When we arrived, I was juggling a bunch of stuff and heard someone yelling from a house-like structure that we needed to pay. It was a little awkward since payment isn't collected near the entrance, but she apologized for shouting and explained they try to catch guests right away. Totally understood--and I had every intention to pay once I set our things down! The kids had a blast in the water and loved the volleyball net. We weren't thrilled about the ducks everywhere, but other families seemed to enjoy them. The snack shack had lunch options and snacks at reasonable prices. Just a heads-up: it's cash only for both admission and food. All in all, a great day outdoors with plenty of space and friendly vibes!

This beach is decidedly sleepier than Ocean City, Sea Isle, and many non-LBI beaches, and most of its charm is from its inherent "coziness." The lifeguards were very kind and vigilant, making sure that the no-swimming zones were properly demarcated and that we could enjoy the offings of the beach. Free street parking and some mini golf and ice cream nearby. What more can I say? :)

My sister lives in the area and suggested this as a nice beach walk. You have to drive through…read moremarshland (great birdwatching here if that's your thing), park in a tiny lot, and walk another 15 minutes down an old road to get to the beach. But you'll be rewarded with said birds (bald eagles, herons, and more), horseshoe crabs, and other wildlife. You'll likely have the place to yourself; we only saw two other wildlife photographers, in the parking lot, in the hours we spent here. There are the remains of a beachwall and a house that was removed about 20 years ago, I'm told. There used to be several houses on this beach--apparently those families are still upset about being displaced. You can see the old fireplace and see how the water is trying to reclaim their foundation. Some creative types have made sculptures out of driftwood and beach debris. But mostly it's just uninterrupted shoreline and nature that you can enjoy in solitude. Tip: the most convenient public restroom is back in Dorchester at the Wawa. I recommend a stop there before your visit to this beach.

To access this beach, you must drive to a public parking lot (free), and walk a gravel road through marsh for 0.7mi until you reach the beach. There is a lookout platform built adjacent to the parking lot, with didactic panels giving info on the wildlife. Once you reach the beach, it is very natural, and has some brick and stone fill material dumped there, to prevent erosion. There is also what looks like the ruins of an old building, but no signage to indicate exactly what it was. The beach is a decent size for spending time in the sun and sand, but it's very isolated so if any jellyfish sting or other emergency were to occur, you're a 0.7mi walk (or bike ride) to your car, and then several miles from that to get medical attention. No lifeguards anywhere nearby! So IMO, this beach is best explored in the off-season dressed warmly, with sneakers or hiking boots. Vineland is about a 30min drive from this beach. There are many preserves and hiking trails nearby, along with the Maurice River Township biking trails.

Gandy's Beach is a cute little strip of road along the shoreline in Cumberland County, NJ. But…read moredespite the name, there is no beach here. A minute away on Money Island, there is a small bit of beach, but Gandy's only has some parking spaces, and a seawall where day trippers come to sit and fish. The singular road that connects this little community, is lined with homes at least a story up on pilings. It's a fun place to visit to see how folks live here, and catch glimpses of the DE shore across the bay, or see a beautiful sunset. But you can walk the entire road in 15min, so this is not a major destination, unless you're there to fish. Money Island is a minute away, so it's worth checking that out too, but again, you can walk the place in a half hour tops. This area is remote, through a lot of marsh to access it, no stores or gas stations for miles. So be prepared.

A nice place for a little alone time. Don't bother going down the side streets looking for parking. That is all private property. There's parking on the street as you're pulling up to the beach. Maybe 7-9 spots I believe. If you go May-June you will see horseshoe crabs. There's a sign to show you how to turn them over so they don't die on the land if they're upside down. Was mostly chill until sunset of course, people gathered to watch the sunset. Restaurant right on the beach, 2 gift shops, a mini cold course, the WWIl lookout tower as well. Plenty of parking. It's definitely worth adding to your Cape May itinerary.

The birds were dive-bombing me on the path . I get to the beach area I'm surrounded by bugs all sizes . The smell was atrocious. Like poop and strong smell of urine . Like horse urine. The water was a putrid brown color dark . I came home and showered right away might be some chiggers on that path . It was like a live sewer show . Grotesque. Go find out for yourself.

If you do not own an SUV, it is not drivable. However, the views from this beach, and the beach itself are extremely pretty. Moore's Beach was a surprisingly long stretch of sandy coastline. Many of these northern bay beaches tend to be largely manmade, or at least man-restored, and are not the megabeaches known to the more popular south NJ destinations. Fishing and sunsets are what the Delaware Bay is known for, and the sunset at Moore's Beach was exquisite! Looking out at the view, I remembered that just across the bay, in Rehoboth Beach, DE, lies the vacation home of our President-Elect, Joe Biden! Moore's Beach is a really cool Cumberland County treasure! I know that restorative measures are being taken for all these more isolated bay beaches, and I commend them. I am sure this is on their list of improvement to-dos, but there was some litter present, which was disappointing. No trash cans or anything present. A blown-out tire, and a tarp were stuck on the beach. They most likely washed ashore. So beware of this if visiting with children or pets. Also, I added a photo of what appeared to be electrical cables poking out of the sand. This was frightening! Definitely do not let your dog off leash to roam, and do not let young kids run wild here. Hopefully someday this will be fixed and the beach can be as wonderful as its potential! There are multiple preserves and hiking trails near this beach, and bustling Millville is about 30min away. With the vast acreage of nearby marsh, I would expect the bugs to be fierce in warm months. Summer "crowds" (relatively speaking), may be a factor too. The best time to visit, IMO, is the off-season!

The plus is, it's completely nature's beauty there, with a nice wide stretch of beach and a remote relaxing feel. The minus is, the road to this place is the WORST road I've ever driven in my life. As of Nov 2020, the unpaved portion of Cooks Beach road (like 60-70% of its total length) is full of holes, dips, standing water, and various other lumps and bumps. I recommend parking at the end of the paved area and walking the remainder of about 1/4 mile. I did drive it in a non-SUV but at 10mph, with white knuckles, and hella stress. Come here to relax, but bring an SUV or some sneaks to hike. Once you get to the beach it is crazy pretty, and most of the year, you will be one of very few people there. Like all of the small Middle Township bay beaches, this feels very remote and private. As with its neighbor beaches, you need to drive out through a stretch of marsh to get to it. There are homes on solid ground at the mouth of the road (by 47), but none once the road becomes unpaved. The stretch in between is marshland. Marsh makes for great wildlife but also many bugs, so prep for that in warm months.
