After my niece lost her Klee Kai last year, we started regularly visiting the Humane Society. We…read moredidn't adopt, but we enjoyed spending time with the animals and it was like therapy for my niece. Finally, a few months ago, we found Bonnie. My niece loved her. Her boyfriend and I picked Bonnie up as a surprise and she was thrilled. Unfortunately, it turned out Bonnie needed to be the only dog in a home. She's okay meeting other dogs but after spending too much time with them, she gets a little aggressive. Our family has many dogs of all sizes and we are a close family, so it was not going to work out. My niece did not want to send Bonnie back to living in a kennel, so she talked to a good friend of hers and introduced him to Bonnie. It was a perfect match--he has no other pets, and she adored him right away. They went to the Humane Society and transferred ownership. She kept visiting the dogs and finally a litter of Shih-Tzu c Basenji pups came in. She found herself a new partner in crime and is happier than I've seen her in a while. Her boyfriend's dog, Waffles (also from the Humane Society), has just about adopted the new baby, Lilo, as her own. She looks out for her, keeps the out family's other dogs away from her, has actually nudged her into a kennel and shut the door when they wouldn't stop bothering her, and even let her back out of her kennel in the middle of the night! The folks here at our Humane Society are so great, and they work so hard to make sure all of the dogs brought to them feel loved until they're adopted.

Today, we had the unenviable task of taking one of our dogs there to be put to sleep. Every person…read morewe met was incredibly warm and compassionate. They made sure his final moments were as comfortable as possible. A big thank you.
