It's a beautiful urban park: well maintained by polite, shaka-throwing workers. Not just the beach part - be sure to wander the lovely grounds and marvel at the greenery. Watch out for crazy chickens, though!

Great place to watch the fireworks on Friday night. Saw a seal close to the shore in the AM

Fort DeRussy Beach Park spans 71 acres and is a beach-front military reservation in Waikiki. The beach park is named after General René Edward De Russy, a US Army officer who participated in the Civil War. He was also a military fort builder and this was one of the 5 Fort DeRussys in the United States along with two in Louisiana, one in Washington D.C., and one in Kentucky. The beach area was a smaller beach compared to other ones in the Waikiki area, but that meant there were fewer people. There were great views with such blue and clear water. The park area had tables and tennis courts, racquetball courts, volleyball courts, and a children's playground. The beach park is also the location of the Hawaii Army Museum Society which was a super cool museum that I highly recommend.

Quiet clean park right in Waikiki. Chill. Grill. Beach volleyball run walk tennis or even the army museum. So much to do. Clean. Lots of open space. Also pretty well lit. Right next to hale koa hotel. And in Waikiki. Great place for you and family.

On my trip to Hawaii I planned on playing pickle ball, problem was I couldn't find a review that I could be certain that a location had pickle ball. This beach/ park has two courts right by the KOA Oasis booze shack. The courts aren't the greatest but enough to get a good game going. They have some paddle system but when I went, there weren't many players so we didn't really have to wait too long. There are bathrooms nearby and it's right on the beach. Everyone was nice and inclusive -haha not like the horrible bully Jackie lady that I keep reading about that plays at the Diamond Head tennis center. I am sure it all depends on what day you go to play, not everybody plays nice. Please remember to drink plenty of water. Between drinking alcohol and being in the sun all day the day before my feet were cramping up. I had to stop playing after four games.

This park is so beautiful and relaxing. The trees are amazing to look at and provide great shade if you are looking to sit down and enjoy the weather without having the sun straight in your eyes. It is also spacious so you aren't running into anyone else.

2 free public pickleball courts. Sol got me a really nice paddle and I finally let him teach me how to play pickleball. There are no wind guards but it was a decent public court. There are tennis courts, tables, racquetball courts, beach volleyball, and you can rent beach activity equipment. Well maintained beach with a couple of food/drink spots. We came here every night to watch the sunset. So pretty and calming!

On my first three months in Oahu, I always wandered in this beach park. Not only it gives me peace but it makes me give time to reminisce things from the past & that I couldn't believe I actually reside here in Hawaii. So neat, so green... the bluish color of the ocean vast & the sky make everything so juanderful (wonderful) & so gorgeous! Ain't that crowded compare to Waikiki Beach. Plenty of shade too, thanks to the coconut tree! They're a savior! A group of family would be so happy to be here having a perfect spot for barbecuing! Enough space for the keiki to play around. Or if you are just alone and need some "me-time" this suits for you to! Hang around of working on your tan or just have your lunch in here while staring the horizon. No matter what you'll do in here, for sure you'll be having a great time in this beach. Mahalo & happy juandering fellow yelpers. @hello.juanderpinay www.juanderbandit.world

The park is very well-kept overall, green and peaceful. There are far fewer people here than farther down or up the Waikiki beach strip and unlike other parks (e.g. Ala Moana Regional Park), there are no or very few homeless people, so no encampments dot the grounds. I ran through here every day, in the early-morning hours, on my last trip to Oahu, and it was nice to have the grounds to myself. There are a few concrete picnic tables and benches if you'd like to bring a sack meal, and a few yoga/qi gong classes take place in the park on some mornings, which are fun to watch. The Hawaii Army Museum Society is also located on the grounds, but as of now (April 2022), it is temporarily closed for renovation.

Great beach, very clean. Far end off Waikiki so Not as many tourists and if you are Military you can use the Hale Koa facilities. If you look long enough and hard enough there are turtles here. Decent waves at times. Snorkeling isn't the best but there are some fish to be seen. The beach is closed between 2-5am. When not under COVID restrictions you can rent umbrellas, chairs, big water bikes, and floating mates.

Review #206 - 2019 I'm not a big fan of going to the beach because I do not enjoy putting on sunblock nor do I enjoy the scorching sun beating directly on me. However, since the girls love playing in the sand & getting their feet wet, what can I say? We showed up around 5 PM on Thursday, August 8th, and were lucky enough to find a parking spot across from the Trump Hotel so I decided to sneak a photo in front of it. Haha The girls spent about an hour at the beach & they had a great time. They saw some tiny fishes closer to land & had a lot of fun just running into the water & trying to chase the ocean waves. We took some pretty nice pictures with the beautiful views. The sand was very fine so it felt nice & soft between our toes. They were actually kind of sad when it was time to leave, but we had to go to dinner at 6:30 PM so we couldn't stay longer.

Beautiful beach in the Waikiki area. Beach stands are available to rent umbrellas, chairs, and kayaks.

Plaques offer fascinating overviews of the history and geology of the landmarks below. We could even see inside the famous tuff cone, Punch Bowl! Nearby is the first macadamia nut orchard in Hawaii. The overviews are paved with railings and easily accessible. The Park offers picnic areas with a couple pavilions and picnic tables. There is a charge for non-resident parking of $7 that can be paid electronically. Resident parking is free. Parking is limited, but there are several parking areas. Literally as Yelp direction kept leading me to Kapiolani Community College though close but not where it's at as it's actually to the left of Diamond Head State Park entrance which is quite easy to find. This little park is a slight hidden place that's pretty green and decently maintained with a couple of areas for you to enjoy one is closer to the entrance that has a lovely peek of the Wilhemina Rise area and a lovely place that I thought would be the perfect photo op spot for a cool gift from a thoughtful friend with BunBun is this cool cooler tote from TJ's! Using one of a bunch of stones and some benches for a place to relax and noticed a giant rock with a plaque that's a time capsule which will be opened on October 24, 2049! Been wanting to visit here for years as the last time was probably in elementary school for a field trip, and I forgot what exactly was here. It was closed during and after covid for years, then reopened to private functions only, and had no idea when it was reopened to the public. $10 for adults ($4 for Kama'aina and military) 7 for ages 6-12, under 6 (and Kama'aina and military) is free. Moanalua Gardens is conveniently located right next to the H-1 freeway. Heading westbound direction is very easy. Note: the parking entrance is literally right before the off ramp. Look for the "Moanalua Gardens" signs. Take the Tripler exit. Look for the entrance on the right. If you're on the off-ramp, you passed it. But that's okay! You can make a right (H-1 eastbound, you'll make a left at the Triper off-ramp), then left on Mahiole St, and turn in the next driveway. You'll drive through the service entrance to the parking lot. Plenty of parking! Pay at the entrance kiosk where they also sell snacks and drinks. Once inside, there's a moss/algae and leaf filled pond. There's koi fish, but the water is dark and murky, you can barely see their bright colors. King Kamehameha V's cottage that looks like a like a usual house. A Chinese style structure that looks like it has seen better days. Both are not accessible. As for the rest, the "Hitachi" monkeypod trees are all well maintained. Even though, there's PLENTY of monkeypod trees around the island, there's not many that's grown in this wide, umbrella shaped figure with branches close to the ground. Overall, it's cool to see the umbrella shaped Hitachi trees in a wide open, park-like space, but the other areas are not very well-maintained. There's not much else to do with some places restricted making it difficult to appreciate the history and importance. Charging $10 regular entrance fee, even the $4 Kama'aina fee, isn't worth it to just go in a what is basically a park. Isn't Hitachi paying atleast $400,000 per year to use the image of the tree in their advertising?
