At best, she'd sit behind her cluttered counter and not say a single word in response to greetings, requests, etc. - but at least you'd get what you needed. At worst, she'd scream at you. So I was so happy when I had to stop in this week to find her gone (hopefully fired, or at least moved into a non-customer facing role), and replaced with Cece, who was friendly and helpful. I'm somewhat shocked that USPS apparently finally responded to the complaints people have been making about this location for years, but am very happy to be able to use my neighborhood post office again.

The line moved as fast as reasonably possible & both USPS staff & customers were cordial. I shipped a small package & asked Cece if I could have a little tape for the ends of the padded envelope; she was already two steps ahead of me & secured my envelope with care. What's more, every single person who interacted with each other wished each other a happy holiday season & joyous new year...if only more people could be this way 24/7, 365.

This location is in Del Ray right behind the Mount Vernon school. There are a few spots for parking…read morebut chances are you may need to find it on the street. They have baby time on Mondays which was the purpose of the visit. It took place in a large space and was very interactive with bouncing, lifting, and puppets. There is a large kid section with lots of board books here. They also have a large rug area with puzzles and toys which we really enjoyed after the baby time. I really enjoyed my interactions here and plan to return again soon for both baby time and book check out.

They do a lot of children's activities so if you're looking for a super quiet library this is not the place for you. Depending on the time of day parking can be a challenge. They have a small lot but it fills up quickly. There's also a ton of street parking but you may have to walk a block or two.

Recently reopened after a three-year closure for renovations (and the pandemic), the Alexandria…read moreBlack History Museum is a small, yet powerful museum that's open Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. After visiting on a Friday afternoon, here's my experience. 1) Admission: It's free for Alexandria residents, Blue Star families and Key to the City holders and $3 for everyone else. No need to reserve tickets ahead of time. Just walk in. I had the museum to myself. 2) Exhibits: The museum has two small rooms with exhibits. The first one is mainly reading with some artifacts about the history of Black Alexandria. There's a small area for kids with a scavenger hunt and a craft. The second room talks about Alexandria's response to the murder of George Floyd. The museum has a small bookstore worth exploring, especially if you like reading books. 3) Space: It's housed in a library for Black residents during segregation that was built after a sit-in at another library. 4) Neighborhood: There are many other historical sites nearby as well as cafes and restaurants. 5) Parking: There's no parking lot, but free street parking is usually easy to find nearby.
