I have been to alot of rest stop through my travels across the US. This is one of the cleanest rest stop ever! If you are in the area and need to stop, this is the place. There are also picnic tables outside if it is warm and you want to have a snack with the family.

Great place to make a quick stop, use the bathroom and take in the nice views. The location was clean and offered vending machines with drinks and snacks. The outdoor area had spots to eat at the picnic areas and a relief area for pets. There was a room with brochures for local attractions.

Yes, I am giving 5 stars to a rest area. High Peaks is like none other and really puts to shame any rest stop I have been to - especially those in NJ! It's actually gorgeous. It has a cozy lodge feel, like a wood hunting cabin. As we walked up to it you can smell the wood with the clean fresh air. Ample parking. Wonderful scenic views. Picnic tables on the well kept grounds. Sparkling clean. Not even a gum wrapper on the ground. Even my phone had solid reception here. The inside is just perfect. Clean spacious bathrooms. Vending machines for drinks and snacks. Well stocked visitors information area with plenty of pamphlets of things to explore. There are also some wall displays here to loom at. The interior with it's high beam wood ceiling and matching lighting is so tranquil and beautiful in a simple way. If you have to take a pee break while driving up or down I-87 be sure to plan it for this rest stop!

High Peaks rest station and text zone, you are like no other. You alone have raised the bar for every other rest station to emulate. Your wooden cabin-like exterior and name, spelled out in saplings...you are what every tree dreams of becoming. Your parking, so perfectly adequate, and your spacing from the previous stops...so much appreciated by my aging bladder. Yet, for all your outside charm, you fool me not with your dizzying array of intelligence, spelled out pamphlet by pamphlet to educate the weary traveller of the opportunities that await to separate a man from his currencies while ooohing and aahhing at the mountainous splendor. You sneaky double headed scoundrel! Redeem yourself with clean bathrooms with automated sinks, lest my heart be sullied. For this pilgrim with glutius maximus aches from miles of ribboning highway, a long long way from the place I call home, I will forever mourn that our time was too short, and that, like ships passing in the night, our encounter was far to brief, but at least it did require washing hands afterwards. I will sleep better, no matter the distance that separates, knowing that you will steadfastly press on, perched upon yon mountain high, serving mankind in the noblest of ways.

The moment was perfect. The early afternoon heat was stirring up thunder storms as the Mariah wind wove through the mountains. The sky was still bright with blue and white, but to the north darkness was growing; reflecting the light dramatically. The rest stop was little more than bathrooms and vending machines, with only a few travelers and road warriors. Slow down. Take a look around. The Adirondacks spread out in all directions...The sky broke open in a full tilt sun shining rain shower with the drum of thunder in the distance... Cleansing rain to sooth the weary soul.

    The ritz of rest stops.

The road in is newly paved and takes you around the back of the building. Big rig parking is by the highway with a pedestrian walkway up to the building. The parking lot is a fair size with no EV charging station (yet) and two handicap spaces. A small pavillion directly across from parking covers three picnic tables. Another 3 are nestled under the trees to the left. Several Adirondack style seats across the lawn overlook the road and view beyond. The grounds are beautifully landscaped. The building is small but contains a lot of tourist information on the walls, brochures to take and a volunteer to help. Hot coffee is available, two drink vending machines and one snack vending machine as well as water fountains. Clean mens/ladies rooms and two family bathrooms are located behind a display wall to the left as you enter the building. An information desk is straight ahead. This facility reclaims it's waste water and the process is open to the public in their Living Machine greenhouse area. It's very tropical with a bounty of lush, warm weather plants. Thankfully, it didn't smell like waste water in there. :) Also on site is a large Veterans Memorial, originally opened in 1982. There are several informational displays around the property regarding VT's military history. The memorial is a lovely, quiet space for reflection. A dog walking area is located on the opposite side of the parking lot with waste bags available for your convenience. Furry family members are not allowed inside the building. A volunteer was monitoring the parking area, keeping it tidy. This is a beautiful rest stop with space for kids to run, picnic areas, seats with a view, a memorial and some waste water science. If all you need is a quick pit stop they got you covered. If you have time to roam, they've got you covered there too.
