Sausage, egg, and cheese on Kaiser roll.

Higbees is a small, cute diner next to the marina. It's clean and the staff are friendly. Great spot to stop in for a quick breakfast! Ordered a sausage, egg, and cheese on a kaiser roll with a small coffee. The sandwich was made fresh. It was huge and tasty - all for $5! The lunch menu also looked affordable. I'll definitely stop in for the crab sandwich next time I'm in town.

A lovely greeting on entrance. My wife and I used to work at an iconic eatery in phila called Taylor's country store and both of us looked at each other and said we get the same vibes. The decorations were just what you'd hope for in an eclectic little restaurant. Located on the edge of the villas maybe 15 mins from wildwood and cape May if you're visiting down the beach or shore don't sleep on this place. Now for the food we were looking for lunch we have our go to spots but wanted to change it up and I'm so glad my wife chose TBD. Has a great menu with something for everyone. I got a hot roast beef because it's one of my favorites. Side of fries hand cut. First the sandwich was everything I had hoped for I go a couple Roast beef sand places but this has shot to the top. Gravy on the side is how it came and it was just what the sand was meant for ciabatta roll soaked it up perfectly, no prob I'm not a fan of the disintegrating gravy sand I like to control the gravy. Roast beef was thick but not out of control thick, didn't need sharks teeth to bite through it. And not any gristle which definitely mattersHorseradish on the side a little bite not your make your nose run hot but hot enough. Hand cut fries delicious crispy hot and a perfect pairing to dip in the gravy. The pickle was exactly how you want a deli pickle to be crunchy fresh and sharp flavored w real dill I will say it again perfect . My wife had the burger it was huge tasty I know because I had half the right amount of everything. She chose the fresh homemade chips they were marvelous too I know because I grudgingly gave up a few fries to have some chips. It was big enough she said she would be skipping dinner. Anyway it's the kind of place you leave saying I can't wait to go back and try the other choices because you know they will all be made with culinary care and taste great. Don't step nod or miss this place. Being on weight watchers I know I'm gonna regret finding it, but you shouldn't it's on rt 47 the sign w the two black dogs sorry no pics of the food but I was hungry and scarfed it down before thinking

He could have been a little more attentive, drinks ran out without refill. Not bad ... just not particularly fast or thorough. The roast beef sandwich is good. Plenty of beef. Great bread! Tasty au jus. The fries are handmade. My wife really liked them - I would have preferred a little crispier. So, if you like homemade fries, you'll love them. Prices are very fair. Which is good, because they don't take credit cards so you'll have to use their ATM if you forget cash. It's a good spot and worth a try.

We were a little confused when we saw it was a golf club but it's open to the public. The food is awesome. We got a few appetizers. Truffle fries. Battered zucchini flowers which I had never had before. Those were so good. If you get a side salad with a sandwich instead of fries it's still a large helping. Most times when you sub out you get a weak salad. My friend got the sugar bacon burger which he said was awesome. That's kinda what I wanted but then I panic picked the blackened tuna sandwich. Which was delicious so I'm not upset. Wife got a taco salad that came in a large corn chip bowl. Tons of chicken on it. Very large portions. Got there around 4 and had the place to ourselves just about for a while. Very friendly staff.

The highlights (and lowlights): The service was awful: We arrived at 5:17 and were seated at 5:22. Drinks took 26 minutes to deliver and the order was wrong. My FiL clearly asked for a Pinot Grigio, but a Sangria was delivered. Cody, the server*, politely repeated that he ordered the Sangria, but that did not happen (my FiL drinks only dry wines). We waited to toast my in-laws anniversary, but had to wait another 7-8 minutes for the correct glass of wine to be delivered. There is no attention to detail in the dining room. The staff are on island time. The first appetizer arrived at 6:08--46 minutes after we sat down! At 6:20, I bussed our table. (After dinner, I bussed our table a second time). Even trying to pay the check Cody was MIA. He came by the table perhaps six times from 5:22-6:45. *There seems to be a lot of summer hires here--folks that want to hang out at the beach, but need to work to pay the rent. The training has be to incredibly minimal. I would guess no family meal, no 5-minute daily wine pairing rundown...basically no front of the house training. When the customer has to stack dirty plates and get a busboy's attention to grab them TWICE...not good, especially for the prices at Off the Hook. The food was quite hit or miss. The good: the crab bisque was excellent...really amazing! The scallop appetizer was also delicious with a base of grits and bacon underneath. However... The bad: we wanted to share the scallop appetizer and asked Cody how many scallops came with that. He said "three". The app was delivered with TWO scallops (Yes...TWO scallops for $19). They were not huge scallops...so 16/20 count. Wholesale, $18 a pound, less than a dollar each. To charge $19 for an appetizer with TWO scallops? Wow! The dish cost perhaps $3.25. A bottle of wine that retails for $15 is $30 in a restaurant. I get it, but marking up TWO scallops with some grits to $19 is insane. I asked the manager about the missing scallop. He advised that the entree came with three scallops--the app two. The entree was $39!! $39 for three scallops! If these were U/8 or U/15 scallops, I maybe could see it, but two 16/20 scallops for $19 and three for $39 is nuts. The pappardelle (appetizer portion) was completely flavorless. It was not cooked with any salt and pepper. It tasted like buttered noodles you find on a kid's menu. Adding salt and pepper (at the table) did little to fix it. My wife's pappardelle entree was equally bland. She tried mine; I tried hers. She looked right at me and said "There is no seasoning on this!". My thought exactly. My FiL had the salmon. He reported that it was tasty. While it was cooked well, $35 for an approximately 5 oz portion is again nuts. As a local, I really wanted to enjoy this meal. It was an anniversary dinner for my in-laws. $260 for four people with bad service and hit-or-miss food and the portions described is not good. I'm not a tourist. Lastly, I cannot forget to mention the FLIES. This is an INSIDE, white tablecloth dining establishment with $30-40 entrees, NOT a beachfront bar. 3-4 houseflies, accompanied by a gnat, joined us for dinner. Crazy. Bethany Beach, Delaware has limited options for dining and cars lined up 100 deep on the main road into town. This can be the only explanation for Off the Hook being so busy, so often. Tourists from NYC and Philadelphia don't bat an eye at paying $39 for three scallops. I don't know what other explanation makes sense.

You drive through a bunch of marshland to get to Fortescue, which is both a small town and a public beach. Several restaurants are in town, in addition to other local businesses. They even have a post office! There is ample paved parking (FREE) along the breakwater wall between the sand of the beach and the road. The strip of beach is a decent length, not like those at the large traditional Jersey Shore beaches, but walkable, clean, and free of nature debris, so you can set your gear up there for a day at the beach. Beach fishing happens there all year; anywhere along the bay is super popular with fishermen. No rough surf like is present on the Atlantic side of the NJ peninsula, and unlike the Atlantic side, you can see the sunset over the water here. There are multiple preserves and hiking trails around this town, and bustling Millville is just over 20min away. At the time of this review, it appears there is at least one commercial lodging option to stay in town (in addition to private rentals). Roads are paved and flat, so this is a fun place to ride bikes as well. I have not visited in summer, but with the vast acreage of nearby marsh, I would expect the bugs to be fierce in warm months. Summer crowds may be a factor too. The best time to visit, IMO, is the off-season!
