And as I read the marker, that's the point. Someone was able to preserve this "nothing" for future generations* and that's a good thing. The marker reads, "This meadow, approximately 2100 acres, is the largest section of native grassland existing in Texas. It was originally part of a prairie system that stretched throughout the Midwestern United States and into Canada. Since the earliest settlers arrived in this area in the 1830s, when Texas was part of Mexico, this grassland has remained uncultivated, providing an annual harvest of native grasses. "A lack of fuel and surface water made this area unsuitable for pioneer farmers. Although similar land nearby was tilled and planted, often resulting in erosion or overworked soil, this site was saved by the owner M.L. Smiley (1872-1953). A native of Lamar County, he used the meadow for cattle grazing and for hay production. "Early harvests consisted of cutting and stacking the grasses for drying, or transporting the hay to nearby steam-powered presses. The process was later simplified by the use of gasoline-powered machines that harvested and baled the hay on the site. "After Smiley's death, the meadow was inherited by brothers George S. and Gene M. Woodfin. Today the Smiley-Woodfin Prairie Grassland is the largest supplier of native hay in the state." Oh man what can I say…read more So I was so excited to visit one of the biggest bazaars in the world As soon as I arrived my and I got take advantage by snake charmers who wanted to charge us a lot for a pic and they surrounded us After that we went into a shop and the guy started mocking my voice because I was woah that's pricey for some knockoff sunglasses I wanted to hopefully buy and he was so rude Walking into those right alleyways sharing with bicycles motorcycles small cars and people is a bit claustrophobic and every vendor is wanting your attention You get lost super fast and they can tell and you end up in small square after small square One guy tried to rob us by trying to get us out of the square to "help" us get to the main big square People have told me to never go here without a guide so that's my advice to you all Reason I'm not giving it a 1 is because ultimately the bazaar despite all these things is an experience and it's pretty cool looking down and around and being a part of it all as a tourist learning their culture and trying to be understanding but yeah it was rough and now I laugh about it all

My wife and I recently moved to Texas, needed to change our auto registration and drivers licenses…read more We handled the registration in McKinney because it was closer to home in Collin County. But neighbors recommended going to Sherman for the licenses because we could get appointments much sooner there. That turned out to be correct, one month wait at Sherman vs. 3-4 months in McKinney. We drove up last Thursday morning for our 11:20 appointments. Everything went extremely smoothly. The lady at the front desk was friendly and helpful, patiently helping us through all the required paperwork. We had done our homework beforehand and had everything we needed. We then had a short wait until Robert called us to his desk. He was delightful, leading us through the process quickly and efficiently while keeping a friendly conversation going. In addition to giving us useful information about driving and navigating the roads of Texas, he also gave us great tips to help us adjust to life in Texas. Even provided his impressions of different restaurants and markets in the area. We appreciated his willingness to share his knowledge with us. The hour we spent in the office flew by and was probably the best government office visit either of us had ever experienced. We highly recommend that when you need to visit a DPS office, take your business up to Sherman office.
