The conference itself was wonderful, but I was not a big fan of National Harbor. I didn't have a car, so I took the metro and bus to get to National Harbor. I walked around the area that afternoon, and it took less than two hours for me to see everything. This area is very commercial and planned, with little local flair or character. I see this mentioned in reviews from 2010-2011; well, it is still the case in 2026. The monument to our armed services was inspirational, and I found a wonderful Black-owned bookstore called Mahogany Books. But, most businesses were high-end chains. There's a pharmacy for basic needs, but most restaurants are expensive and no grocery stores are within walking distance. Thankfully, Potbelly is there for us plebes to grab a sandwich, and Mahogany Books serves delicious coffee drinks. I had plenty to do with the conference over the next three days, so it wasn't a boring trip. The bus service comes every 30 minutes or you can Uber/Lyft to a metro station like Alexandria and go into the city. On the second night of our conference, I ended up going into Alexandria with some friends, and we went to a local pizza restaurant. The next night, I visited a local Greek restaurant in Alexandria with other friends. If you're attending a conference here, do stay at a nearby hotel for convenience and also visit Mahogany Books. Otherwise, I would not spend much time at National Harbor.

The restaurants, the waterfront views, its really postcard worthy. Simply amazing destination. I can only imagine how busy this area gets in the summer.

I've always loved Old Town, and I love the Harbor too but I didn't realize how many beautiful trails are tucked right here in Old Town. They're peaceful, scenic, and genuinely good for the soul. Last Monday's weather was perfect, and walking this trail at night made me appreciate the views even more. It's a safe, calming route that lets you slow down and take in life, health, opportunity, and family. Sometimes the simple things are the ones that reset you. Peace really is priceless. If you're from the DMV, I highly recommend coming out to experience this walk. It's quiet, grounding, and worth every step. After my long walk I had a clear mind....clarity. Tidbit: God always speaks to us. He definitely speaks to me. God reveals it to you again and again, long before you ever go searching. God literally shows you truth. Don't lean onto your own understanding. Let God lead, so something better more aligned has room to come in. God saw it too, leave it in his hands. #grateful Do this walk! It's amazing!

I can't speak for the whole park as I have only really seen one area of the park on each visit. Picnic area B and I are very familiar, and I have come to like this part of the park. Maybe one day I will make it back out here and explore more, but this review at this time is for what I have experienced thus far. Picnic area B is a set of areas sandwiched between Battery Meigs and Battery Humphreys. A great area to have a big gathering as both ends have bathroom facilities for use and those can be very useful. The one thing that you do not realize is how close you are to the water. No matter where you are in this park you are a very short walk to the water. Picnic area B is fairly close to both the Potomac River and Piscataway Creek. There are also trails that will connect areas and take you along the waterways. Specifically for Area B, there is ample parking for any amount of people you may invite to an event. It is shaded, but not as shaded as you would think. Throughout the day, if you want to be in the shade you will either have to move or bring a way to keep the sun away. If you do plan an event here, be sure to clean up after yourself. Do not leave anything behind as this is a park that is patrolled and it is your duty to pick up after yourself.

We came upon the Contrabands and Freedmen Memorial Cemetery on a walk from Jones Point Park. The haunting sculpture on the grounds drew us in to examine the inscriptions and gravestones. Among those who are buried here are individuals who tried to run from the horrors of enslavement or who died shortly after the Civil War. The bronze plaque reads that many died of disease and starvation. Half of those buried in this cemetery were children. Because African American individuals were not allowed to be buried in the main cemeteries, the names of those who perished were not recorded on the stones. Many of the markers that were later added simply read "child." We cannot erase the mistakes of how we have treated our fellow human beings. It is important not to forget the evils of slavery and the impact it has had on millions around the world. This final resting place is a powerful reminder that we must always work toward a better world for all people.

Contrabands and Freedmen Memorial Cemetery is a 2014 memorial on the original cemetery founded in 1864 as the burial grounds of people who escaped slavery and found refuge in Union-controlled Alexandria. For five years, people (more than half children) were buried in the cemetery. In fact, members of the U.S. Colored Troops were first buried here until it was demanded they be buried in the Soldiers' Cemetery with all other Civil War soldiers. It became the first civil rights protest in the city and they won! Fast forward less than one hundred years and the cemetery disappeared from city maps. A gas station and later an office building were built on top of the cemetery. Then a group of activists convinced the city to buy the land and build a memorial on top protecting the site. It opened in 2014. The memorial itself includes a statue and an area that tells the stories and honors those buried here and the plight of Black Alexandrians. It's a must-visit site that many unfortunately miss.

The parking is very easy and accessible to the casino. The stores are fun and the restaurants look great. The atrium is beautiful and I was lucky enough that it was Lunar New Year themed when I visited. The rooms are quite nice and very clean, plus they are spacious. Bed is comfortable and the shower is great. Climate control worked well. It was an enjoyable stay and I would stay here again. The spa was fine, but more on that under separate cover. For food, I ate at the National Market (food court), from both Zizi's Pizza and Noodle Bar, both of which were fine, and I'd eat at again. I also ate at the Bellagio Patisserie, which was good--I liked my flatbread and latte for breakfast, along with my dessert. Room service was enjoyable, as I ordered a very delicious chicken tender and tots meal. I'm not a casino person but I do enjoy walking through one and MGM has a fun vibe. I was hoping to try Blossom during one visit, but it did not open in time. We had drinks in the lobby bar, which is well-appointed and lively with delicious cocktails and great service. We also had drinks at Osteria Costa, but service was not great. The website/app leaves much to be desired. I could not find all needed information and opening times for restaurants and stores were incorrect, which is bewildering and causes one to wonder what else management is overlooking. Staff is super friendly and helpful though, and I am looking forward to returning.

Sleek without feeling cold. It gives the whole place a real destination feel instead of just a room full of machines. The baccarat setup stood out. Lots of tables. Good weekend energy. Very "one more hand" behavior. The slot machines were strong. Plenty of options. Bright screens. Good variety. Easy to get pulled into a section and lose track of time. They had that modern casino pull where the machines feel like little video games with rent due. Fun. Loud. Addictive in the expected way. The food area was decent. Convenient more than special. It handled the need. Grab something. Reset. Get back to the floor. Nothing that stole the show but enough to keep the night moving. Parking is huge. First-time confusing though. The size is helpful once you understand it. But pulling in for the first time had that "where exactly am I supposed to go" moment. A few more mental breadcrumbs would help.
