This was a very conveniently located Safeway in port Angeles! My mom and I were road tripping around the Olympic peninsula and coming from the coast on a Monday, so we stopped here to get dinner and gas. The deli is open later here (until 9 on the Monday we came in July) and they had lots of options for dinner. We got some baked chicken, veggies, and pasta and ate in the car since there weren't any tables around to sit. It got the job done for like $12, we were both fed! This Safeway store is the "Best" Safeway store on the Peninsula. They work the dream for Quality Customer service. I hope corporate values these people who work here. Corporate you need to clean up the mess with the Sequim store. The way they treat the elderly is terrible. I called corporate for help at Sequim and it is back to the same issues. We are in our 80's and it is worth it to drive to Port Angeles. Some of the seniors have no car and are dependent on people driving them to get their groceries. What goes around comes around. This review is on the deli. I go there sparingly because it's hectic and you have to wait in at least 2 lines. But never again now. I got teriyaki chicken and garlic chicken. It was gross. Friday ~around 8AM I got a jalapeño cheese bagel. It was SO good. Fresh, chewy, cheesy AF, jalapeños were pickled and were *just right.* It was .99 cents. Unbelievably good! It was so delicious. I regret not buying more. And I'll tell you what, because I'm out and about traveling I just ate it as is and did not miss having it toasted. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOOO GOOD! I tried the Safeway drive up and go yesterday. What a pleasant surprise. Ordering on line was easy.. I received a text that my order was ready. I notified them through the app that I was on my way. I pulled into spot 4 in the drive up and go area and texted them, again through the app, that I had arrived. Within one minute, Sam, the smiling Safeway employee was standing at my window with a free bottle of water asking me where I wanted my groceries. All in all, one great experience as far as I'm concerned. I will definitely be using the Safeway drive up and go feature a lot more often. Especially if it's Sam bringing out my groceries.. This is the second time I have went to the deli sandwich area and not been helped. I'm guessing they're understaffed? I saw the cooks could see me (but were busy cooking) and no one greeted me or came over or found someone to get me service. There was someone cutting items at the front register with a headphone in, and even though he was right next to the sandwich area he said nothing. I just continued to stand there and no one ever came, so like last time I just left and drove somewhere else for food when I was already in a store where I should've been served. read more

This Safeway has an exceptional selection of products that you can't even get at the other Safeway in town or at local stores in Seattle! They had my favorite breads and yogurts here and I was pleased to see everyone following the mask rules. They also have a good selection of IPAs if that's your thing. My partner was impressed with that. We will definitely make the trek to this Safeway when we are in town to get our supplies to cook and relax when we are in the Olympic Peninsula! read more

I don't shop at Safeway at home but this is the only store in Port Angeles. Not knowing where anything is in the store I asked many different employees for guidance. Everyone I encountered was very friendly and helpful. Every time we went in they were quite busy but they have lots of check stands and many self checkout stands as well. The general staff are great, but the pharmacy is always behind and seems disorganized. I'm not sure there's great communication there and most places are understaffed, but they're always multiple employees there when I've gone to pick up medications so I'm not sure what the issue is. There isn't much privacy when you pick up your meds and expect a significant wait in the late afternoon or evening. Most of them are nice enough. The store itself is clean and the selection is decent for a small town! I wish it felt safer outside the store and in the parking lot. There's abandoned vehicles and some worrying people and behavior, especially later on in the day. I'm not sure why the town or Safeway can't do something about it. read more

Shelves constantly empty. Healthier items constantly discontinued. And this has been going on for YEARS... not just since COVID. Probably more since Albertsons took over. Bathrooms constantly dirty. Pharmacy disorganized and slow. Went there to get a MUCH needed medication yesterday and NONE of the card readers in the store were working. None. And this is typical. We stopped here to get some lunch for our trip to Hurricane Ridge. We got roast beef sandwiches on cheese rolls and potato salad with blue cheese and bacon and an egg roll. The sandwiches were delicious with fresh ingredients and healthy meat portions. The potato salad was rich and flavorful. The egg roll possibly one of the best I have had in years. Light crispy and loaded with juicy ingredients and meat. A must try! read more

Does Safeway value making money over the health of his customers? Safeway in Washington State is allowing customers to shop in their stores with no face masks despite the fact that not wearing a mask is a misdemeanor violation of the law. Face masks are mandated for all indoor shopping by all Washington citizens and businesses. I shopped this morning (June 27, 2020) at the Safeway on 3rd St in Port Angeles Washington. I talked to the manager who was very polite and said he "agreed" with me - but company policy does not permit the store to demand face masks. My decision is to shop where I'm safe because a grocery business cares as much for my health as they do for income. I won't be shopping in Safeway until they require their customers to follow the law inside the store. read more

Safeway: why the hell do you demand that your customers obtain a 'club' card to get sale prices on your goods? Stop it already. Just give me the sale price without demanding any goddamn card or phone number. I keep forgetting which fake phone number I used for the last dummy account I set up, and I'm tired of making new ones. I was surprised at the service at the pharmacy today. . I came from out of state and forgot my med from a CVS Pharmacy , I found one in Silverdale, all I wanted was to transfer it from there to Port Angeles Safeway. The prescription was an existing open order he tells me that the doctor needs to authorize it and the HIPAA law and it could take up to 2 weeks. He forced me to drive an hour and a half to Silverdale unless I wanted to pay $1,100 cash. I called back many times checking on my order he kept telling me doctor needs to authorize it finally my sister came down to check on the order and he hadn't entered it yet 3 hours later. Safeway has always had a bad reputation. I recall reading news reports about them even before living in state with Safeway stores. I think my pet peeve is their customer service desk. There's never someone there and when you're able to find someone. They always seemed annoyed. read more

I'm a fan of this safeway, the layout is pretty much the same as any other safeway. Everything was clean and the employees were surprisingly chipper. I had 3 employees say hi to me in the 7 minutes I was inside. Checkout line was long but moved quickly, there was a bagger and checker at each station. read more

Hate hate hate the club card. Really hate the new system where I have to go online to add sale prices to my card. This is a clean store that has serious management issues. You will wait forever in the deli. The food is NOT worth the wait. The pharmacy may actually be slower, and the staff there is incredibly rude. The floral department has some nice arrangements for reasonable prices, and I will say that the help there is always nice. The meat department used to be great, but the last couple of times I have been in and asked for help I was treated with disdain. I live and work very close to this store, so it is the most reasonable choice for a grocery store for me...but I avoid it if I can. It's that bad. Go to Albertsons up the hill. Better deli, meat department and prices. Staff is much nicer too. It's worth the five minute drive, and no stupid club card to deal with. read more

Let me start by letting you know I've worked for companies Publix, Winn-Dixie and Food Lion grocery stores with over ten years retail management experience. Additionally I worked for a private inspection company that is contracted to shop and inspect Albertsons grocery, which I performed for several years. So I know how things should be and what should not.  Over the last several months I've had nothing but terrible customer service at store 1492. Unfortunately the issues don't end there. -November & December, foreign object in prepared deli food. Both times large chicken bones. Different products each time. I have photo and receipt evidence of this as I considered litigation on second occurrence because it chipped my front tooth when I bite into the sandwich. And I still have chipped tooth. Thanks. -Shelftags. This store roughly estimated only has 60-70% of items priced. At least one out of three items I have no idea what the cost is. Additionally where there are tags, quite commonly it's the wrong tag. I know this because as retail veteran I almost always compare and check upc's to be sure I'm buying what's advertised. -Meat dept. This is the worst. Worst meat dept in the country. Country folks. First it's a regular occurrence that meat is not properly stored in refrigeration cases. They stack it above the refrigeration theshold and air curtains. Usually when there is sale item. Most recently though it happened with 'managers special'  section. The meat was stacked so high that I know for a fact from touch it was no longer in the food safe zone as it was warm touch. I informed the meat dept of this. The response was a shoulder shrug and I don't know. I explained the situation as here to no effect.  -Now the final straw came this past Friday when I wanted a price check on ground beef. There was no item tag per usual. The meat/seafood dept decided they couldn't help me as there rudely responded. Pam was her name. She even stated that she only deals with seafood and didn't know anything nor could she help me. So I went to customers service where I thought I'd get the answers. But still no. Customer service was able to eventually give the unit price but not the price per pound which is why I inquired to begin with. This was important to me in determining which beef product I bought. To which, I left the store with NO merchandise out of complete frustration with your company.  I will not shop at this store again until there is management change all around, from store manager to meat dept. Especially the meat dept. Not only me but also several of my friends and family. I know that I spend on average between $4-500 a month at that store. So as an estimate, I'm taking $3,500 of business elsewhere(Wal-Mart). This store is worst shopping experience in the country. Hands down. It even reflects in employee attitudes and faces. They are all miserable working there and how they treat customers reflects that. read more

I had a very bad experience with a pharmacy staff member yesterday but the pharmacist today saved the day and all is well.

Just traveling through town, I mentioned it was my boyfriends birthday. Several cashiers wished him happy birthday over the speaker system and offered us a Safeway card that saved us $50.
