A bit of convenience in an area with few. Need a flannel shirt or similarly utility type jacket to avoid a bit of chill during a walk in the woods, there are a couple dozen to select from. Some touristy Ts and pullovers with kitschy Sasquatch or Bears repurposing some faux 'PETA' garb bring a smile. As for some snacky snacks, Fritos and the like are available but not represented like any C store I've visited in recent times. Some ice cream, some soda and of course beer. Available. Area maps for the trails and indeed the entire peninsula seem to be plentiful. I wandered in hoping for perhaps a burger or fries to get me thru till I either sell another child to pay for a second fine dining experience at the LQLs Roosevelt Restaurant, or venture another mile north to the Salmon House. Which has high praise for a salmon dinner (I think I saw about 5 variations) or some steak offerings. The prawns were discouraged, per a local I inquired, due to the carry out only status. I meandered a bit off subject. I was informed that the food I sought wasn't available due to kitchen closure. When the pandemic forced closure, it appears the kitchen appliances suffered unknown catastrophe when trying to fire them up n more recent months. Lack of business and serviceable parts furthered this misfortune. Thus the lacking stars. 4 stars if your needs are more immediate and merely some beer n chips or something processed to cook with a Colman or hot plate. read more

We were so glad to have found this place to stop and eat at. Once you get out to the west side of the Olympics your choices are limited. We were looking for a place to eat dinner. The Quinault Lodge was across the street, but terribly expensive. We stopped at the Mercantile for a quick bit to eat. Overall, we were very satisfied with our meal. They offer tasty American comfort food (burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, pizza, and a few odds and ends). My only complaint is the speed in which we got our food. It was a little slow. I could see that their kitchen was small, though, so they do what they can. And I'll take quality over speed any day. The staff were also very friendly. We will definitely stop here again when we find ourselves out this direction in the future. Solid 3-3.5 stars, not quite 4 stars. read more

We stayed at the Lake Quinault Lodge, but we did not get breakfast there. Instead, we wandered across the street for some basic breakfast offerings. You don't have much choice if you are staying at the LQL and you don't want to pay an arm and a leg for a couple eggs. In the kitchy little restaurant area, we got coffee to fuel us. I ordered the "Basic breakfast" of 2 scrambled eggs, toast, bacon, and home fries. My companion got the "Mom's low-carb breakfast." We were served pretty quickly and did not have to wait long for our food. I would guess that it was about 9:00 AM on a Thursday in June. As for the meals, this wasn't gourmet cooking. But the toast was really tasty and the bacon was very crisp. The home fries were not the best, but the meal was adequate for the price. This is exactly what all little convenience stores in parks should be. It has everything you could need including children's ibuprofen, an amazing beer selection (even with special releases that I'd be excited about anywhere like Deschutes Black Butte anniversary ale), and every piece of camping graft you could imagine needing. As if that wasn't enough, it also has a little diner in the back which serves pizza, burgers, sandwiches and salads for dinner. They have breakfast stuff as well, which I haven't had yet. We got the bacon avocado burgers and the Greek salad. Everything was really good really good. The burgers were juicy enough and had lots of flavor. The toppings were fresh and delicious. I usually have raw onion and I left it on because ir tasted great. I won't be eating at the lodge again. This place is too good. read more

This place is along highway 101 in the middle of nowhere. It's a country store/restaurant. There's a sign that says "it may not be fast but it will be good" It's so true! I ordered Cubed Potatoes and toast with butter a ham steak and cheesey scrambled eggs with red onion and green and red peppers. For only $12! We were the only two in the store when we walked in. This place manages to have the rustic charm of an ancient country general store with a very clean little dining area. Most of the tables are at windows facing the lake. There were the typical vegetarian options- cheese pizza, PB&J, grilled cheese, and a veggie burger. I ordered the veggie burger with straight fries and my husband ordered the old fashioned hamburger with curly fries. Extra props for the fries option! The lady behind the counter was very friendly and took our order and cooked it up quickly. My burger was spectacular. Really one of the best veggie burgers I've ever had. The patty was great, the veggies were crisp and fresh. To my delight, on the top bun was a special sauce similar to tarter. To my surprise AND delight there were chopped grilled veggies underneath the patty- bell peppers and mushrooms. My husband reported that the hamburger was good, and both types of fries were just right. I also had a cup of coffee, which tasted fresh and was at that perfect midpoint between too weak and too strong. The mercantile itself offered a nice chance to stock up on basics. I appreciated their VERY clean restroom. And god bless their wireless Internet!!! This is the real deal- I could just imagine it packed with curmudgeonly anglers on a Saturday morning. A toothbrush will cost you about $2 they have everything from hats to gloves, some camping stuff and even memorabilia of your stay. We also had a chance to eat at the cafe.... although it did take some time the time is compensated by how your meal tastes.... it's pretty good. I didn't purchase anything from the store, this is only reviewing the cafe. I wanted to love this place because one of my favorite road trip stops is the Country Mercantile outside Tricities. Jelly, fresh vegetables, candy, sandwiches, salsa, a gift shop. The mercantile is great and a must-see. First of all that lighthearted jokey sign "we can't promise it'll be fast, but it'll be good" not really a joke. My food was okay but I don't think the quality justified the wait. I ordered a "breakfast sandwich" and asked "what comes on that?" & maybe I'm imagining but she kinda gave me an exasperated look. Does it come with meat? Just egg and cheese? She told me and I chose. I also ordered the "special" coffee, a "Peppermint Paddy" latte. My total with tax was $13-14. I asked how much the 16oz latte was if the sandwich was $5.95. She said, "Uhhh six something" I said, "For a coffee?" "A latte, yeah." Why the f is it on special? That's an airport price. A coffee shouldn't cost more than a food item. So I canceled the coffee, and drank water. I mean most lattes in Pdx are like $4? I can't see how that would cost over $6. Like you aren't even advertising the type of coffee (Stumptown, Trailhead, Sterling). It's just "a latte". I'm not opposed to paying $6 for the right coffee in the right circumstances. This wasn't it. Service was pretty friendly. They took cards. There was WiFi. I saw some cool maps on the wall in the back seating area of the cafe. I probably spent 30-45 min there between ordering (10) waiting (15-20) and eating (10). Oh I also asked for directions from there to somewhere and she told me the wrong way. I gave up after a few miles and just left the area. The little store seemed okay. It's small and sparse but seemed to have a good assortment of camping stuff and beer. Three kids running the cafe who could really care less about the quality of food/service they were providing. Coffee was always empty, food was exactly like a teenager would make after school and it was too pricey for what it was (sandwiches for breakfast & lunch) Deep fried crabcakes, ew, too much cheese on sandwiches, tater tots for breakfast. We had a great breakfast here after being told by the abrupt hostess that the Roosevelt Dining Room in the Lake Quinault Lodge was buffet only on Memorial Day. It was kind of odd as we were hotel guests and didn't know this. The buffet was $16 but we only wanted some granola and fruit. I said, "it's okay, we can go across the street" and the hostess said, "that's only a snack bar". We found it to be just what we needed. It is kind of a snack bar but with table seating and a view. But everyone was very nice, the food was good but a little expensive too. There are few options in the area, but this is a good one. read more

Can't say enough about Mom and her staff at the Quinault Merc. Sandwiches are fantastic and the breakfast was even better. We stayed 3 days at the Quinault Lodge across the street and fell in love with the place. I would walk across the street and order breakfast while the wife slept in and after a long day of hiking we would swing in and eat a sandwich. The conversations with Mom were great and interesting!!! I love these kind of places and Mom made me feel right at home. If you want something a little more fancy/expensive, walk the 100 yards across the street to the Quinault Lodge and eat in the Roosevelt Room. All us simple folk will be next door at the Merc chatting it up with Mom and her crew! read more

There is a sign near the register that warns they are not the fastest kicking out food so I was prepared for a bit of a wait. The day we went around 2pm they were short handed and the next shift was not coming on so they were going to close but remained open I guess they thought they had enough people. We placed our order at 2:10, a burger and chicken fish basket with a sundae that I asked to be made maybe a few minutes after we received our food of that was ok and the very friendly cashier said it was. About 30 mins later the cashier cane with the sundae, in a large size cup/bowl, when I informed her we hadn't even gotten our food she said she would make another one later for us. Another 15 mins waiting and I went to the window to ask on our order. The friendly cashier was gone by now. The lady at the grill said there were 2 orders ahead of mine, when I pointed out that the customer who ordered right in front of me had revived their order about 15 mins before me she asked what my order was. Then informed me that our food had just went out, given to who knows who...I was ready to ask for a refund at that point but waited a few more minutes. Another woman came over and gave us our bag of food that was given to another customer so who knows if they opened or touched it. The food itself was not great or that good. The cheese fries were not good at all, although my brother liked them. The chicken and fish basket we ordered was just 3 very small pieces of Chicken, no ranch or sauce and no fish. I had to ask about our sundae and received it in a small bowl, not the same size the previous employee had brought out earlier and no whip cream, which I noticed the sundae earlier did have. Overall this place is a dysfunctional mess! The employees are careless, the wait was a few minutes shy of an hour and the food was definitely NOT worth the wait. Ouch. Food was fairly standard salty road side restaurant food - but at a high cost ($30 for a sparely filled sandwich, salad with cured meat, 8 oz coffee($3!!), and 8 oz hot chocolate ($3!!) Super friendly, don't expect gourmet from a mercantile, but they do awesome. We went for breakfast a couple times while staying at the Lodge across the street. Pancakes were scrumptious, I think they use yellow cake mix or something, and cost like $2.75. That was the wife, I had a basic breakfast, eggs, potatoes, sausage, and toast. Everything was up to diner standards, and we left full and happy. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by the cafe inside this less than stellar general store. I believe the store itself is a work in progress so I am not going to knock it here. The cafe offers up very reasonably priced food that (for the price) is quite good. The only downside with the cafe is that it is a cafe tucked inside a general store (i.e. don't expect much in the way of ambiance). We stayed at the Lake Quinault Lodge but wound up having a breakfast, afternoon snack (lunch) and even a dinner here. Our meals here were much easier on our wallet compared to those at the Lodge but were surprising pretty high quality. For our afternoon snack I tried their version of a cheesesteak and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the steak, cheese, and the nice added kick from the horseradish sauce. My wife had a curry cream cheese spread in a pita with all kinds of great veggies in it. Each sandwich was under $6. Our breakfast consisted of a very tasty biscuits & gravy and french toast. Again, kudos to the chef. This meal came to under $20 with 2 coffees. We pressed our luck with one more meal here of pizza. Although I'm pretty sure they don't make their own dough the crust was still decent. Same for the sauce and the toppings were all very fresh. High marks again for the Merc. Our pizza ran $12 and it fed two comfortably. One more thing... we also did try the ice cream which, although they were out of several varieties and also hot fudge (my only go to topping), also receives high marks. I didn't catch the name of the creamery where they got their ice cream but I would rate it above average to very good. read more
