I'm honestly surprised by the bad reviews. I had a follow-up today with Judith Yu. I was literally…read morethe only one in the lobby so my appointment started right on time. Judith is incredible and truly listens. She switched me to Qulipta last year and I haven't had a full-on migraine since then. The few headaches I've experienced have been mild or moderate. Best of all, I haven't had any side effects. I had a check-in today just to renew my prescriptions and to make sure everything was still going well. Judith did a great job anticipating issues. She remembered that my insurance required a prior authorization for Qulipta last time (and for me to fail multiple other drugs) so she took a moment to document everything we tried that didn't work, just in case. Thankfully, my insurance approved the drug, but I really appreciated her taking the extra time. By the time I scheduled my follow-up appointment and got out to my car, the pharmacy was already working on my meds. In the year I've spent under Judith's care, I've never had an issue getting in touch of her. Her MA does a great job returning calls and setting expectations if Judith is with another patient. She even caught that I'd forgotten to do my labs before my last appointment and called me the day before to reschedule so I wouldn't waste a trip. My medications have been sent to the correct pharmacy while I'm still in the exam room so I've never been stranded without my medications. I previously saw another neurologist who, despite hearing how severe my symptoms had become, focused on ordering a number of in-house tests rather than addressing whether my medication was still working. Judith listened, changed my medication at my first visit, and a year later it's still working incredibly well. I will also say that I just accompanied my grandmother to an appointment with Santos Yu for steroid injections in her neck last month. While we had a negative experience with him a few years ago, he was excellent. He was so gentle and reassuring, talking my grandmother through the injections when she was uncomfortable. She felt improvement within an hour and is feeling great. I really love the care we're receiving at NCN!

If you value your health, think twice before choosing this neurologist…read more After more than a year under his care, I suffered six seizures, including one where I stopped breathing. Despite my condition continuing to worsen, I repeatedly asked for additional testing, including blood work and further evaluation, but was told blood work is "not typically done in neurology." No extensive testing was ever performed, and I felt my concerns were consistently dismissed. I also felt that appointments focused more on teaching medical students than on providing me with the care and attention I desperately needed. Seeing pharmaceutical representatives frequently coming into the office also left me questioning where the priorities were. I walked away feeling ignored, unheard, and frightened that my worsening condition was not being taken seriously. My experience left me with little confidence in the level of care I received, and I would not trust this physician with my neurological care. Patients deserve to be listened to, thoroughly evaluated, and treated with urgency when experiencing repeated seizures. Unfortunately, that was not my experience.

At this point, I cannot comment on the doctor's treatment itself because no diagnosis has been made yet and treatment has not started. At my initial appointment, I only saw the doctor for about 2-3 minutes. I explained my symptoms, and he said he could not prescribe anything, including medication for anxiety, until the cause was determined. He ordered an MRI, blood work, and EMG testing, which I appreciate. However, a few days after the visit, my symptoms worsened. I decided I did not want to wait for insurance authorization and was willing to pay out of pocket for the MRI. I called the office multiple times and could not get through, so I eventually had to drive there in person. I requested that they send the referral to the imaging center, but I was told that a message would be sent to the doctor and that, because they have many patients, it would be handled whenever the doctor deemed appropriate. As a patient whose symptoms were getting worse, I felt there was very little urgency or concern. The lack of communication and the difficulty reaching the office have been the most disappointing part of my experience so far. I hope to provide an update later, once I have my results and see how the doctor manages my care moving forward.

Parking in the facility can be challenging but there's a lot of parking. You just need to walk a little farther. They are located on the 3rd floor so make sure you remember which unit you need to go to. My interaction with the staff has been good. Not the best but good. There was a little hiccup on my last visit. I checked in with the front desk staff then sat down and waited. My appointment time came and went then I get a call at 8:48 am and a young man from the office was asking if I was going to make it to my appointment at 8:45 am. I giggled and said what do you mean, I'm in the waiting room waiting, are you coming to get me? He said yes so I continued to wait. Apparently, something was not checked on my check in process that alerted the workers that I was waiting. Something like that but he said they got it all worked out. YAY! Chantel APRN came into my room and started to go over my report. She was so kind and her bedside manner was awesome. She went over everything I needed and explained it to me thorougly in layman's term. I was very happy and pleased with my interaction with her. She is definitely an asset and gets 5 STARS from me. Overall, great experience with Chantel but they do need to work on answering the phones with incoming calls or have dedicated people to do this task. I will not take away anything from them working hard as that is what I saw. When I was checking out I kinda whispered and it was funny that all the girls turned to look at me. LOL, I said oh, you guys got good ears and using office soft voices.

Before him, I had been…read moretreated by two other Drs for my lower back and neck injury and both were set on performing lower back surgery. At 40 years of age, I felt and received feedback from friends that one surgery could lead to another and another, etc. Dr. Gross helped me get off of the stronger pain medication and prescribed nerve ablations and physical therapy. He helped me cope with my injury instead of guiding me to a lower back surgery that would put more money in his own pocket. I feel amazingly blessed that I was able to find him and that he was able to treat me. Due to his detailed and thorough nature, he was able to find things in the scans that the technicians and other doctors didn't see, which came in pretty handy when it came to treating me and properly evaluating my ongoing litigations at the time. Now fast forward three years since last I have seen him and I work out six days a week at RAW fitness and I am performing as I had never thought possible after my injury. My injury is still very real and maybe strengthening past torn and bulging disks is not for everyone, but it was right for me and Dr. Gross was the right doctor for me. He did not quit treating me because of my litigations, he quit treating me because I quit needing him. He is very thorough and I would feel very comfortable if he did have to perform a lower back or neck fusion on me in the future. Thank you, thank you, and thank YOU!

He was thorough, compassionate, and genuinely focused on getting to the root of what was going on. I never felt rushed or dismissed. He took the time to explain everything and made sure all necessary tests were done. Two weeks prior, I had gone to St. Rose Hospital for the exact same pain and was told it was esophageal spasms without much testing. The pain went away the next day, but when it came back two weeks later, it was a full 10/10. When I explained this to Dr. Leavit, he told me that esophageal spasms are very difficult to definitively diagnose and that he wanted to run a full workup to be sure we weren't missing anything. I am so grateful he did. It turned out to be my gallbladder, and it needed to be removed. I was told it was close to rupturing, and catching it when they did likely prevented a much more serious situation. I was there for several hours before being admitted to Henderson Hospital, and although there was an emergency situation that caused some delays, the team kept me informed every step of the way. An administrative staff member checked on me multiple times to make sure I was okay and kept me updated, which I really appreciated. I don't remember my nurse's name, but he was equally amazing--kind, attentive, and compassionate. He made sure I had everything I needed during a long stay from about 8 PM to 3 AM. The entire time, I felt cared for, seen, and supported. It was clear that the team genuinely wanted to find answers, not just treat symptoms. I sought an appointment with Dr. Duke not because I expected surgery, but because I wanted an…read moreexpert review of my MRI findings and an opinion on potential causes of my ongoing symptoms. I was already aware that my imaging showed little of significance and that surgery was unlikely. The purpose of the consultation was to obtain diagnostic insight and discuss possible next steps. *Instead*, the entire discussion seemed to revolve around the fact that there was no surgically correctable structural abnormality. Multiple times I was told there was "nothing to do medically." and "you're at the end of the line". I found this statement both inaccurate and dismissive. Medicine is not limited to surgery, and the absence of a structural finding on MRI does not mean there are no medical explanations for pain or no treatments worth considering. Nerve irritation, chronic pain conditions, headache disorders, autonomic dysfunction, inflammatory conditions, and many other causes of pain can exist without obvious MRI findings. When I discussed my SCM pain, the conversation quickly drifted toward psychosomatic explanations, and I was left with the impression that seeking pain relief was itself unproductive and even that this might be "in my head" (psychological in nature). This was particularly frustrating given that I use pain medication extremely conservatively, typically only a few times per month and often at reduced doses.. my pain is abnormal, but what I didn't need was this air of dismissive disinterest. I'm well aware of the potential risks of pain medication, and while I don't think he assumed I was drug-seeking his quick "oh I wouldn't do that" to pain meds *and* trigger point treatments felt like someone who might suggest using them as a failure of one's constitution or even possibly worthy of rebuke because the imaging is patent. My impression was that Dr. Duke viewed the absence of a surgical target as the end of the discussion. He may be a capable spine surgeon, but this consultation demonstrated a narrow and reductionist view of medicine in which conditions that fall outside his specialty were largely dismissed rather than meaningfully addressed. A quick administrative complaint as well: I received instructions to pick up CD media for my appointment. So I grabbed two discs and brought them with and I was told "these aren't needed we have them".. so I felt I wasted my time grabbing those. Maybe as a "just in case", but I spent two hours procuring these which ended up being pointless additional effort. Maybe they should attempt to grab all imaging and confirming with you if they have a copy before you make this effort. Overall this felt like a waste of my time, I felt belittled and frustrated, and the commentary suggested this wasn't a "medical problem", despite other specialists with contrary opinions and the sheer fact "medicine" isn't purely a system of resolving 'only' structural issues. If I had seen this doctor earlier on with the issues I had and his desire to not treat with medication I have no doubt that I would not be around to have had this discussion. This is a review of his frame of mind, and lack of ability to navigate issues outside his area of expertise. I'm glad I got help from OTHER specialists and even when those doctors didn't have things diagnostically useful they still pushed for me to advocate for myself and if possible seeking treatment options and finding solutions that were still relatively conservative (including physical therapy). Experiences like this is what ruins people's confidence in doctors and healthcare specialists, he had plenty of opportunities to reassure me or express that maybe someone else would be better-suited, instead he framed it as a purely psychological issue (which he has no expertise in and is extremely presumptuous, he didn't offer a single alternative idea or thought beyond 'psychosomatic - which is a useful panacea when a doctor has no other ideas). - Further, he cannot reasonably rule out physical issues that have not been identified purely because one MRI wasn't useful. (Seronegative tests for example are a thing, but generally "the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence", and in this case doesn't mean it's a psychological phenomenon/issue to be vaguely gestured at.) If you have a nice MRI picture with clear evidence of a specific issue or condition, I'm sure he's great. But if you're wading through the uncertainty of a difficult diagnostic situation and seeking help, I would not recommend him. Purely because this is the kind of doctor who's going to chalk it up to an umbrella term and see you out with zero reflection or help.
