This was such a fun experience ! Totally stumbled upon it on the way back from the fort! Staff was super nice and the experience was unique!
Super cool experience! Google Maps took us right to the location. We took the historic ferry from NY to VT. It was $20 for our car and three adults. We had two other cars on it with us. There is a little wait if the ferry is on the other side of the lake but it's worth it! Be sure to pull the chain down and hook it so the captains know that you're waiting on the other side for a ride. Your vehicle gets loaded and you are told where to park. They come to collect your cash. After the ferry is moving, you can get out and walk around. It doesn't take long to cross the lake. It's definitely a must do! read more

The ferry website now says it has not opened for the season and they have not announced an opening date. Don't take this route unless you can confirm the ferry is operating. read more

Established in 1759, the Fort Ticonderoga Ferry is an easy, cheap, unique and time saving way to get from NY to Vermont. We used the ferry to get to from Bolton Landing over to Mount Independence. From the NY side, just follow state route 74 through the town of Ticonderoga, past the fort and the rail station until you reach the shore of Lake Champlain. When we arrived, the ferry was on the VT side and we were 4th in line. With in 15 minutes, the ferry had off loaded its NY bound cargo, and we were rolling on. A few more cars lined up behind us while we were waiting, including a large pick up truck pulling a full size camper. The crewmen did an excellent job directing the cars to their desired spots in the ferry's three lanes, and within a few short minutes, the cable system was puling us across the lake. In under 10 minutes, we were disembarking in Vermont. The ride costs $10 one way, or $16 round trip. The ferry is operational from early May to late October, so if you're pushing the edge of the season, call ahead first. Hours of operation are 7:00 am to 7:00 pm during peak season, but they close an hour earlier outside of the summer months. Be sure to arrive at least 15 minutes before closing to make sure you catch the last ferry of the day! read more

The captain is a jerk. There was three cars only and we were parked so we couldn't get out of our car. So the attendant told us we could move forward a bit while we were moving. Then Captain ass###e went ballistic screaming at his attendant, so professional. The attendant apologized after. Needless to say we will never use the ferry again while this idiot is in command. read more
