    Lack of meats, and onions and peppers in an Italian sub?
    Brenardo S.

    Only people here, been waiting 45 mins for a cold sub and no updates. Edit- Of the 30 years I have spent being alone on this planet, I have never had a worse sandwich than the one I received at the mercantile. It was underwhelming, small, and lacked condiments. Being an Italian sub, it is a disgrace to all Italians. I reccomend a dirt sandwich, because you can get your money's worth, and it'll be done within the decade.

    Delicious food, friendly people, good price, absolutely amazing. My girlfriend and I stayed at the lodge directly across from here and the food there was way pricey, very lucky to have this hidden gem

    When we made our breakfast order we asked how long it would take and the woman said 6 minutes. We waited for more 20 minutes before receiving our order of two breakfast sandwiches.

    Seems they were a bit overwhelmed by my vegetarian sub request. There was a slice of tomato, onion and a Green leaf on my sub...should have gone for the cheese Sandwich(;

    Bear pancake!!!!

    The store itself carries essential forgotten items just not backpacks! A toothbrush will cost you about $2 they have everything from hats to gloves, some camping stuff and even memorabilia of your stay. We also had a chance to eat at the cafe.... although it did take some time the time is compensated by how your meal tastes.... it's pretty good. They also made my sons pancake into a bear which was a nice touch.

    This is a good representation of diner food. Was very filling stick to your ribs food. It was delicious. Be prepared to wait because it is small but it is worth it. I would recommend the pancakes, they were perhaps the best pancakes I've ever had.

    Delicious custom pizza. They can make pizza per your preferences!!

We ordered the roast chicken and I think it was pot roast (forgot already). Food was tasty and hit the spot after a long day of travel from NYC to Seattle then driving hours before a roadblock delayed our arrival to the Lodge. PLEASE do yourself a favor and go to The Salmon House down the street instead. The Roosevelt Room is priced on the view and while it's a great view with good ambiance, the food & service are a complete letdown. We weren't given plates for appetizers, the finished appetizer dish was left on our table the whole meal, and we had to practically beg for water refills. Somehow the garlic biscuits with butter were the best food item we had. The Garlic shrimp appetizer were some of the blandest shrimp we've eaten, covered in flavored breadcrumbs. The shrimp themselves seemed hardly seasoned at all. We also tried the pot roast & roosevelt burger. These honestly weren't bad but cost far more than they should for the quality. Hate to say that we'd never eat here again. It was an expensive rollercoaster of poor experience.

Our party included 3 adults - my son, daughter and myself. Our waitress brought drinks and took our order at 5:06 - a promising start. Unfortunately, that was the last time we saw her until our food arrived at 5:58. No check-ins, no refills, no updates, nothing. When my daughter unwrapped her silverware, the utensils were filthy with food caked on from the previous user. We understand mistakes happen, so she simply grabbed a clean setup from the empty table beside us and moved on. In hindsight this was a red flag. The real disappointment was the food. My son ordered the Spicy Shrimp Pomodoro Pasta. The dish arrived with exactly four shrimp and what can only be described as a child-sized portion of angel hair pasta placed in the center of an oversized plate. The shrimp themselves were seasoned well enough, but the pasta was devoid of any seasoning whatsoever. It was bland to the point of being unfinished. My daughter and I both ordered the Chicken Marsala, a dish we regularly enjoy at many restaurants. What arrived was a very small chicken cutlet (I cannot in good faith call it a chicken "breast" as stated in the menu) with sauce, a scoop of mashed potatoes, and a grilled vegetable.The whole dish was lukewarm at best. The chicken was shockingly dry - genuinely some of the driest chicken I've ever been served in a restaurant. It honestly tasted as though it had been cooked days before and reheated. We've had beef jerky with more moisture. At that point we wanted to speak with our waitress, but once again she was nowhere to be found. No doubt hiding in the kitchen because she had to have known what she was serving us. We ate what we could because we still had a drive of more than two hours ahead of us and did not want to stop again elsewhere. We refused to let the experience completely ruin our evening, but it absolutely put a damper on what was supposed to be a nice dinner for my son's last night in town. For a dinner that ultimately cost well over $125, the overall experience was incredibly disappointing. Long stretches with no service, dirty utensils, and extremely dry entrées are simply not what one expects at that price point. Poor service can happen anywhere. Serving food of this quality while seemingly absent from the dining room altogether reflects a much larger issue with how customers are being treated. We frequent the Olympic Peninsula, but we will never eat at Kalaloch Lodge again.

    honestly this place is really good considering it's in pretty remote place…read more they for sure price gouge you but where the hell else are you going to get a filet mignon steak without driving 2 hrs round trip. just acknowledge that they have you by the balls and then move on and enjoy the meal. appreciate this restaurant for what it is, don't compare to similar price point fine dining in Seattle. the fish and chips are good, coleslaw was fresh and fish came out piping hot. solid beer batter. NY strip was good but shrimp needs cocktail sauce since it was poached. they should either grill the shrimp and brush with butter and parsley or serve it with cocktail sauce/horseradish. Chowder was good but luke warm. Turn up the heat in the soup warmer.

We got here around the afternoon and were able to check in to the room and then walk around the area to explore. It was a little chilly but bearable. I didn't realize early June would still feel a little cold, but alas, we were up north amongst the misty emerald green forest so I imagine it's expected. The lodge is close to several hiking trails, a creek that flows out to the lake and from the restaurant lodge and patio, a beautiful view of the lake and mountains. When dinner came around we were pretty famished. I decided to try their copper river salmon entree and my boyfriend got the mac and cheese. Aunt Carol got the sliders and we all shared the lovely dessert . As soon as our waiter told us their pastry chef had an Ube cheesecake, we had to try it! Everything was delicious. Especially being that they are pretty far from most places, the dinner was quite creative and impressive. The Ube cheesecake was served with blackberries and it was more of a light fluffy cheesecake than a rich and heavy cheesecake. The Berry crumble was crunchy and tart. I got to have a bite of the mac and cheese and it was warm and tasty. We left happy and satisfied with our meals ready to relax in our room. The room was simple and comfortable. The only thing missing was a top sheet on one of the queen beds but it was quickly remedied. Our room was a short walk from a parking lot and a short distance to walk along the lake too. I love that there was a back door to the room with chairs outside to enjoy the area. Check in and check out was easy. The staff were helpful and happy to answer any questions we had about the stay, hiking trails, and anything else. The lodge itself had a welcoming and warm vibe with comfy leather chairs and a game of chess at the ready. We truly enjoyed our stay here and hope to stop here again if our adventure takes us this way. We headed back home extra thankful Aunt Carol thought to book this place. There was so much noise all night long from the lodge downstairs. The gaps under the doors and windows allowed all the sounds to come from the hallway and adjoining room as well. Just awful.
