My husband was transported to Forsyth from Northern Hospital in Mount Airy. He spent a week at this facility. I was extremely pleased with his medical team. His Internist oversaw his case. She contacted me each day with a detailed update. She coordinated beautifully with both Cardiology and Oncology to ensure all disciplines coordinated efforts. The new cardiologist contacted me prior to performing a procedure to ensure I had clarity. By the end of the week I was able to navigate around the hospital without getting lost but there were always helpful staff members who went above and beyond to help guide me. Parking here is horrible. One more I drove around the parking deck for 20 minutes before finally parking in a no parking spot. Because I was on the 5th level I assume they don't monitor it closely. Fortunately I didn't get a ticket or towed. Parking on Saturday and Sunday was easy. Week days are tough. I paid $3 to $4 for parking each day. Someone said that you can purchase a pass which allows unlimited in and outs for the day. I didn't look into that option. Another plus is the food. I ate in the cafeteria. Many food options on the weekdays and limited options on weekends. I didn't get the best chicken Alfredo ever earlier in the week. My husband enjoyed his food as well. All in all, if you have to be hospitalized, Forsyth may be a good option. read more

This is the worst hospital I have ever been in! I had a surgery by an orthopedic surgeon by the name of Joseph Veneziano Junior it's been seven weeks since my surgery and I still can't walk. I'm in pain 24 seven I can't do anything for myself. I don't know what this guy did to me but he messed me up. Go to Wake Forest Baptist do not go to Forsyth ED! The CNA's are rude and most of the nurses are and they've got to be very unhappy people because they act miserable towards you! It's a godforsaken place don't go there. Do not go there go to Wake Forest Baptist. Please do yourself a favor. If they had an option to put no stars, that's what they would get. My floor crew was also exceptional as were transport. Thanks to Darious and James in transport. Friend was sent to emergency room for heart failure needing hospice care. She is uninsured and has been waiting for over 12 hours. I arrived 3 hours after her, was seen treated and discharged, and she was still waiting. I went to ask the nurses station why she had not received a room before me or even why she didn't get the room that opened up for me and that if it had anything to do with her being uninsured, and the nurse got unbelievablely ugly and nasty and started asking if she was mute and then proceeded to remove me from the property while waiting on my ride in 40 weather wearing nothing more than a basket ball shirt and t shirt when I am already sick. If I catch a cold from this I will be filing a complaint on my behalf and I wish I could file a complaint on my friends behalf. Sick and disgusting and depraved animalis behavior I would expect so much more and better from health care professionals. And then of course security has to come and get tough with me and accuse me of arguing with the nurse when she is the one who got aggressive and defensive and argumentative over me simply asking a question out of concern for the well being of another human being; something we clearly cannot expect from this medical facility, if you can even call it that as that would indicate reasonable expectation of adequate care. On the whole, Forsyth is better than most hospitals I've experienced. Physicians seemed to be MIA in the ER, but once my dad was admitted the staff was on top of things. Of course, it's hard to recommend a service provider that you really don't want to have to patronize. But Forsyth would be kne I'd choose in Winston-salem. read more

My wife was admitted February 2nd through the ER and released 5 days later. Unfortunately, t took until the following day to find her a room. While in the ER she asked for food and was given what appeared to be an old stale sandwich, unable to eat. Finally, they found a room on the 4th floor. That is when the fun began. Due to medication given that caused diarrhea, she had to use the bathroom. That being said, with IV therapy and a catheter in he stomach, she was unable to get to the bathroom. When asked for help via the intercom, the receptionist at the nurses station immediately answered but she never sent the help causing my wife to soil the bed. This happened on at least 3 occasions. My wife had to strip the bed leaving a plastic mattress to lay on. The only time someone was sent was when I personally went to the nurses station to complain only after being ignored again thru the intercom. On another occasion, the same issue happened and , after waiting an hour for someone to change the bed, the CNA handed her a clean sheet and left. My wife had to make her own bed. My wife needed peritoneal dialysis twice while there. The first time an alarm sounded for a clogged tube. Being recently trained, I inspected the tubing and found no obstructions. I silenced the machine and called for assistance. Again, was told help was coming. After 30 minutes and no help, I went to the nurses station once again. A girl answering the intercoms and dispatching help told me she would call a dialysis nurse. She picked up a phone and at the same time to call dialysis, another phone rang and she answered that phone. Upon hanging up, she never called for the specialized nurse. She then told me someone would be coming soon. Not sure how she knew that without talking to anyone. The same thing happened again with a tubing alarm. This time I noticed fibrin in the toilet, a tissue like substance that sometimes happens with dialysis which can cause a blockage. We called once again and again was told help would come. Never did. After an hour, her nurse heard the alarm and came in to silence it and he called the dialysis nurse directly. The dialysis nurse stated she was never notified nor her floor nurse was not as well. They attempted to remedy the issue over the phone with no luck My wife's nurse stopped the dialysis process and notified the doctor who was not happy it took so long to contact him. It was found her blockage was in the tubing deep inside her. The delay getting the proper medicine to clear the blockage caused an extra day of treatment to clear the blockage and another day in the hospital. All of these issues came from lack of getting the proper messages to the proper folks to help whether it be medical or housekeeping. After all this, the day of discharge put the icing on the cake. My wife was told she was to be discharged. She told the staff I could not get there till around 6:30 PM due to work and a 30 minute drive. She was told no problem and was to stay in her room. Around dinnertime, my wife waited about an hour and a half with no dinner. She asked her CNA and was told they held her dinner at the nurses station as they thought she was on dialysis. She was not. She received her dinner cold and unable to eat. I called to let my wife know I was on my way and would be there in 30 minutes. She told her CNA to get transportation on the way. The CNA decided to wheel her down to the discharge area herself. The CNA stated and I quote "You told me he was here'" She was never told that at all. The CNA asked where I was. My wife called me and was told 20 minutes out. The CNA told my wife she had no time to wait and would have to bring her back to her room. All the time with a real attitude. After a several minutes, I arrived. She let her get in the car with no discharge instructions whatsoever. The experience was terrible. We all understand the nursing and support staff are busy, perhaps overwhelmed, but to ignore the people that are paying their salaries is simply wrong. If you work in the healthcare system and don't like it just remember your customers don't want to be there even more. You are at least getting paid for your time there...simply do your job. I did speak with a representative who took all of the information and said she would see that these issues be investigated and hopefully rectified. I do hope things get better, at least on that floor, so the next patient has a much better experience. read more

Rang the bell they answered but had no eagerness to come to the room and this is after a motorcycle accident. the room was dirty, blood on the floor, trash full, floor full of trash. I cleaned off the chairs with paper towel and sanitizer to sit down while my husband sit in pain. He wasn't yelling or loud enough I guess because he called out twice on the remote and it took over 45 mins. i do want to say the emergency room was not crowded packed or busy - nurses station was full of laughter and conversation. Emergency room for crushed toe. All the staff cringed when hearing about it. X-ray, Then without ANYONE looking at it for one second, they told me it was broken and they would give me a shoe. Dr. Frunza, I arrived at NH FMC ED at approximately 330 due having to wait on my daughter to get my grand baby, after your nurse called to advise you wanted me to return to the ER. And I have sat in the waiting room nearly 6 hours (913 pm) and still waiting. When I initially arrived the PA on duty said after he looked into the NH system that he doesn't know why you sent me over here. I had to tell them why. Then they call out patients by their last name, as you myine is very common and you have to yell out what's the first name. The fact that I was here with some of the symptoms of low WBC shortness of breath & chest pain last night and that PA didn't address the matter speaks volumes about Novant Health (NH) to top it off I'm sitting right now beside a lady that was also here last night and was sent home and had her dr send her back again today. The hospital has the basic COVID screening process upon entering. I mean only basic. It was never consistent. (I visited for a solid week) the facility is clean. The staff was good. My mom's room was ok'd but decent. My biggest problem was that the in-room bathroom was not large enough for the walker! The doors are narrow. She was totally unable to access the bathroom! Why would a patient with mobility difficulties be put in a space they could not access?!? More communication is needed. Too many times procedures were done without an explanation. Many times, elderly patients do not ask what is happening. Some of our CNAs and nurses were fantastic, while others needed to go back to bedside manner class. Overall, a basic experience. This is a difficult review to write. I have been told that Forsyth Hospital is the best in Winston Salem. If this is true then I can not imagine what the worst is, nor why this has been allowed to happen. I can only say the city government must not care about their citizens. My wife has been to this hospital twice. Once for a knee replacement and once a week later for complications. The first stay was not what I have expected. Of course we are used to hospitals in Iowa which are strictly regulated and the care governed closely. Her second stay started in the Emergency Room with a 22 hour wait. No food no water. Unable to get up and use the bathroom. Her meds we're withheld the full time and she was screaming in pain. I tried being patient and calmly tried to address these issues. Each time I was told there was no patient room available, and her meds could not be given while she was in ER. Nor could she have food or water. They would not allow her to get up to go to the bathroom. I am told this is common here. When I told them I would move her to a different hospital, I was told that Forsyth would not get paid by insurance and that I would be billed the full 31k. Finally when I let them know that I would be recording this mis-treatment and pursuing all legal remedies available to me, they changed their tune. They called a doctor and her meds were administered. Total time without her meds, water. 16 hours. She remained in ER for 22 hours. I found out the truth of the wait is not that they had a shortage of rooms. Actually the shortage was in nursing staff because they had laid off over 400 nurses to increase profits. Even in a patient room. Things were no better. I went home and when I returned the next day I found there no meds given. Her nurse had not attended to her even when summoned. There was 1 nurse for that wing. I took over her care including meds. Fortunately I trained as a nurse in my early life before moving to technology. The mismanagement at this facility is beyond belief in my opinion. They may not be able to have enough staff for care, but they have no problem with having staff to bill full price for the stay. I do NOT recommend trying this facility. read more

The ladies in the north unit are amazing I haven't delivered yet but had a few complications and had to stay overnight they were very attentive and my room was extremely clean loved how they constantly checked to see that me and baby were okay I feel very comfortable when it comes time to deliver that this is definitely the place to be and the food was great too read more

1. Finding the ER is insane for an elderly person who doesn't drive much. When my dad had blood pouring out of his behind and my mom, who drives very little, made it to the hospital. They told her to go to another part of the building. They are remodeling and basically it's a mess. My mother drove all the way back home(25 min.) and called an ambulance, she was crying when she called. It would seem that a hospital would actually help someone who needed it. 2. When I drive two hrs. in to help mom, they sent us in a wild goose chase to find his location. The lady at the information desk in the ER was plain and simple- rude and short and didn't have people skills. She said , " we have no one here by this name", as one of her smart ass answers . I held it together, but what a stupid thing to say. My mom's brother had just passed the week before and then her husband was bleeding out for unknown reasons. I had to hold it together, but wow, what a painful and awful experience for someone who is already emotionally distressed. 3. Very disappointed with care team, backstory here my sister gave labor here but team members took too long to operate looks like C-section on her and baby came with brain injuries and needed oxygen to breath. Very sad it happened to fast and they didn't know how to treat him fast enough. Team members couldn't attend her needs in a profesional manner or appropriate time. The other night, I spent about eight hours in the emergency room, at Forsyth Hospital. I want to say up front that during this time, I met two wonderful people, Denise and Jennifer. When I was checked in, a regular hospital identification bracelet was placed around my left wrist along with a blue bracelet. During the night, I was taken back for a chest X-Ray then brought back out to the waiting room to wait. Later, another person came out and took me back to get blood drawn, then back out to the waiting room. An hour or so later, this same person came out, took me back for more blood to be drawn and back out to the waiting room. An housr or so later, this same person came and took me back, third time for more blood and then back out to the waiting room. By this time, I began to feel that I was not being treated the same as other patients that showed up for treatment. I also got the gut feeling that the blue wrist band had something to do with it, so I began to ask any staff member that came by, what the blue wrist band meant. I found out that it meant that I was designated as a patient in an assisted living facility, somewhere. I let it be known, that I was not a nursing home patient anywhere and immediately, I was treated differently. Apparently someone, because of my age (almost 90 years old) and my address (Homestead Hills) labeled me as a nursing home patient. My wife and I live in an independent living complex, in a very nice, three bedroom apartment at Homestead Hills. I have never been spoken to as rudely as I was by the staff at this hospital. My daughter was there for an infection. We went into the ER and from the start it was nothing but wait. She stayed one night in the ER room in extreme pain. Finally got a room and was treated like she was trash. Went here on 5-8-2023 left on 5-9-2023. Went in via ambulance. From arrival to exit the gentle loving care was astronomical!!! Everyone treated me with respect and genuine concern. Please beware of CNA, Mariela. She will treat patients, as she did my mother, with blantant disrespect. She will throw bottles, cough out loud with no mask nor covering her mouth, and will throw medical supplies that harbor fluids! She also will purposefully cause altercations between housekeeeping and patients! Simple requests for closing the door on the GI floor is followed by foul attitudes and rude statements. I hope that their corporate or back office will take these complaints seriously as these are lives the staff deal with and should be treated properly and with care! read more

Their care for my son was awful he was there for 4 months almost and still has not recovered now they're sending him to another state away from his family and that's not good be rehabilitated because no one here in the state of North Carolina will take anybody that's been on a ventilator and has to do dialysis the doctor's lie there unprofessional as well as their case managers one of them named Jason That is rude and disrespectful to the patients when they got anxiety and depression and takes things out of their room when they shouldn't I know God says to forgive people but these people I can't forgive they have done nothing for me or my family or my son on day one when my son went in two nurses was in the ICU beating and banging on stuff they think I don't understand what's going on and I did when his blood pressure was dropping they told me not to worry about it I told him too bad that's my son and after that my son flatlined then they bring them back and then the doctor was very unprofessional saying do I want to resuscitate and we said yes because he's young and he act like he was mad about it cuz we wanted him to resuscitate him as much as it takes and he was mad because we asked him to keep doing that but you didn't have to but that one time also my son end up with three bed sores the nurses made of him wait two to three hours before they even went in there to change him so he sit in his feces that long he was tested for drugs for some reason with a urine test that come up positive to them but then it came up after they done a blood test that it was false positive so they lied about it when it came to being his medicine that caused him to have that I wouldn't even give this Hospital one star like I said the doctors in that case manager and some of the nurses is the lowest of the low you think that you can trust in a doctor no you cannot they lie that's all I got to say God be with them read more

After reading so many negative reviews, I must admit that my husband and I were scared when his heart catherization procedure was scheduled at this hospital. The procedure was scheduled for 10:30am on 2/25/2021, we were told to arrive at 8:30am. We arrived at 8:00am and our temperatures were taken before being allowed to proceed. Next, we answered more COVID-related questions and we were given stick-on ID badges. We proceeded to yet another area for insurance info. Finally, up to the Outpatient area. After signing in at the Waiting Room entry we noticed COVID social distancing seating was in place. At 8:37am my husband was called back for his pre-procedure prep. I was called back 15 minutes later. The Waiting Room and hallway to my husband's "bay #26" were clean. The standard type chairs for the patient's caregiver are not really comfortable, but what can be done? 10:30am came and went. There was a FIVE HOUR DELAY for my husband's procedure. This was not the hospital's fault and the nurse assigned to my husband were very apologetic. My husband's cardiologist was also very apologetic and explained he had had two emergencies. Finally, at 1:40pm my husband was wheeled to the O.R. I was sent back to the Waiting Room, signed in, and told in about 30 - 35 minutes I would be called with an update. Sure enough, I was given a call telling me "the pictures" were done and my husband did have a blockage in the front. I asked if it was in "the widow maker" location and told it was NOT. (At 3:15pm the cardiologist said it WAS in that location!). A stent was placed. The cardiologist arranged for Rm. 5116 for us since we would not be allowed to leave until after 7pm and it has a more comfortable bed and recliner for me! The nurses that attended my husband were great. He was given a food menu and told to order anything with a heart symbol beside it. The items he ordered were delivered within 20 minutes! The in-house Walgreens pharmacy called to verify his current meds and said they would be sending up his blood thinner med, Brilinta. It arrived within 30 minutes. Each of the two deliveries was by smiling, friendly people. I have sciatica and 8 hours of sitting in the horrible, hard chairs had caused my sciatica to flair up. Walking was a nightmare with pain shooting down my leg. We FINALLY were allowed at 10:00pm!!! I was also brought a wheelchair because there was no way I could have walked to the parking deck. I have watched my husband's wrist carefully where the catherization went through for signs of infection after reading all the negative reviews. So far there are no signs. Rm. 5116 was clean. The private bathroom was clean with a clean trashcan liner. RNs Sharon and Amanda (different shifts) were excellent and explained everything. The one CNA that came in was not so good and did not relay word of some bleeding in my husband's pressurized bandage. Sharon was not at all pleased with this. One strange thing happened around 6:45pm! A lady came into the room and introduced herself and gave her title. She explained that hospital policy dictated we must leave the hospital by 7pm. Since we had made it known that we wanted to leave ASAP, we asked her why she was telling us because we WANTED to go home! She was then relieved and happy and said she had been led to believe we wanted to stay! Considering we were not discharged til 10:00pm, hospital policy must not matter all that much. I guess we have no complaints, but due to do many complaints, I do not think we would return here if we had a choice. read more

They told me I didn't have a UTI just a muscle strain and then two days later in even more pain than before I went to baptist hospital and spent five days due to being septic from their wrong diagnosis when in fact I did have a UTI and a very bad one at that ! I don't want to say that I'm a "fan" of a hospital.....but my family member has received the best care and we are seeing improvement in their health. The staff is professional, helpful and courteous through out the hospital. Our journey started in the Emergency Department, to the 6th floor to ICU and back to the 6th floor. Each step of the way, we have been kept informed and updated on our family member's health. The cafeteria has a plethora of options to choose from. There's a pizza bar, soup option, salad bar, grill (hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, etc) and meat and veggie option. I appreciate the care and concern that is also shown to us as we visit our family member. Making sure we have what we need and are comfortable. It makes a difference to go the extra mile and it's appreciated it. I definitely noticed remarkable service and experience. read more

Story: I called for the nurse to come to my mother's room because she was having pain, swelling in the abdomen and shortness of breath. 90 minutes later the nurse came in and spent a while looking at the computer, finding that the computer did not work, and talking about the regular night- time medication. It was like I was watching someone stroll on a beach instead of caring for a patient. What I noticed the most about the staff here was the nonchalance. There was more chatting at the central station and in the hallways, there was an awful lot of staff chewing and popping gum, and this slow and careless response was a real problem. I just did not see the level of care I have seen at other hospitals. Is this the best they can do? read more

Why do you have to PAY to park at a hospital?! That's so ridiculous and greedy. I've never seen that until I moved to North Carolina. I gave birth here at this hospital and my midwives were THE BEST. I had to be put on pitocin which is a labor inducer, also known as lucifers liquid. The nurse didn't seem to care about my pain level when she kept upping my dose. Ugh thank god my midwife came in and stopped it. My stay there was okay. Food wasn't bad and the 2 nurses taking care of me after I gave birth did a good job and were very informative and friendly. However when my husband noticed my 1 day old daughter was having mild seizures the nurses at the desk blew him off. There was no urgency what so ever. Sickening. That is the main reason I'm giving this three stars. If someone says "seizure" you need to get off your ass and do something. read more

I was amazed not only by the professional and courteous staff but also by the food being actually very good! I had grilled chicken, brown rice and hot tea... And a brownie! The chicken was a little dry but the flavor was amazing! Also I lived when I called to order the food downstairs, they have it set to alert and block any allergies you have so it won't let them order something you may react to. For me, I'm allergic to peanuts and since they cook in peanut oil, blocked it so I switched to grilled chicken! Love this feature! The room, staff and good food are a plus especially not feeling well. :) they listen to you as a patient and not a number. read more

I have lived in WS all my life and will never go to this ER again. Worst and most traumatic experience ever. Went in for chest pain and was kept waiting for 4 hours. On three different occasions, when I inquired about my test results and when would I see a doctor, I was asked if I had MyChart and if so, I could look up my own results. Ok, I thought that was what you were getting paid to do. Finally, after 4 hours, I was put in a bed and was finally seen by Dr. Andrew Pylant. This man began to rant and lecture me when I asked if my chest pain could be caused by the COVID vaccine. From that moment on, I felt like I was dismissed as an anti-vaxxer lunatic. If he had bothered to look, he would have seen I did get my vaccines. Now I am being charged $2500 for a level 5 ER visit which is an escalated visit. Sure would hate to be a level 1. The doctor never even examined me, was rude and condescending and downright incompetent. When I disputed the bill, I am being told after 2 reviews, they have deemed my care appropriate. People, you have rights as a patient and that right includes challenging a bill. I will go to my grave without giving this hospital another dime of my hard-earned money. read more

I was honestly scared to come here because I've heard not so great things, but both the regular ED and OB/ED provided great care. Yasmine was the nurse in the regular ED that I'll never forget. She was so sweet, knowledgeable, and was on top of everything especially when I could eat which I very much appreciated. read more

If I could leave a negative star on this page I would. NEVER have I experienced such horrible service by a place that is entrusted with such delicate matters as one's health. When I was admitted, I was supposed to be in Baptist but the facilities were full so they referred me to Forsyth Medical Center. I was 8 months pregnant and my amniotic fluid was low and I was dehydrated. I was placed into the hospital in order to get fluids pumped into me so that my daughter (who was breach), could get her fluids back up in hopes that we would not have to have her five weeks early. I was in the triage area receiving a bag of fluids through an IV. After being in the triage area for hours, I was admitted into a room in order to receive constant fluids overnight to get mine and my daughter's fluid levels up. The staff I dealt with in the triage area were very helpful and kind. This was seemingly the last point that I dealt with a competent nurse. After being admitted into a room, I waited for 4 hours with my mother with no IV in my arm, no nurse assistance other than to check blood pressure and no help whatsoever. Finally, we buzz the nurse in and ask when I am going to get my IV or the fluid bag that is the sole purpose of my being there. The nurse seemed confused by this question stating that she did not know I was to have fluids. Again, THIS WAS THE SOLE REASON I WAS ADMITTED. My mother then explained that she should look at my chart and if I am not ordered to have fluids, we would be going home as there is no point in my sitting in a hospital bed watching TV. The nurse then left and came back almost an hour later when 'coincidentally' the orders just came through saying I needed a fluid bag. It is literally a bag of saline. That is all. It would not have taken 5 hours for the orders to come through. She then proceeded to place my IV in and that was one of the most painful encounters with an IV that I have had. It hurt worse than the spinal tap that I had when I gave birth or any other IV I have ever had. Not once was I directed on how to order food nor did anyone ask me if I would like dinner or lunch. Luckily, I had plenty of family and friends visiting who went to pick me up food. My boyfriend had the audacity to ask for a pillow and/or blanket to sleep with overnight and the nurses and CNAs acted as though it was the biggest hassle for them to do.....To try and make a long story shorter, the majority of my remaining experience with the staff was consistent with the aforementioned experience. Luckily, I did not have to give birth in this place as I am scared I would have ended up with the wrong child. However, I received a bill for about $4,500 in November. This was fine. I had no issue with that as I understand I had not yet met my insurance deductible. However, after receiving another copy of the $4,500 in December (again, no problems with this), I received ANOTHER bill in January for over $5,000. This did not make sense to me as they already charged me for everything they (poorly) did. My boyfriend and I tried to call and discuss, however, we were placed on hold for 30+ minutes and we have jobs so we cannot just sit on hold for hours on end. A lady called me a day or two later (today, actually) and was going over my bill. She kept referencing the $4,500 bill so I then asked about the larger bill. She then seemed confused but found it and stated that this was for the ultrasound they performed on me. I was already charged for this and confused as to why this bill magically showed up three months later. She offered no real explanation other than blaming my insurance. Mind you, I work in a call center. I respect customer care advisors and people like this lady. I know how one is to conduct themselves on the phone, however, she became sassy and was not helping me or explaining. She kept stating it was such a large amount because I did not meet my deductible yet which, as I repeatedly explained, I UNDERSTOOD. She is not the source of my anger, I understand it is not her fault. I just did not appreciate her tone at the end. It takes a lot for me to be this upset at something and I just cannot fathom the constant, recurring issues with this facility and the never ending stress it is causing me and my family.
