I have a unit at the Montague, NJ location which I started in March 2019 - I have to say Caitlin is great at customer care - any questions I have she is quick to respond and always finds the perfect solution. I have never used a storage unit before and she was very helpful showing me the unit and explaining what can easily be stored and they have a 20% discount which is very helpful right now. I give Fort Knox a 1/2 star rating. First, the bad: -1 star: Water - Gutters leak and splash into the storage unit doors. Any boxes, papers, fabric, etc. near the front will be ruined by repeatedly being wet. -1 star: Dust - I don't know where the dust came from, but it was so thick that anything not sealed in a box will be covered in it. Its not just regular dust either, its more like fine gravel that blows in from the parking lot. I can't figure out how it gets all the way to the back of the unit, but it did. -1 star: Mice - I had no food in my unit whatsoever, but the mice made homes in most of my cardboard boxes, making a nice nest and defecating all over my stuff. Luckily they kept away from the boxes that were wet all the time. When I moved out I filled a shoe box with mice nests and droppings, and cleaned the unit up real nice for Fort Knox. -1 star: Cost increase - they increase your rates after you've already signed the agreement and move in. They do have the courtesy of sending a letter informing you of this, at least. - 1 star: After 115 days, I have not been refunded my deposit. I've gone to their office 2 times, and called and left messages 5 times. No one in the office knows about deposits, and no one ever calls me back when I leave messages. Finally today I got a letter that they are keeping my $130 deposit because I didn't give them 10 days notice of cancellation. I guess I could have paid $152 for the next month to get my $130 deposit back... oh wait, that would be stupid. You win. The good: It was a room, that I could put stuff in and some of it wasn't ruined. +1/2 star! read more

The staff has been awesome to us during our move. This is my 2nd time storing here. I called them over 10x and they helped out with every question I had. My unit was in the basement, which I was nerves about, but everything was perfectly fine and the conveyor belt wasn't that hard to use at all. Gave my 10 day and moved out of unit in February and received my deposit back a month later. Which helped during quarantine. Highly recommend this company, Hence why I went back! read more

I rented a unit in Montague nj for about six months..I was set up on auto pay.. I was moving my stuff into my new home on December 3. Unfortunately I could not get my stuff out by the 1st of the month so I was charged a full month for December.. my wife was in the office at the end of November to give them notice the the unit will be empty dec 2nd and we also reserved a u haul truck. We moved out December 2nd I went back to the office Monday December 4th to let them know the unit was empty and I wished to get my cash deposited of 100$ back.. I was informed by the blonde girl there that my deposit would be sent to me Jan 1st in the form of a check.. I said no problem and gave her my new updated address to send the check.. Now it the middle of Jan and I have not received my check yet. I called today and was told I'm not receiving my deposit due to not giving 10 day notice that I was moving my stuff out.. But in actuality 2 notice were giving.. Once when we rented the uhall from them and then again dec 4th when I went in to get my deposite.. I was charged a full 125$ for the month if December even though my stuff was there only 2 days in December and the refuse to refund my deposite.. I will me taking leagal actions against fort Knox storage for deposited and my very valuable time. read more

I had answered an ad to work here for certain hours during the week - Monday - Tuesday 9-6 at their NJ location, Wednesday - Friday 3-7 and Saturday 9-2 at their Port Jervis location. I was hired and went through 2 weeks of training at all four of the facilities. I had gotten to meet almost everyone and had learned that a family works for the owner and runs the facilities among a few other co workers who are not family. After my training was complete, I had finished a third week with them. And at the start of the fourth week, today, I went to work in their NJ location. After I was there for almost an hour, the Operations Manager's daughter had walked in and had informed me that she was to be there on Monday and Tuesday and that she would have her Mom call to talk to me about my hours going forward. She then decided to go home and let me stay to have the hours. I was then contacted by the Operations Manager by text not even 10 minutes later, that senior workers had requested their hours to be changed while I was training, and that new hire hours are 'floating' hours until we excel in a certain place. And that from today moving forward, I had to check in with her to find out my hours for the coming week. She then told me that my hours were never promised.. I can not live on 'floating hours', so I quit. She then accused me of how unprofessional I was by walking out on them today. I told her that it was unprofessional of not informing me of my hours changing until today.. The ad on Indeed and the person who interviewed me committed false advertising by luring me and others in with the promise of certain hours. If I had known the information that I had found out today from the ad on Indeed or the person who had interviewed me, I would have never sent in my resume. read more

Do not rent a UHaul truck here. They don't have what they advertise online. So when n you get there, they upsell you. Then, they don't have the dollies, or blankets, which they charged you for. You have to notice this issue.... if you didn't notice, when you turn in truck, you will be charged to purchase them as if you stole them. They are unable to credit you back for them. After an hour of phone calls, computer not working etc., she called someone else who finally fixed it over the phone. There is something strange going on here, do yourself a favor. Save yourself the time, aggravation, hassle, and cost! Go elsewhere. read more

I know that Fort Knox will probably try to discredit me by commenting on this review and explaining how much they "give back to the community" but the fact remains. They would not honor my gift certificates. They were not expired and they did not have any fine print. The people i talked to at Fort Knox made up a million different reasons why they couldn't honor them. At one point they implied that i may have counterfeited them. I was also told that, if they gave me what the certificate said, I would be taking money from the employees. I had to settle for 1/6th of the value of the certificates after driving 15 miles and arguing with them for an hour. read more

Horrible place.My 85 year old mother rented two units on September 7. Was planning on moving out 1st of October.Something came up and she asked if she could move out on the 5th of October without being charged another months rent,since she had moved in on the 7th of September.Manager said "Oh sure,no problem".We went there on the 5th of October,our code to get in was denied.We were told we couldn't have access without paying 150.00 in rent along with 40.00 in late charges.Then when we complained,we were told "Sorry nothing we can do about" Rotten people! read more

I needed a very large unit to store a 3 bedroom summer ome we were completly renovating. Colleen helped me secure a 10x20 unit & a rental truck. They had boxes & locks. It was one stop storage shopping. Everything is on camera & security is very tight. Christina office manager shared some local tibidts on places to stay & eat while our house was being completed. Would return again as they were extremly helpful. Oh & I saw the above review: they are very clear, you can not dump stuff there & you give notice prior to moving out & you get your security deposit back easily & quickly. We even recieved a discount coupon if we wanted to return again or recommend a friend. read more
