You drive through a bunch of marshland to get to Fortescue, which is both a small town and a public beach. Several restaurants are in town, in addition to other local businesses. They even have a post office! There is ample paved parking (FREE) along the breakwater wall between the sand of the beach and the road. The strip of beach is a decent length, not like those at the large traditional Jersey Shore beaches, but walkable, clean, and free of nature debris, so you can set your gear up there for a day at the beach. Beach fishing happens there all year; anywhere along the bay is super popular with fishermen. No rough surf like is present on the Atlantic side of the NJ peninsula, and unlike the Atlantic side, you can see the sunset over the water here. There are multiple preserves and hiking trails around this town, and bustling Millville is just over 20min away. At the time of this review, it appears there is at least one commercial lodging option to stay in town (in addition to private rentals). Roads are paved and flat, so this is a fun place to ride bikes as well. I have not visited in summer, but with the vast acreage of nearby marsh, I would expect the bugs to be fierce in warm months. Summer crowds may be a factor too. The best time to visit, IMO, is the off-season!

Went fishing with my father, brother and girlfriend and had a great time. The only downside was getting up at 4:30 AM to get to the boat before it left port. From when we got there the captain and mates were incredibly helpful. Whether it was helping with fish, bait or just stopping by to make sure everything is going well. The fishing was pretty good too. We sat next to a really nice old man that was really the comic relief of the boat. You could tell that he had lived quite an interesting life. And besides, he was at the age where he just didn't give a crap. Really made the trip more fun. Would definitely use this boat again.

I've only been fishing one other time (from the side of a stocked pond), but I was going to win that bounty. Captain Joe Sr. even confirmed it before we left to fish in the Delaware Bay. Well, I ended up with a 14" flounder and threw it back because it was out of flounder season and you need to catch those suckers when they are larger than 18" or something ridiculous like that. Needless to say, I didn't even have anything to compete with. Other than that, I just enjoyed watching the bf catch 3 good ones (which were amazingly delicious for dinner), his brother catch one that looked like it had wings (Super Mario Bros. was closer to reality than I ever realized), people watching the other fishermen on the boat, and the awesome crew that moved the boat when we weren't catching stuff, ran over to help get the big fish on the boat and fileted a beautiful piece.

The Maurice River may be too fast for kayaking. I never found out. I paddled inside the impoundments. Decent experience. You get a great view of an osprey's nest, and they let you know that you are not wanted. Some of the lagoon or whatever it is, is shallow and gross. People are fishing and crabbing in this water and some are grumpy when you get near their traps. Lots of dragonflies when I went in July but par for the course. Not sure I would go back.

We caught bushels of crabs through the years here. The best thing about Beaver Dam Boat rentals is that you can make a lot of good memories crabbing with your family. The staff here was top notch. After another…read morenearby charter fishing boat informed me they wouldn't have a boat available on our date (yes, after taking the reservation 6 weeks prior- boy, was glad I called to confirm a week in advance!), Anglers took our reservation that was $10 more but 2 more hours on the water perfect! We were fortunate with the eatger, but our day on the eater was great. Captain worked hard to put the boat over fish, and our scouts caught fish...well, at least 1 each, mostly kingfish and sea trout. Plus an unfortunate skate. The mates were patient, helpful, funny- perfect fot the kids. Couldn't have asked for a better experience! Coat was $70 plus $5 rod rental + $.50 per fish to fillet afterwards on the dock. Plus, a 20% tip is posted as typlical gratuity on the boat. Would definitely come back to Anglers. Highly recommend.

They are floating. So you do not have to worry about climbing a ladder to get into or out of your vessel. Highly recommend this marina to all fishermen in the upper bay.
