're around forks for let them go. read more

Every time u think the place is going to end... nope another opening with more stuff to shop around with. IT is the ultimate place for all u twilight people such a place to shop for all that fan paraphernalia way cheaper than those places erected just out of tourism. PLUS they have a bitchin sales rack. I spent 21 dollars on three blouses! Note to you crazy people, this is a small town affected by a huge phenomenon. I also like to buy my clothing here they have a very broad selection of good tough workwear at good prices sometimes better then Swain's. I had a great visit here. Parking lot is huge, no issues and it's kinda the only thing in Forks so it's easy to find on the main drag. I was looking for coffee, something that wasn't a drive thru shack (too much pressure to decide in time). I spent some time perusing the Twilight merch at the front of the store and looked over the deli offerings for taking into Olympic National Park. I didn't have a cooler so opted for some packaged snacks but I was okay with the offerings here. My main mission was coffee though. So I usually order cold brew or iced coffee. This place didn't have either (that's fine, sometimes I get an americano or a latte) and I ended up on the Twilight themed menu. Okay, vampires aside, my drink was great! I got the Breaking Dawn Breve (iced) sub vanilla bean for french vanilla syrup. A latte with vanilla syrup and caramel sauce. It was a really great drink and a nice relief after seeing all the other coffee offerings around the area. When you drive down the Oregon coast, there are cute cafes EVERYWHERE, 3-4 in every town with free wifi, cute seating, gift shops and all kinds of drinks (Lincoln City, Cannon Beach, Astoria, Newport). The Olympic peninsula seems to favor the shack with no seating. Also, I had ordered a peppermint latte the day before at Quinault Mercantile (also reviewed) and the latte was gonna be over $6! This was $3.30, totally fair for a 16 oz latte. I read reviews before I came and I think I read this is either Peet's or Tully's coffee. I have no complaints with my drink. There was a chai Twilight drink, a Red Bull one and something else. Raspberry white chocolate maybe? There were 4 or so Twilight drinks and they all sounded pretty good to this sweet drink liker. I took my drink to go and enjoyed a lovely drive up to Port A. The coffee made the drive that much better. Minus one star for the staffing/wait. She was friendly and expedient but it was a lot of customers for one employee. On a Sunday morning at around 8am. I feel like that is prime coffee-drinking time. Seems like another barista should be scheduled. They took cards and I was able to get $25 cash back for park entrance fees-- nice!-- at the cafe! Lots of syrup options. An iced coffee would be a nice aditional to the menu, jnot just drip coffee with ice cubes added. And cold brew is easy to make in a big batch, something to think about! read more

They also have a hardware/mercantile kind of side, and a big Twilight section for you Twihards out there.
