Terry, don't lecture your clients like they're stupid. If you would speak up and audibly articulate your questions, you wouldn't be asked to repeat the questions so many times. Also we felt rushed at the actual funeral service. Don't operate your funeral services like you're trying to turn over tables and booths in a busy restaurant. Being asked to physically leave the funeral site 16 minutes after the conclusion of the service was rude and unacceptable. If you're that tightly packed with your alleged schedule, then perhaps you need to revisit your scheduling policies. All in all, the whole thing was a nasty experience, From our first meeting to discuss arrangements, all the way through the service. I cannot recommend this business at all. They used to have a sterling reputation in Columbus. Since selling out to a huge corporation (Dignity) I am learning of frequent dissatisfaction with Striffler Hamby. I have been visiting Evergreen Memorial for 15 years, 18 October 2011. In the beginning the grounds…read morewere kept up, grass cut, plots taken care of and the original owner was very nice. He brought me a chair because I would stand out there visiting My Momma gravesite for hours....everyday. There was about 5 gravesites near My Momma's that had sunk in from the rain. They finally fixed those gravesites after I had to bring it to their attention. I have been calling the office staff and talking to one of the groundsmen about the cemetery not being taken care of. I met a man who was visiting his son's gravesite and we talked. He told me that the Mr. Remrick had passed and he was allowing the groundsmen to use his lawn mowers and sometimes he would cut the grass because Evergreens' lawn mowers were not working. He told me to call and report it and I called 411 and was given a lady's name and phone number at the government center, and until this day that person has NEVER returned my calls from the messages I left. I don't know when he passed, but after his passing the grounds have NOT been taken care of at all. I saw pictures online and read the story and I wrote a comment to him and told him his pictures or a lie. i told him I go out to Evergreen everyday and that he should not promote lies and when people get there it is a total different look. He apologized and said he would take them down. I don't know if he did or not, but I did let him know those pictures were lies. The groundsmen are only seen when they are digging for a burial. I stopped and asked one of them on 8 September 2026 about him not taking care of My Momma's gravesite as he said he would do. He said it was being taken care of. I said yes, that is because I have been cutting and trimming around My Momma's gravesite. He told me that they have cut their hours, his landlord is on him because he has not paid his rent. He hasn't paid his rent because he has not been paid by Evergreen in a month. On 13 September 2026, I met Sandra and we were talking about how the grounds were not taken care of and how bad it is looking. I don't know exactly what it is called but she showed me a picture of something being broken. I shared my stories as did she too about how long the grounds have not been taken care of. The folks in the office don't care and of course if the groundsmen are not getting paid, they don't either. I told her I called them a couple of months ago and asked why the grass had not been cut. She told me the grass was cut today. I said that is a lie, because I am standing out here now and it has not been touched. She said there would be a work order put in for them to cut the grass. I came the next day and the grass was not cut. It took about 4-5 days before the grounds were cut. They have lied that it has been raining the reason the grass has not been cut. Sandra and I will bring some attention to this matter that has been going on for way too long and hopefully some action will be taken and kept up.

They simply put rip rap rock where the creek eroded the wall and did not actually fixed the problem, in fact its starting to fall over again. Spoke with them again today and still have the same "Ill have it fixed and taken care of tomorrow, told him, the "General Manager" cant do tomorrow were burying my Brother? They did offer to move the family plot but to locations that did not fit the needs that my Parents selected. Just in case some one may wonder its an "act of God" doesn't apply folks, they knew the creek was there, they knew about erosion, they knew that selling a plot at a curve at a creek is a focal point of erosion, especially in severe weather. They want to move the monument forward a few feet which will place the monument over the heads of my family and is not what was agreed upon! A total lack of respect of the deceased and their family! I'm a recent college grad with no credit. I offered to show proof and references of rent, utilities, etc. that were always paid on time but they still said no. Maybe they've been stuck with non-payers before. Or maybe they just didn't need my business that bad. Oh well, let's just say I was not impressed with their "dedication to do all we can for the bereaved and help them cope with the loss of a loved one by providing a professional, caring, understanding and compassionate response to their needs. " If you pre-arrange a funeral (can't do that with a young person's unexpected death) or if you can pay cash, maybe they do a fine job.

Apparently, GA law trumps the contract McMullen sells and they don't bother to tell you this when you are paying in FULL for YOUR OWN FUNERAL. So their contract is misleading and meaningless, and they will not honor it. They also provide nonchalant and callous explanations to grieving loved ones who are naturally upset that the preplanned and paid in full funeral that they witnessed the deceased arrange is changed AFTER a meeting where all agreed, and no notice was sent about the change. They even go to the extent of saying, oh you'd be surprised how many people we make mad...like it's some badge of honor or humble brag.

When selecting a funeral home I selected this one mainly because my hubby wished to be cremated and the crematory was on site. In our meeting, I was highly disappointed in the behavior of the director for several reasons. First, when I mentioned I had read all about cremations on google, his comment was that's where I made a mistake. Not only was that not called for but so very untrue. I learned so many things I did not know. I was as able to ask to see my husband which I did. He seemed surprised but let me. Then his cell phone rang and he proceeded to carry on a conversation with his wife when he should have said I'll have to call you back. Instead they talked about lunch. I ask if he needed to excuse himself. I ask to see the crematory for the purpose of cleanliness. He did take me down to it but also proceeded to take the clipboard off the wall to show me how they log who's in there and I knew this from google. You could see the clipboard so no need to remove it to the point I could read the persons name. He proceeded to open the crematory itself after I ask him please not to knowing someone's remains were in there. At that point I was absolutely devastated thinking to myself what would their family think along with the invasion of privacy. I went home thinking very hard if I wanted to have my husband picked up and taken somewhere else. I chose to stay there and discuss my concerns afterward and we did. You also have the right to view the cremation process and take part in process. I elected to see my hubby's care until the end and my son and the crematorium placed him up on the roller and I pushed the crematory button to start the process. Something I still do not regret. The crematorium assured me it would not be opened until his remains were removed. When I picked up his remains they were in a black box where the lid did not even fit securely. It kept coming off. It had to be taped shut. I special ordered his urn so I elected to move him over myself at home once it came in. I will say the response time to the Bethany House was incredible. And he was able to get the casket I picked out from Montgomery before the next morning and my husband looked at peace in it. I was very satisfied with the great job they did preparing him. And the director did apologize although he also made excuses along the way. So off to a rocky start but all worked out in the end. A year ago I would have rated them a 1. I do think this is probably an amazing place. Everyone else couldn't have been more respectful. Hopefully the director and his wife learned a few things during my journey.

He looked like himself, but when we went back to check his body before anybody else could see him they had clean, shave him, which we asked not to do, but they did. He didn't even look like yourself. People kept saying who is that now we go to pick up his body because he was being cremated today and we get there and they say his body is not ready yet so they let you keep going through the trauma and you're trying to do what you need to do for your family member.
