Took the kids here for a picnic while gazing away with views of the majestic ocean. We found a bench which overlooks the waters. It was a nice bright sunny day. Really enjoyed the time together with my kids. So peaceful while we bond and laughed. But.....this park was full of homeless and cops every where. Mixed feelings were rolling in like if we should be worried or if it was safe at the park. There were tons of people, but everyone minded their own business so no one bothered us. I set the thought aside of something bad was going to happen so I can enjoy the day. We went to the beach took pictures and soak in the beauty. The water was so warmed and clear. Wanted to stay longer and dip in, but my son was looking forward to the arcade elsewhere. Good quick spot to stop by intaking breathtaking views of Honolulu. read more

I want to gate-keep this park, but alas it is publicly known and accessible, which it should be. I was introduced to this park through a picnic organized by a school club that I belong to. Magic Island is a nice place to gather, catch up, and chat. It is close to the ocean/beach, so you get to experience both a park as well as the beach. (This should be good in terms of fengshui.) My group of friends decided to reconvene here for a Thanksgiving potluck, and it was a truly wonderful time. Ala Moana really spoils you. read more

Magic Island is a fun spot to visit in Honolulu because there's always something going on - people BBQing, couples taking engagement photos, kids playing, runners, hammock loungers... it's a vibe. I ran a 5K here and loved it since the path is flat and easy. The sunsets are unreal (think fiery pinks and oranges). Just a heads up though that the park closes at night, so make sure to read the car signs so that your car doesn't get towed! read more

I got there around 9:45am and the party started at 11:00am till whenever lol. I got lucky I found a parking close to the grass area where all the picnic area is located. My niece reserved picnic area #38 which was farther than I thought closer to the backside beach lagoon . Closer for all the Keiki's when it's swimming time . She also rented a jumping castle for the kids . Food was ordered from Fukuya and it was not bad It was a beautiful day little winds and not that hot because we all was underneath a big tree . The beach lagoon is calm, making it easy for families, and the grassy areas are great for barbecues, or just get togethers plus the sunsets here are beautiful! The park is well-maintained, with paved paths, shaded picnic tables, and plenty of room to spread out. The public restrooms leave a lot to be desired, so plan ahead if that's a concern. Ala Moana Shopping Center is close enough for a quick snack run, bathrooms, or parking on busy days. It's never too crowded (unless there's a big event), and there are a few different free parking options nearby. read more

Very beautiful and big seaside park, lots of beautiful trees that are tall and old, all around gorgeous natural beachfront views on at least 3 sides of the park. Diamond head is visible from the beach here. There are bathrooms. There is plenty of parking. Lots of waterfront views. A wonderful place to see the sunset. Looks like a very alive park with lots of local youth and families actively enjoying this lovely park. read more

Love coming here for sunset walks! Very peaceful and relaxing especially at night. Well lit throughout the park. You can also watch the fireworks from here that launch on Fridays around 7:45pm-8pm. Very popular for luaus and family activities here! Safe place to walk, run, bike, do yoga, or even seen people rollerblade here. One of my favorite spots to watch the sunrise/sunset. Everytime we come here to walk, I never fail to see a young Japanese couple taking their wedding photos here. I've even seen someone hosting their wedding ceremony here. Not surprising as the view speaks for itself! Recommend bringing people of all ages here. Plenty of parking. read more

Magic Island is a must stop for me every time I'm back in Oahu. This beautiful lagoon on the east side Ala Moana Beach Park features a small, quiet beach with crystal clear waters protected by a seawall. The shore is fairly shallow, and you can safely walk it before it begins to get deep. The water is FILLED with tiny little fish that will swim all around you, truly giving credence to this lagoon's name. You'll feel like you're in a real-life Disney movie. This site was originally created to house a resort, but those plans were eventually scrapped, and this area converted to a park instead. The grass area is a popular spot for picnics and barbeques, and it's not uncommon to see people fishing off the Waikiki side (although I've yet to talk to anyone that caught anything). Free parking is readily available in the large public lot. read more

Magic Island is a manmade peninsula at the east end of Ala Moana Beach Park. It features large seawalls and a shallow lagoon for children to enjoy swimming in calm waters. All throughout Ala Moana Beach Park has many picnic tables under trees making it an ideal location for family gatherings. This past weekend, my place of employment marched in this month's Annual Honolulu Pride Parade. Because this was the beginning of the festival, there were many cars finding their way from Ala Moana Boulevard. it was pretty packed on Saturday, where lots of people were walking in to the park too. It's really a beautiful and popular neighborhood park where thousands come here for 4th or July Fireworks and Memorial Day weekend. read more

Today was a beautiful day to have Toys 4 Tots event. It was a good turn out that started from Magic Island parking lot and ended at Kapiolani Park in Waikiki. 5000-6000 bikers showed up and Magic Island parking lot accommodated all. It was a nice ride and to see so much awesome motorcycles at one event. What a great experience! read more

Secluded lagoon. Not too many people. Great to just relax and reflect on life as you view the coast of Hawaii. Despite this place being near the mall, it was surprisingly peaceful and quiet. Parking was plentiful and free here which is always a plus. Me and my family came over here to practice walking down the aisle for my wedding and there was so much room for us to work with that we could do it without any interruptions. Lots of large trees for shade for those really sunny days. You also get great views of the water and Diamond Head. Me and my wife also came here to get our post wedding photos done so its another reason this place is special to me. Great for a stroll or just to spend time with loved ones, its worth a visit to Magic Island. read more

The jogging trail in this area is beautiful, especially when the sun sets. If you're there at the right time the sky is lighted in shades of purple, pink and orange. They have benches along the path that you can sit at and enjoy the scenery. If you do one lap around the trail it's 0.7 miles. On Friday nights, Hilton Hawaiian Village will have fireworks at 7:45pm. You can see the fireworks clearly from this area. It'll last about 3-5 minutes, so don't blink or you'll miss it. read more

We didn't know it had a name, but we felt a need to walk over there on our way to the Iolani Palace. I giggled a little at the name because Magic Island sounds like the title of a hirsute Village People hit from the '70's. Actually built in the '60's, the area isn't an island and was built for a fancy hotel that never happened. However, it became a public park when financing fell through. Locals found this a magical turn of events, but a more accurate adjective would be 'pleasant'. Looking more manicured than Waikiki, the area has a paved waterfront promenade, a protected lagoon with a beach, and a large grassy area with shade trees and picnic tables. What's not to like? This is one of my favorites because it's easy to get to and park. We reserved a spot last year for a grad party and it was the best view ever! Bathrooms were close by too. It was an easy process to reserve and pick up our permit during grad season. Easy to stop by to enjoy the sun and jump in for a tan! read more

my favorite part of our last trip to Oahu!!! came here as a recommendation of a local friend, super calm waves/waters for infants, beach proximity to the parking lot made it super easy to load/unload our "borrowed" wagon with our beach gear, bathrooms, showers all within short walking distance. there is also a bike path along the park, we did not walk it but looked nice. in distance you can see planes flying ... the sand was a little rough with some smaller rocks but nothing to worry about.... overall the beach was clean. the kids enjoyed the tiny waves and dipping their feet in the water. also heard that as this is a popular spot, the parking lot can get busy during peak times so come early and grab a spot! read more

11-19-22 A good scenic location for a company party. They even organized a canoe regatta here, bouncy castle for the kiddies and vendors for food, drinks and 2 kinds of desserts. This place holds good memories even from when I was in intermediate school now called middle school. Moonlight picnics, standing on a surfboard for the first time, a friends picnic when I was hapai in my 20s, and more. Clean, gorgeous views of sand, sea and sky. Sometimes you can see photographers taking wedding photos of Japanese couples in their tux and bridal gowns. Even stand up paddling. Good concrete walking paths and even benches to chill and watch the surf if you need a natural pick me up. There's parking but it can fill up fast, if you've never been or haven't been here in a while, come, it's good for your soul. read more

Honestly, I am a little hesitant to write this review, because I don't want to share all the greatness Magic Island has to offer with others! It is a well known and popular park and beach among tourist and locals, but still a hidden gem. My friend recommended Magic Island to us years ago and we have been coming back since. It is less crowded than Waikiki and the waves are a bit calmer, as well. The husband and I visit this beach daily whenever we are in Hawai'i. We like to grab food and chill until the sunset. The beach is nice and clean with beautiful views. A lifeguard is on duty. Parking is free and plentiful with a large parking lot and street parking. I can't wait to return! read more

The name says it all, Magic Island is no Central Park but sure gives it a run for it's size. What hasn't been held here...various 10K+ run/walks, fireworks shows, mini carnivals, Lantern Floating ceremony, photo backdrops, I've even participated in Relay for life cancer walk besides the obvious being a beach to do various outdoorsy things Magic Island has been my go to place for it all. Another thing what makes it absolutely fabulous here are for sunsets. With so many seating and seawall spots to view the calming event I just checkout pop in my earbuds and just chill. I did choose tonight as it was 1/31/22 the Lunar New Year Eve tomorrow will be the Year of the Tiger I just felt in need to calmly usher out the old and welcome the new positivity as I work on focusing on myself more. Though tonight was cloudy and as the sun sets it was hidden behind the clouds it still puts on a stunning show. So much memories were made here, it will always be a special place for me. Magic Island is a great place for kids and adults of all ages! Located at Ala Moana Beach, this enclosed water and each area is perfect for little keiki (children) learning how to swim. Located by Ala Moana Beach. It's a little lagoon area surrounded by rock barriers with a couple of spaces so you'll see waves of water coming over those areas . I remember as a kid coming over to this side cause you didn't have to worry about deep waters. You also get a great view of Diamond Head crater. Magic Island is a beautiful place to watch the great oceans of Waikiki and escaping from the busy city life of Waikiki. Located walking distance from Ala Moana, I was able to check out Magic Island 4-5 times during my stay -- each for different purposes. It's a great park to be jogging whether it's early or late and the park covers some good distance so you might want to check this place out as your early morning jog. You'll get nice views of the city from the peninsula and you'll also get those breezes from the ocean as well which is really nice. There is plenty of seating benches and there's trees that provide wonderful shade so you're bound to have an amazing time. It's a great place to relax, get some fresh air and just walk around. I mean you're surrounded by good weather and good vibes so what would stop you from having a good time here? Must check out when you're in HNL! read more

I love coming here. On Friday night, they always have fireworks around 7:45 pm. We got here a little prior cause we wanted a good view. Plenty of parking around. It got full pretty quickly. It was nice watching the sunset as well. Plenty of random people here but it was relaxing and had a red truck next to us playing old school music in the backdrop lol Lots of cops driving around just to check on random people who make trouble. The fireworks literally lasted maybe less than 10 minutes. It was fast. The sounds seem to echo off the hotel buildings. I would come back here again to watch the fireworks. Magic island makes the perfect place to go to for watching sunsets. Many tourists, and locals alike come to Magic Island. Whether it be a wedding photo shoot or coming together for a family party, people feel drawn to the open area and tall palm trees. Upon entering Magic Island, the main road goes around the lagoon and leads to different paths. Divided as a two way path, pedestrians and bikers share the same path. People can stop by the beach and sunbathe. Some pet owners walk their dogs or pets around Magic Island. But the pets need to be on a leash while walking around. While walking around Magic Island, families and friends come out to take advantage of the free tables and benches used for barbecues or for a special events. Sometimes during the weekend, groups will come out for church services. Parking remains free at this park. Once a month, the Bike Factory holds a Bike Ride Out event on a Saturday evening. This event goes into Magic Island. Bikers of all kinds come out and enjoy the sunset and gather together to enjoy the evening atmosphere. Come and enjoy this hidden gem. I first noticed it about twenty minutes before sunset. Anyone could see it. You could tell the Sun was running out of energy. It had blazed hot and hard all day, non-stop. Now it was on its last legs, moving so slowly it seemed to almost stop. It knew it was going down. It just appeared as if it was looking for a soft place to land. Magic Island throbbed with activity. In every direction parties were in progress. Big parties. Little parties. All really, really fun parties. Big kids feasting, little kids running around with complete abandon. Everyone laughing. As we walked up the pathway that runs from the parking lot along the east side of the island we passed two different weddings in progress. Out past the lagoon, where the pathway curves back to where it starts, there was a lonely bench. The bench invited us over to enjoy the show. My wife and I sat close to each other and watched the line of surfers beyond the break waiting to catch their last rides of the day. By then there were maybe two or three minutes of daylight left. I say maybe because the sun stubbornly refused to give up. For me, those last precious minutes of daylight stretched to infinity. Then, finally, it was over. The Sun went down.
